whaaaatttt? but why should we get such a national TV??????? :facepalm::wall::wall::wall:

just to let everybody know...they stopped live broadcasting from Fencing WC to air a senseless sports news show filled with "old" stuff (because yesterday's events are already old stuff)...:yikes::facepalm::wall:

 

well, at least today Eurosport is still live with fencing...

Yes, it's a serpentine system purely based on the world ranking*. I checked the ranking before this Championships...Rahbari was just ahead of  Deary so he would have taken his place in the draw.

and also the table draws for the women's epee and the men's sabre team events are out...

 

Italy will have to face GER in the round of 16 and possibly CHN in the quarterfinals in the women's team epee, meanwhile we're gonna have a big clash against RUS in the quarters of the men's team sabre...

 

so, I guess we won't see any of those 2 Italian teams among the medallists...

I was walking to the subway watching the match on my phone with my umbrella still wet from the morning rain in the other hand. I was almost imitating all of the moves, luckily there was no one in the street so I didn’t kill anybody :d great result for Alice!

I’m not sure of this, in general the Italian teams behave better than individuals, at least as far as I can remember for the last years. It is sure, however, that the male teams should wake up, and that technicians have to open the spots to younger athletes.

great win for Volpi (perfectly directed by Giovanna Trillini on the bench)...

I have to admit that I didn't expect her to reach this level of fencing, after watching her for years in the junior ranks first and then in the early seasons of her senior career...

I'm very happy I made such a mistake...she might not be the brightest talent in the world, but she's the perfect example that the Italian Foil school is the best in the world and can build a champion in any moment...

 

no comment on the (expected) shameful outing of our male epee specialists...it's so sad watching a group of guys that just a couple of years ago was second only to France and now they just can't get beyod the second round of the direct elimination draw...:cry::facepalm::wall:

now I think it's time to change everything in this class of our fencing, before it's too late and they get to watch Tokyo 2020 on TV...

As a german fencing fan you can never expect too little these days ... men's sabre used to be an almost guaranteed medal, Schmidt also completely out of shape and Ebert completely without a chance against one of the italian athletes. I think this time more german athletes will qualify for the olympics (women's foil team and men's sabre team mostly), but at this point the chance for ONE MEDAL is probably below 50 %.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

      will have 5 representatives in Luge at the 2026 Olympics.      Jozef Ninis (Top pic) in the M Singles will compete at his 6th consecutive WOG !!! He debuted in Torino 2006 to close the circle in another Italian resort in 2026, by this he set the new Slovak Winter Olympic record of participation and tie the all time one with Erik Vlček competing at 6 games in Sprint Canoeing as well.   The remaining quartet (Pic 2) will debut at the Olympics, all still Juniors Christián Bosman & Bruno Mick in the M Doubles and still schoolgirls Viktória Praxová & Desana Špitzová in the olympic premiere of the W Doubles     Must also be said, that we were quite unlucky in this qualifiers periode, Marián Skupek missed the second M Singles quota by 1 point and ended first non-qualified athlete and the experienced doubles Vaverčák/Zmij which was in clear qualifying position ended the season after Vaverčák injured his knee in the training before the Sigulda race 2 weeks ago   Also for the first time no W Singles participation for us meaning also obviously no participation in the Mixed Relay competition for the first time as well   Team (Updated as of 12th January 2026) 40 Athletes (30 M + 10 W)

      Hypothetically she could meet the minimum standards still with a high placement in the NAC event tomorrow. Seems unlikely to me, but still possible.

      Yea she did not meet the minimum points. Since the event doesn't have enough qualifiers, its possible the FIS still grants her a quota
