You guys need to bombard the Mexican federation with messages on Facebook, Twitter, e-mails... This more than a simple misunderstanding: this is negligence. I've contacted the Mexican federation a number of times, and also PAGU (whose president is also from Mexico) and I've had a terrible experience. They have very bad PR and no transparency whatsoever. When I asked PAGU on Facebook to act more professional, they blocked my account. LOL. Such amateurs.

No Elsa Garcia, as she injured herself again. I'd just wish she realized it's time for her to let others have their time.

Hope the reserve gymnast is Esparza.

I believe that in special cases (injury is one of them) nations can name another gymnast. Can anybody confirm this? It would be awesome to see Moreno competing, though.

  • 2 weeks later...

Brazil finally announced their women's team: Jade Barbosa, Flávia Saraiva, Thais Fidelis, Lorrane Santos and Carolyne Pedro. This is probably the team that will go to the Word Championships, so it will be interesting to see how they score here. They are in a very comfortable position for a bronze medal in the team event, but honestly I can't see they challenging for anything better than 3rd place.

There's not much hope for individual medals, though. Our best chance is with Flavia Saraiva in the all-around competition. No one will perform two vaults, so no chance for a final. On the uneven bars, chances for a medal are very slim. Beam could be anyone's game, but I think the Americans and Canadians are one step ahead. Floor is where I expect Brazil to contend for a medal, maybe even gold if Flávia Saraiva has an exceptional day. Jade Barbosa and Thais Fidelis could also grab a spot in the final and maybe even a bronze medal.

On paper, this team is competent and they should have no problems qualifying for the 2020 Olympics later this year, but it's always important to check how things are going before the World Championships, so the Pan Ams can be a good opportunity for them to test their routines.

I'm surprised. Hurd, McCustker and Wong are part of the A team. It never crossed my mind they would actually choose them for the Pan Ams!

Finnegan is very young. This is probably her first major international event, so let's see what she does. Eaker is a very risky choice, either hit or miss. Beam finals will be exciting if she qualifies.

I take back what I've written about the Canadians being able to beat this team. They won't. Team finals will be very predictable with the USA earning gold, Canada with silver and Brazil with the bronze medal. The only thing that matters now is how much Canada and Brazil can score. It will be a nice test before the World Championships.

And while these awesome gymnasts are representing the :USA, Simone Biles has up her difficulty and is preparing for worlds as well.

She's unbelievable. Her newest skill on floor is a triple twisting double back somersault. Needless to say, no woman has ever attempted this before and even among men this is a very rare and very difficult skill. It's like Biles is not even human. She's 20 or 30 years ahead of what we expect from women's gymnastics. No one can even compare.

I assume you’ve seen her new beam dismount. I’m not a artistic Gymnastics expert, but it’s like to back handstands into like a double twisting double back or something.

It's a full twisting double back. The most difficult skill on beam, but she's not the originator of the element, though. She's been training a double double since 2013, though.

What I really wanted to see from her is a triple twisting yurchenko vault. Hong Un Jong attempted one at the 2016 Olympics but she fell short and lost the chance of earning a medal. Bummer. Biles should be able do it for someday..

    • I still remember how Demi Moore swept the Razzies for Striptease almost 30 years ago and she won Golden Globes now? The acting industry must be short on talent, scripts or everything else   This being said I don't really watch too many new TV shows these days least of all those Marvel/DC action hero stuff that has taken over in the last decade plus. I know it's a box office gold mine but completely not my taste.
    • Yeah, Anora has been really hard for me to place in my personal rankings. It's a fun and enjoyable film for the most part, but it didn't quite generate the same awe or excitement from me that a few others have this season. Still, I was quite shocked to see Madison lose yesterday because she did a deliver a phenomenal performance in my opinion.    The best actress "race" still feels rather open to me, which adds a bit of suspense to each body's nominations.
    • Anyone remember that  athlete in a European Champs who was given a false start, then protested and got a re-run?  And then false-started twice.   Was kind of like that.
    • Justin Trudeau has resigned as party leader and will resign as prime minister of Canada once the Liberal Party choses a new leader. Once a new leader in selected there will likely be elections shortly after.
    • I'm not surprised. Colturi seems to be trending in the right direction (duh) and the rest of the Italian women's team is nowhere except veterans Brignone and Goggia. The Delagos have regressed badly for whatever reason and even Bassino has kinda stalled despite still being in her prime. The shit will soon hit the fan but it's probably to late before the next OG. It would be ridiculous if Albania wins more medals in alpine skiing than Italy
    • The regular season is over. Tennesse Titans get #1 overall pick for the 2025 draft after NE Patriots beat the Buffalo Bills back-ups on the last day.   Mike Evans (Buccaneers) ended his 11th season with 11th mark of 1,000 receiving yards which ties Jerry Rice's all-time record. Bucs needed to run one more play to get him 5 yards he needed instead of kneeling down a game they had won already.   Wild Card Schedule:   My picks: Chargers, Ravens, Bills, Eagles, Commanders, Vikings

    • Few observations from the Globes.   Nikki Glaser had a nice opening monologue, but everything afterwards was bad. Plus i don't know what the make-up people did to her face, but i thought i was watching a wax figure.. But she changed 10 dresses showing us more of her cleavage, so that was a plus i guess.    This was probably not only the worst Globes, but probably one of the worst major award ceremonies in structure and writing... Everything was so awful... - None of the presenter skits worked and many were just cringe; - The weird camera angles, that widened around the presenters completely showed the audience not giving any fucks about what they were saying and some hiding their facepalms even. I was specifically watching in the background, since in these award shows we only get the camera in the presenters face against the screen, so this was new, but i was astonished how little the people were paying attention.    - Not showing barely any clips, or even images from the movies / series (sadly this has become a modern tradition to "save time") - The idiotic showing of the nominees. Not only without images from their performances, but them in a small picture on the side, while the screen was a damn Google Map with an arrow on their placement. Like WHO CARES where they sit in the room, show the person on the full screen... Morons.   About the winners:   - Like pretty much all winners on the movie side, with the exception of Emilia Perez, which i don't like at all and don't think it deserves awards.. - Especially happy for The Brutalist and Fernanda Torres;   - Anora was being hyped so much. Watched it, absolutely hated the first half, picked up greatly in the second, but in the end an above average film 7/10 for me. Not getting anything yesterday was a bit surprising if you'd followed the race, but not saying i'm sorry for it. Madison did a great performance, but her stocks are falling for an Oscars win and she will probably settle for only the Nom.   - Ariana Grande does a nice job in fooling people, that she is a good singer (which she is not) and now that she is a good actress (which she is not). Someone is getting screwed if she gets an Oscars Nom..   - Pissed that they didn't have the DeMille and Burnett awards on the main show, because of "time", but we now have the nonsense Box Office and Stand-Up comedy awards.. Everyone would have preferred a tribute to Davis and Ted Danson with a recap of their careers, rather than 30 minutes of useless stuff.   On the TV side it was pretty much as expected. Stoked for Colin Farrell's win.
