from Tomorrow through Sunday, Grand Slam in :TJK Dushanbe, second last GS tournament before the final showdown (the World Champs) before the end of the qualification period

among the most interesting facts, it's one of the rare appearances of the great :FRA Teddy Riner in this final stint of his career...it should be a red carpet for him at least until the semis (where he should face :FIN Puumalainen), if not to the final (Home hero Temur Rakhimov the most credited guy to make it through to the gold medal match on the top half of the draw)

  • 3 weeks later...

I may totally missing the mark here, but I guess these countries have qualified to Paris, if IJF does not create new Grand Prix/Slam or give Grand Prix points to the next Opens. We will have 5 weeks of Open, so I am taking a mathematical approach that one athlete could go to all Opens and win titles to check if they could get into one of the 17 direct quotas. But for now, this can only happen in the 73kg.

Only direct quotas here, no CQ, and the opens will be fundamental into some of the quotas + some of the seeds.

And obviously my math can be very wrong, so take it with a grain of salt (the order is not necessarily right)

W 48kg
:AZE:CHI:CHN:FRA:ISR*:ITA:JPN:KAZ:MGL:POR:RUS:SLO:KOR:ESP:SWE*:SRB:TUR:USA

:UZBKurbonova is out with 2652pt, but getting a Continental Quota, from Aminova (57kg), with 2474pt.
:GERMenz out with 2642pt, hoping Cavelius (81kg) take a direct quota, so she would get a continental (or Trippel, 90kg, with 2260pt for now)

* new entries.
:ISR without continental quota for now (see below, 73kg)
:SWE continental quota going to Ida Eriksson (70kg) for now, but could go to Marcus Nyman (90kg)

M 60kg

:AZE:BEL:BRA:EGY:FRA:GEO:ISR:KAZ:JPN:MGL:NED:RUS:KOR:ESP:TPE:TUR:UKR:UZB

Nothing has changed here.

W 52kg

:BRA:CHN:FRA:GER:HUN:ISR:ITA:JPN:KOS:MAR:MGL:KOR:ESP:SUI:UAE:GBR:USA*:UZB

:CROAna Viktorija Puljiz out with 2490pt, she could still get the continental quota from Croatia (now with Zlatko Zumric, 2517pt)

*new entries
Angelica Delgado after reaching R16 goes to 2621. Continental quota for now with John Jayne (90kg, 2124pt)

Obviously it's not enough to point out that all these calculations goes with the idea that all Opens that will happen will give 100pt for the winners. We never know what the IJF can decide to do...

M 66kg

:AZE:BRA:FIN*:FRA:GEO:ISR:ITA:JPN:KAZ:MDA:MGL:RUS:KOR:ESP:TJK:UKR:UAE:UZB

:MARBoushita out, and gets the continental quota for now with 2456pt, in the place of Achraf Moutii (83kg, 1984pt)

*new entries

:FINLuukas Saha with the bronze medal breaks through the direct quota spot.

W 57kg

:BRA:CAN:CHN:FRA:GEO:GER:ISR:ITA:JPN:KOS:MGL:RUS:SLO:SRB:KOR:TPE:TKM:UKR

No changes here.

M 73kg

:ALG:AZE:BRA:CAN:FRA:GEO:ITA:JPN:KAZ:KOS:MDA:RUS:ESP:SUI:TJK:USA:UZB

18th quota still not decided:

:ISRTohar Butbul remains with 2812

:MGLTsend-Ochiryn Tsogtbaatar remains with 2782. As he has 3 blank results, he may pass Butbul.

If Tsogtbaatar gets the points, Gntulga Altanbagana (90kg, 1941pt) probably would get the continental quota from Mongolia and Butbul would get a continental quota as well.

How is reallocation working so far?

All continents have enough countries and wil take full quotas, except Oceania.

This is the current situation:

:AUSAustralia:AUS 1st male quota

2 secure direct quotas (Katherina Haecker, 63kg), Aoife Coughlan 70kg

M 60kg: Joshua KATZ 1500pt (not sure why he was not at the Worlds)
W 52kg: Tinka EASTON 1415pt (she has 10pts to discard, so if the wins an Open will go to 1505)

Both are slotted for Tahiti Open. Therefore Katz needs only to win one fight (or hope Easton will not win it). They could still obviously compete in others.

