I decided to check out the athletes by their home province/territory.

Sadly no one from Newfoundland & Labrador, Prince Edward Island or any of the territories are competing.

Ontario - 171

British Columbia - 94

Quebec - 58

Alberta - 28

Nova Scotia - 8

Manitoba - 5

Saskatchewan - 3

New Brunswick - 1

Additionally two athletes (Eli Schenkal, fencing and Janine Beckie, football) are listed as other, both have hometowns in the United States.

Overall, BC has the highest amount of athletes relative to its population, even far surpassing Quebec in the overall count despite having about 50% more people.

Does anyone has a good idea on the form Maude Charron (weightlifting)? According to ESPN5 (the Philipino version of ESPN) she has the best PB of anyone entered in her weight class by 2KG. Is this a gold medal chance we are all sleeping on?

She's absolutely a gold medal possibility. In April she won the Pan American Championship by 6kg against the Colombian athlete who is the top ranked athlete in this weightclass.

Alright, that really snuck up on me (I don't follow weightlifting). I was aware she was a medal possibility due to her qualification ranking but I didn't realize she had a decent shot at gold. Frankly I never expected Canada to ever win gold again in that sport.

To be fair I only looked into it recently because I realized the same thing. I never expected this either!

She has entered the competition at 238 kg. The Colombian submitted 240 kg. She will ned to be on her best.

    • The last time this happened - all three athletes on the podium had zero podiums before - was Les Saisies sprint in December 1990: Uschi Disl, Elena Melnikova (future Sergei Tchepikov's wife) & Kerstin Moring. The latter two never finished on the World Cup podium again. This was also the race where Disl became the second youngest World Cup winner ever (currently down to third because of Neuner).
    • In general almost all Fisi sports have been doing terribly this season. One debacle after another and the Colturi case completes the scale of embarrassment. Apart from single star like Goggia, Brignone or Pellegrino, only the alpine snowboard looks good.
    • Unfortunately the Italian men's team is poorly prepared for the season. Everyone is in terrible shooting form. Somewhere a mistake was made in the preparations. We are recording a big regression compared to the previous season. It`s becoming more and more likely that we will not stand on the podium even once this season (I can't remember the last time something like that happened). In the Nations Cup we are in 6th place and we may lose 6 starting places in the World Cup from next season. I`m increasingly worried about what will happen in the Olympic season. Without Vittozzi returning to top form, we completly will not count.    In general our entire winter season looks very bad: biathlon as above, cross-country skiing - still only Pellegrino, luge - poor form, alpine skiing without Goggia and Brignone doesn`t exist.

    • A few updates from the IFA after last month's Board of Directors meeting.   Looks like there will be no host quota for  China at the 2025 World Games. This is surprising after the IFA went to Chengdu last year to put on a clinic. No doubt that given a year  China has the resources and athletes to field a team that would be competitive in the placement matches.    Namibia will replace  China on the women's side. While  will replace  on the men's side.     Namibia finished 8th at the last Women's World Championships, while  New Zealand finished 11th at the 2023 Men's World Championship.
