Do you think is there any chance they will forfait their medley or freestyle quota?

:GBR British Qualification Tracker (after Day 5) :GBR

Priority 1: 1st place finishers with nomination time (guaranteed selection) (13 swimmers)

  • Freya Colbert - W 200m Freestyle, W 4x200m Freestyle Relay, W 400m Individual Medley, W 200m Individual Medley
  • Kathleen Dawson - W 100m Backstroke
  • Keanna MacInnes - W 200m Butterfly, W 4x100m Medley Relay
  • Anna Hopkin - W 50m Freestyle
  • Ollie Morgan - M 100m Backstroke
  • Adam Peaty - M 100m Breaststroke
  • Daniel Jervis - M 1500m Freestyle
  • Max Litchfield - M 400m Individual Medley
  • Matt Richards - M 100m Freestyle, M 4x100m Freestyle Relay, M 50m Freestyle
  • Honey Osrin - W 200m Backstroke
  • Duncan Scott - M 100m Freestyle, M 4x100m Freestyle Relay, M 200m Individual Medley
  • Ben Proud - M 50m Freestyle
  • Abbie Wood - W 200m Freestyle , W 4x200m Freestyle Relay, W 200m Individual Medley

Priority 2: Relay swimmers (guaranteed selection) (5 swimmers)

  • Medi Harris - W 4x200m Freestyle Relay
  • Lucy Hope - W 4x200m Freestyle Relay
  • Tom Dean - M 4x100m Freestyle Relay, M 200m Individual Medley
  • Alexander Cohoon - M 4x100m Freestyle Relay
  • Joe Litchfield - M 4x100m Medley Relay

Priority 5: 2nd place finishers with nomination time (3 swimmers)

  • Jonny Marshall - M 100m Backstroke
  • Laura Stephens - W 200m Butterfly
  • Katie Shanahan - W 400m Individual Medley, W 200m Backstroke

Candidates for Priority 4 - Discretionary Picks

  • Freya Anderson - W 100m Freestyle, W 200m Freestyle (injured)
  • Kieran Bird - M 400m Freestyle (OQT)
  • Amelie Blocksidge - W 1500m Freestyle (OCT)
  • Lauren Cox - W 100m Backstroke (NT at World Championships)
  • Kara Hanlon - W 200m Breaststroke (OCT)
  • James Wilby - M 100m Breaststroke (OQT)
  • Jacob Whittle - M 4x200m Freestyle

In addition to those athletes Tobias Robinson, who has already qualified in open water, will compete in the men’s 800m/1500m freestyle events despite not having matched the BST as it won’t impact the 30 swimmer cap.

Only James Guy booked a ticket tonight, so we have 19 guaranteed athletes.
Luke Greenbank is also now on priority 5 with his 200m Backstroke. Let's say those 4 will be included and we would have a team of 23 (except Tobias Robinson).

They could easily say "we're done" but it would be a bit odd I guess. I still believe they will take both relays, or at least ask them to do a tryout.  If they decide to take 30, those are my bet for the 7 extra, kind-of-on-order

I think there are 4 safer bets because either they won their races, or they would form relays

  • Kieran Bird - M 400m Freestyle (OQT), not only he has an OQT and won the event, he could be a relay option, with his 6th on 4x200m Freestyle
  • Angharad Evans W 100m Breaststroke (OQT), not only she won but she could form the 4x100m medley
  • Eva Okaro - W 4x100m Freestyle (2nd- relay not qualified)
  • Freya Anderson - W 4x100m Freestyle (3rd- relay not qualified) she could easily compete at  W 100m Freestyle, W 200m Freestyle and she was injured

Then I guess they could take these 3 to be options for relays, and 2 of them are big names

  • James Wilby - M 100m Breaststroke (he could even participate in the individual with his OQT and would be a back-up for 4x100m medley)
  • Jacob Whittle - M 4x100m 5th Swimmer?
  • Jack McMillan - M 400m Freestyle (OQT), and he also would be a great option to swim in the heats for  4x200m Freestyle

I doubt it.

Currently, the 4 swimmers with the best 200m freestyle times are Djakovic, Mityukov, Liess and Ponti. They would need 1 relay quota there.

Medley relay would be something like Mityukov -> Desplanches -> Ponti-> Liess or Bollin -> Desplanches -> Ponti -> Mityukov. Desplanches currently has an OCT so I don't think he needs a relay quota.

So they should be fine. They did reject one quota in Tokyo but it was a women's quota. They accepted all the men's quotas.

They will take some discretionary picks but not enough to fill all 30 I suspect.

    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
