without Russia, :ITA and :HUN totally dominated the field (5 gold medals each, 5 teams each one on the podium), giving very few satisfaction to the other Countries.

among them, :UKR and :ROU were the only other Nations capable of taking a Gold medal home.

however, a good number of Countries (12) have won at least a medal...a whole world apart if compared to the very small number of top tier Nations in many other sports...

Maybe it's  time to come back to higher level in fencing in senior competition. It's  good to know we have some nice talent, I hope we won't lost them.

Fencing is almost like ski jumping. You have an impression only like 6-7 countries are good at it but those who are seem unbeatable. At least we don't have the old Italy vs Hungary two-man show ;)

well, it's an updated impression...nowadays, it's true that we have 6/7 Countries above the rest of the field, but Fencing has become one of the most balanced and well spread sports in the world, with a lot of Nations from every Continent (except for Oceania, but still) capable of winning a medal at any level.

in the world cup thread we've done some kind of analysis about how many athletes from different Countries have made it to the podium at least once...and it's impressive, especially if compared with many of the most mediatically exposed disciplines (not to mention Winter sports).

p.s. the :ITA vs :HUN 2-man show was staged in the cadet division just a couple of days ago...
