Apparently there is a plan that only meets with a WA-label will be elligible for international rankings and qualification for international tournaments. US college meets would be excluded by this. Dutch hurdles talent Matthew Sophia is an example that could possibly miss EC Indoor and EC U23 qualification as a result.

Anyone else heard about this in international news?

I saw some discussion about this else where and it seems as long as NCAA refuses to have WADA anti-doping at their meets or bring their rules in line with World Athletics including enforcing the shoe regulations they won't get the WA label for their meets.

I asked about this on a British athletics forum.  It’s to do with the clampdown on fake meets & records. Seemingly there is no ban, but there has been poor communication & many of the smaller, early season NCAA meets haven’t been through the bureaucracy necessary to get formal recognition.  So it should all get sorted out as the season goes on.

I hope that with Gismondi will be different, especially since she was already a great talent in her junior years. The problem in Italy is that for the past 15 years, aside from Pellegrino, there has been a miss of stability in other athletes: there are some booms of excellent form, but later they disappear. I also worry that funding for cross-country skiing will be cut after the Cortina Olympics.
