Does Ted Ligety have a dentist appointment or something tomorrow, hence the late start time?

When you are ranked number 488 in slalom and have 31.02 FIS points, you get a high starting number.

He basically has no FIS points or WC SL points hence the low number.

I can’t see him after this season, he’s not even competitive in his GS, so I guess he’ll just quit.

Roberto Nani, although “only” 30 years old has completely lost his GS start number and with low bibs at EC, his results there are not even cutting it close to what you’d expect from a GS specialist. I don’t think Italian federation will even put him in the A-team or maybe even B-team if his results don’t drastically improve. They have enough younger skiers doing well in EC to let Nani go care-free.

Ryding flops at the course set by his own coach.

Just putting it out there since such things are mentioned here only when someone does well on his "own" course. :p

Bib 70 for Razzoli. Olympic champion has reached the rock bottom.

Iirc he was somewhere similar a few years after his Olympic victory, got back into the top 15 or even top 7 around 2015 and now has dropped down the starting order again. This just happens so often in slalom. I remember everyone thinking Mario Matt was finished after he finished outside the top 30 in the 2010 slalom ranking it and being nowhere at the beginning of the 2011 season. He finished that season with two wins and a 2nd place and went on to win a world championship medal and Olympic gold in the following years

Occasionally, slalom races turn to be like this one. Snow, plus few other factors and race is painfull to watch. With 6 seconds(well, almost) skier could qualify for 2nd round. Even Kamerlander or Birkner could qualify with that time.

    • I really hope Nordic Combined doesn't get scrapped. Actually, I believe the Winter Olympics should keep growing with new sports and disciplines (3x3 Hockey, Ice Cross, Speed Skiing, Ice Climbing), otherwise they won't feel like a true celebration of sports like their summer counterpart.
    • In fact, well, no. Hockey is extremely physically demanding, I even think it is the most physically demanding winter sport of all. I mean keeping more than a minute on ice is just cardiac. The shifts are there for a reason.   25 players rosters are absolutely justified. You must have 4 lines to keep the stamina the whole game.   Hard to persuade people who never watched hockey though, I can understand your point, but sadly, the point is wrong
    • Stats are ok, but the time she losts on the range every time... My point was that she is more likely to make us losing the olympic relay than to make us winning it.
    • I'll jump on the off-topic with an unpopular opinion - ice hockey isn't so stamina demanding to justify 25 people rosters. And it doesn't have big playing fields like football or rugby for example, where you'd require so many reserves. 15 field players + 3 goalies should be good. Or 18+3 at max. But 25 is too much imo and the constant substitutes are too much as well.
    • But her shooting surely never was horrendous, or even bad for her standards.
