There was nearly a three way tie in the girls 100m hurdles. All three medalists finished with a time of 13.22, but Zajac :POL (3rd) was 0.003 seconds behind Montauban :FRA and Wild :CRO.

Slovakia is really feeling that Slovenia. Travel there might even be considered a good idea :p

Absolutely amazing day for sure for us. We rarely win 2 medals in a day, so 3 is just a science-fiction

Thanks. Very promising generation on the women's side for GB and Germany. Romania also has a lot of good talents and Italy is doing a good job on the men's side + Jackl of course has to be mentioned. We might see some of them at the olympics next year already. Especially Blocksidge and Jackl aren't far away.

The time isn't terrible for her age, the two girls ahead of her are both 1 year older. She would be 38th in the american all-time rankings for 13/14 year olds. She has until next year to improve on that ranking. For comparison some of the other girls on that list:

2:18.57 Kate Douglass

2:18.42 Summer McIntosh

2:18.21 Kathleen Baker

2:18.20 Sydney Pickrem

2:17.75 Nathalie Coughlin

2:17.64 Maya DiRado

2:17.48 Claire Weinstein

2:17.21 Elizabeth Beisel

2:17.19 Ariana Kukors

2:16.96 Bella Sims

2:16.28 Regan Smith

I think her problem is that slovakian coaches don't know how to produce world-class swimmers and by the time that she will be old enough to go to college, it will probably already be too late for her (since she wasted multiple years of development). For her the best would probably to go to Hungary or even GB. Those two nations know how to produce world class swimmers in the IM. Sadly that doesn't seem like a very realistic option for her, unless her parents are rich ...

Very impressive week by Kevric in women's artistic gymnastics. She won 4 out of 6 possible golds and it very well could have been 6 out of 6. The women's team missed gold by only 0.8 points and in the vault final she only missed gold by 0.016 points. Difficult to say where she is at compared to the best talents in her age group, but she for sure is one of the best talents Germany has produced in a long time.

Does anyone (from Italy) know why Italy competed with a completely new women's team here? They had a completely different team at junior worlds earlier this year. Did they want to give their "reserve" a chance to compete at the international level?

Pretty unlucky results for Germany in the tennis tournament. McDonald getting injured cost him a (gold) medal chance in the individual and the double. On the women's side the german athletes were unlucky to run into athletes from the Czech Republic in both the individual and the double competition in the quarterfinal already.

Good battle between :POL and :ISR for gold in women’s skateboarding (street). :POL comes out on top in the end.

Overall, the level of the competition was good, but nothing too crazy. Europe still has some work to do to catch up to North America, Latin America, and East Asia.

Got :ATA whacked, though.

Interesting result in women's volleyball. Slovenia vs. Germany in the final, seems rather unexpected. Not sure what happened to Italy, Serbia, Poland and Turkey.

    • I read now that Valentina Rodini will be in the new team of Tizzano + Galtarossa and Martini. I was probably in such an information bubble on Instagram that I thought that only Abbagnale was running a campaign and had a team of people around him. That's why I was surprised by his defeat + the fact that, for example, Rodini supports his rival. But as I wrote, for me the change in the general coach position is a plus. We need a new opening and a new impulse: Cattaneo had his best results in Tokyo and then he only explained that his rowers were running away abroad to the USA to study and that's why he had worse results. Ok, except that it's the same in Romania and Greece but they results are comparable or better. It's obvious that no one here will make the UK or the Netherlands, because we don't have such resources and money but I think we can repeat the Romanian results (2 gold - 3 silver in Paris) and that will be a much better result than the 2 silver in this year.
    • Abbagnale boasted that he had 80 per cent a few days before the vote (I still have the screen) and ran again as a result of a power deal. Not a great loss.   I have doubts about the new technical director though, you can't announce him during the congress, brandishing the scalp of the Abbagnale era technical staff (who then, were Crispi's men). Let's hope there are no rifts between the new staff and the athletes, it had to be handled better.
    • I was surprised by Abbagnale's defeat. I thought he was a sure of victory, since he decided to run - I read some source that he didn't know if he would start before Paris 2024. What do you think about it?

    • Cattaneo was good but his peak was in Tokyo 2021. Then there was such stabilization - stagnation. In Paris the result was in line with expectations but without the wow effect. They threw everything that was best into the quadruple sculls and it was enough for a only silver. Now without the lightweight sculls in LA I think that radical changes are needed to remain competitive. Previously there was a 3-year Olympic cycle due to Covid, so big changes weren`t good but now I think the time is right. Although of course more funds are needed for this sport in Italy, because even the best coach will not overcome this vel our men`s alpine skiing sector
