Men's Baseball CEB European Championship 2019

Recommended Posts

it's been a painful night...but luckily it's over...with the right winner! :cheer:

Alberto Mineo wins it for Italy with a 2-run walkoff HR in the bottom of the 9th...7-5 the final score...

congrats to Germany...they played a very good game and gave Italy a big, big scare...

the semis :NED NED vs :ESP ESP and :ITA ITA vs :ISR ISR are scheduled for tomorrow at 3 and 7 p.m. CET...we'll see later tonight who's going to play at what time...

It looks like Italy won in the end. I should definitely avoid watching baseball: the only inning I watched, Germany scored 5 points

Wow! Exciting matches this evening. Would have been a problem when :ESP and :ITA both lost their matches. One of them should miss the Olympic qualifier.

But fortunately both are through to the semis. Watch out for :CZE , they already surprised Netherlands and will be number 5 of this tournament.

naaa..they're too inconsistent...they don't have enough pitching depth to be really dangerous in a whole championship...

however, with their top pitchers on the mound, they can make almost anybody cry on a given day...

Netherlands and Spain are still 0-0, very close match but not so nice to watch. At last 3 inning to play :cheer:

finally, a defensive mistake by Spain helped the Netherlands to score the lone run in the bottom of the 8th...

therefore, :NED NED are the first team qualified to the final...

meanwhile :GBR GBR won 5-1 against :CRO CRO and send them to the 2nd Division next time round...

in the 5th-8th place playoffs, instead, :CZE CZE won a match against :BEL BEL that was a lot closer than expected (5-4 the final score) and :GER GER destroyed :FRA FRA 14-4 in only 8 innings, which means that tomorrow :CZE CZE and :GER GER will play (11 a.m. CET) for the last place in the Olympic Qualification Tournament...

least but not last, the second semi is well underway...and ISR just scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning (a grand slam by Rosenbaum included) to turn things around after a good start by Italy...

now we are in the top of the 6th with Italy at bat and a score of 5-4 in favour of :ISR Israel...:wall:

Colabello hits it out of the park...:cheer:

unfortunately it's only a solo HR...

however, now it's 6-5 Israel...we're at the top of the 8th (1 out)...

    • Yep, if they can take advantage of those cracks maybe, but it's too big of a maybe in my opinion. Our pitching has relied on Caissie, Toro, and Lopez the entire tournament, and I don't see that being enough to match the US's firepower.   Canadians are used to disappointment, there's almost always things that go wrong, and there actually being a chance to qualify for the...
    • That was realistic though, this isn't.   The women were heavy favourites, we did better than expected. The men were favourites with their roster of course, but they dominated that final just unfortunate to be going up against prime Hellebuyck who was a brick wall and of course there were a few questionable calls that were crucial in the end.
    • It's unlikely, but possible. USA pitching is not that great imo. Canada will probably have to score 6+ runs to have a chance, but it's definitely possible.