:NZLNew Zealand:NZL 1st female quota

2 athletes could still win direct quots:

W 78kg Moira de Villiers, wth 1832. She is injured but should go to Tahiti Open, where she could go to 1926 and potentially get the last quota (depends on what happens at the Worlds)

W +78kg Sydnee Andews, for now with the last direct quota with 2300pt

81kg Maarten de Ridder with 309pt may still be dreaming with the continental quota, but he is not on the Worlds and does not appear to be registrated in any Open.

:FIJFiji:FIJ 2nd male quota

M 100kg Tevita Takayawa with 246pt appears to have the quota on his hands. Gerard Takayawa (+100kg, 92pt) and Shanice Takayawa (70kg, 64) need 2 strong performances in Opens.

:GUMGuam:GUM 2nd female quota

Maria Escano (57kg, 239pt).

:SAMSamoa:SAM 3rd male quota

Either William Tai Tin (73kg, 136pt) or Pniamina Percival  (81kg, 106pt), they are not in any tournament so far.

:VANVanuatu:VAN 4th male quota

Hugo Cumbo (81kg, 57pt)

:KIRKiribati:KIR 5th male quota or 3rd female quota

Both Nera Tiebwa (57kg) and Tebania Mwemwenikeaki (60kg) have 10pt and will play Tahiti Open. If they remain drawn and both eligible, "the IJF Executive Committee will make the decision."

:ASAAmerican Samoa :COKCook Islands, :MHLMarshall Islands, :NRUNauru :PLWPalau :PNGPapua New Guinea :TGATonga have no athletes in the rankings so far.

So far we have 2 female quotas and a third "to be decided".

So far I BELIEVE this is the ranking for the reallocation (it envolved many scenarios, with direct quota, continental quota, team invitaiton, etc, so this is far from certain). Tahiti Open (and others) may change things a bit...

Female

1- :BRANatasha Ferreira (48kg) 2694pt  -she could still get a continental quota depending on 63kg/70kg

2- :GERKatharna Menz (48kg) 2642pt - she could still get a continental quota depending o 81kg/90kg. And she still can add 80pt if she wins an Open, passing Ferreira.

3- :CROAna Viktorija PULJIZ (52kg) 2490pt - could still get a continental quota depending on 100kg)

4- :UZBShukurjon Aminova (57kg) 2474pt

4- :PORTaís Pina (70kg) 2341 still competing or Telma Monteiro (58kg, 2306, but could still add 80pt at an Open)

male (less sure, but)

:GERIgor Wandtke 2702pt, 73kg) - so far, with a Team Invitation quota

:CUBMagdiel Estrada 2265pt (could still get a CQ quota, depending on 63kg)

:DOMMedickson DEL ORBE CORTORREAL (81kg, 2174) or Robert Florentino (90kg, 2274) - both still competing

:SWEMarcus Nyman (90kg, 2198 - now fighting for the CQ with Ida Erikson, 70kg, 2202)

:TURMuhammed Demirel (2177pt, 52kg)

:SLOEnej MArinic (+100kg, 2153pt)

W 63kg

:AUS:AUT:CAN:CRO:CZE:FRA:HUN:ISR:JPN:KOS:MEX:NED:POL:POR:SLO:KOR:GBR

18th direct quota to be decideed between

:CUBMaylin del Toro Carvajal goes to 3036 with the R16.

:ALGAmina Belkadi goes to 3012 and still has a 10 & 20 to replace. She is slotted to take part in Abidjan Open and would need a 5th place (with a victory) to go to 3038.

M 81kg

:AUT:AZE:BEL:BRA:CAN:FRA:GEO:ISR:ITA:JPN:KAZ:NED:RUS*:KOR:TJK:TUR:UAE:UZB

*new entry

Timur Arbuzov jumped through the rankings with his silver medal. His CQ for AIN:AIN will go to Dali Liluashvili from 63kg (239pt)

:HUNUNGVARI ATTILA is out of a directo quota, in 19th with 3186 points. He will probably get CQ from VEG Zsombor (100kg, 2607pt). Unless he get it back tomorrow (through direct quota or even reallocation), Hungary will only have 4 direct athletes and lose its right to earn a Team Invitation

Just noting that :GERTimo Cavelius gets the continental quota for Germany and he becomes the first male gay judoka qualified for OG (:grouphug: in the lack of a rainbow flag hahaha)

W 70kg

:AUT:AUS:BEL*:CRO:FRA:GER:GRE:HUN:ITA:JPN:NED:PUR:RUS:SLO:ESP:GBR:UZB:VEN

*new entry

:BELGabriella Willems goes to 2614 with the 5th place

and :ISRMaya Goshen out with 2472. As Shira Rishony got a 48kg direct quota, Goshen has the continental quota so far if Butbul remains with the direct quota in the 73kg (see above). If he loses, the continental quota is his and Goshen will go to the reallocation lot (see below)

