2:04.00 for Summer McIntosh in the women’s 200m butterfly at the TYR Pro Swim Series stop in Westmont.

8th fastest time in history, and yet still looked visibly disappointed with the result.

Not to bury the lead but MSH I think has 4 silver medals here and I saw Cole Pratt picked up a medal in the 200m back.

Just watched it, finally. 4th fastest time in history, she owns the top 2 already. And she made it look like she was out for a walk in the park.

Apparently she has said she will do the 800m at the WC this summer. No doubt she's great in that, but I wonder how she'd fair in the 200m backstroke. Her times are elite. Beyond elite. Idk what the schedule looks like, and obviously she and her coaches know best. But I would think a 200m backstroke would be less strain on an already busy programme.

Edit: Listening to the NBC broadcast, they say Summer has announced she is leaving her current training spot after this season, possibly joining Bob Bowman (coach of Phelps and Marchand, along with Reagan Smith).

  • 4 weeks later...

Yesterday, MSH clocked a 1:56.46 200 free time at the Canadian Open.

That's 0.3 seconds faster than she was at the meet last year so hopefully a sign of good things to come this summer.

At the pro swim series, Kylie Masse broke her Canadian record in the 50m backstroke going 27.13 in prelims. We'll see if she can better that in the final tonight

At the end of the day, she didn't go quite as fast as prelims finishing the 3rd in the final in 27.53.

Summer raced the 400m freestyle and finished in a time of 3:58.28 which was actually faster than her time from Paris. She was on world record pace at 300m but died in the last 50m. Meanwhile, Ledecky seems to have regained her 2016 form winning the race in 3:56.81.

Some other good news is that Penny seems to be rounding back in form. She placed 5th in the 100 free final finishing in 53.89.

Meanwhile, a day to forget for Kharun. Was over 2 minutes in the 200 fly prelims and failed to make the final.

1 second ahead at the 300 and 0.47 at the 350. Died pretty badly

23.09 for Illya Kharun in the men’s 50m butterfly, ties the Canadian record. Seems as if yesterday was an off day for him, either that or he was sick.

He has the record outright.

He might just be better at sprinting now. Herbie Behm, the new ASU coach, is mostly known for coaching sprinters.

Meanwhile, Summer clocked 2:06.82 in the 200m backstroke placing 2nd to Regan Smith.
