Women's 3m Springboard

Qualified Nations:

  • :NED Netherlands - Uschi Freitag
  • :NED Netherlands - Inge Jansen

Someone else (non-Dutch) is likely to get Jansen's quota, unless she gets 305+ points in 2 of her remaining 3 competitions..

Sasaki's quota(women 10m) will be rejected.

The national qualification system demands that divers finish in the top 16 in world cup.

How come Sasaki's quota may be denied? She just finished within the top 18 at the FINA Diving World Cup. What's the rule for a Japanese diver to attain eligibility for the Olympic selection?

Japan Swimming Federation has its original Olympic qualification rule:

  • A diver  winning quota in the world championships or Asian cup can go in Rio

  • A diver winning quota in the world cup will be sent to Rio by the national swimming federation only when he or she finishes in the top 16 at the world cup

So this should mean that Itahashi's potential quota in women's springboard will not be selected too.

Chances for our qualification there are even bigger now. :)

Just to clarify, World Cup or World Champs? Both Itahashi and Sasaki finished within the top 16 at the FINA Diving World Cup. I'm so confused.

From the previous Games, both Sho Sakai and Ken Terauchi denied their places for London 2012, though they had finished within the top 16 at the FINA World Cup.

    • I'll jump on the off-topic with an unpopular opinion - ice hockey isn't so stamina demanding to justify 25 people rosters. And it doesn't have big playing fields like football or rugby for example, where you'd require so many reserves. 15 field players + 3 goalies should be good. Or 18+3 at max. But 25 is too much imo and the constant substitutes are too much as well.
