Canada obviously took a hit in the gold medal column thanks to not sending its strongest team, but also suffering here are Cuba, Colombia and Venezuela. On the flip side Brazil, Mexico and Argentina are performing better, but Mexico is getting an extra boost due to the new events added to the program where they have currently won five gold medals from their current total of 17.

Four actually: women's poomsae, pair poomsae, men's relay (modern pentathlon) and men's 1m springboard.

The other thirteen events were on the 2015 Games program.

Lol, surfing is even less audience friendly than sailing.

But is youth appealing according to Gold Medalist 1976, fencing, Thomas Bach

Indeed, if the commentator doesn't know the rules and how scoring is given, audience at home will barely know what's happening, unless one of the surfers is on World League and the other is from Bhutan.

Correct, for whatever reason it registered in my head that you won gold in women's 1m springboard.

I counted on day 1 of the competition, and I’m not joking here. There were 12, 12 people in the seating area. There was more support staff and volunteers then fans.