M 90kg

:AZE:BRA:BUL:CUB:FRA:GEO:GRE:HUN:ITA:JPN:KGZ:NED:RUS:ESP:SRB:TJK:TUR:UZB

several contenders were close by but nothing changed here

W 78kg

:BRA:CUB:FRA:GER:GUI:ISR:ITA:JPN:MGL:NED:POL:POR:SLO:KOR:UKR:GBR:UZB

18th quota momentarily with

:KOSLoriana Kuka 1873pt
but can be obtained by

:NZLMoira de Villiers 1832pt (she is injured and missed the worlds and still has a 10 + 6 + 6 in her points. She is supposed to go to Tahiti Open and a bronze medal will do - will take her to 1876)

:ECUVanessa Chala 1656pt, but has 2 blank spaces on her ranking and one 70, so she can go to 1886 - if she wins 3 Opens around the world in 5 weeks lol

Both cases are curious:

Moira de Villiers has a continental quota so far, but has to hope Sydnee Andrews keeps her direct quota tomorrow (2300pt) in a fierce competition.

If Moira eventually wins a quota and Sydnee remains with her direct quota, the continental quota will go to Maarten de Ridder (81kg, 309pt) and may shake some things in the Oceania quota (see above) and reallocation quota (see below)

Ecuador is a curious case because they have 4 strong athletes fighting for one continental quota and who have not travelled enough. Besides Chala we have

70kg Celinda Corozo with 1264pt with 160 + 36 + 20 + 0 + 0  (!)

66kg Lenin Preciado with 1123 but with 50 + 36 + 20 + 0 + 0 (!)

+100kg Freddy Figueroa with 1041 but with 100 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 (he is not in Abu Dhabi).

Have no idea why they have not travelled more, even in regional Opens... they could have easily 2 or 3 quotas.

And this is how we stand with the reallocation rankings

Female

1- :BRANatasha Ferreira (48kg) 2694pt

2- :GERKatharna Menz (48kg) 2642pt - She still can add 80pt if she wins an Open, passing Ferreira.

3- :CROAna Viktorija PULJIZ (52kg) 2490pt - could still get a continental quota depending on 100kg)
*4- :ISRMaya Goshen out with 2472 - she can still ad 80pt if she wins an Open, passing Puljiz (if Butbul gets the continental quota in 73kg instead of Goshen)

4- :UZBShukurjon Aminova (57kg) 2474pt

4- :PORTaís Pina (70kg) 2341 still competing or Telma Monteiro (58kg, 2306, but could still add 80pt at an Open)

male (less sure, but)

:GERIgor Wandtke 2702pt, 73kg) - so far, with a Team Invitation quota - I think reallocation happens first if a male quota is available
:HUNVEG Zsombor (100kg, 2607pt, still competing)

:CUBMagdiel Estrada 2265pt (could still get a CQ quota, depending on 63kg)- he has defected, but will keep him for now.

:SWEMarcus Nyman (90kg, 2208 - he still has a 10 and 20 to replace on the rankings)

:SLOEnej MArinic (+100kg, 2153pt, still competing)

I believe we have for now :CAN:GEO:GER:HUN:KAZ:POR remain eligible for the Team - I though Hungary had lost it, but they can still have a team with 52kg, 63kg and 70kg with women and 81, 90 and remains with the TI for 73)

Frascadore isn’t entered in any events right? So by my reckoning, for Canada it’ll be between Kelly Deguchi (women’s 52kg) and Louis Krieber Gagnon (men’s 90kg) for one of the continental quotas?

Not sure if the points for Goshen (ISR) are right. I think she only gained 20 points here, and loses 10 which means she is at 2472, of course she could gain another 80, but that still has to be done.
goshen at least so far is not registered for any open tournaments.

Tais should be at 2469 after 2nd round at WCH, but she can’t improve anymore.

    • Such a nice one for Colturi ! That was fun. It almost looked like a script with the cameras focusing on Colturi a couple of times before her first run and showcasing the potential of youngster and she didn't disappoint.      I hope Colturi skis for Albania forever. So much fun to cheer her with the Albanian flag.    I don't get it why everyone is being so critical of Colturi, you got no right to criticize a personal decision, as most European nations use imported athletes in many sports like wrestling and cheer them on like their.   Would you spend hours criticizing Frank Chamizo for switching to Italy rather than playing for Cuba?

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
