Hockey in the Desert

History has been made...

Yesterday the KHL played the first professional league game ever in the United Arab Emirates...:yikes:

Reigning champions Avangard Omsk did face AK Bars Kazan at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai in front of a 5000+ enthusiastic fans (among them, the Swedish legendary goalie "King" Henrik Lundqvist)...

More on this historical game...

:LAT - :SVK  2-6  Highlights.  Not great quality, since Swiss TV did not cover the match, only via youtube stream, our TV was SOOOO Angry !  but at least the goals are there...

yeah, the problem is that first Russia "B" and then Norway (Russia's substitute) pulled out of the tournament at the last minute because of covid protocol, so the whole schedule had to be changed...:dunno:

afternoon games have been cancelled and now Switzerland play Latvia later tonight and Slovakia tomorrow night (both games at 7.45 p.m. CET)...

at least, tomorrow's game will be covered by the Swiss TV, so you'll be able to watch that game with better picture quality...

p.s. I'm still furious because JOJ Sport forced to close CT Sport down for skylink's Slovak cards (and my subscription is a Slovak one)... :hairpull: :nopompom: :redcard:

and the new Slovak :ŠPORT is no consolation for what I'm going to miss so much...

Yeah, like half of the country here

For me no problems so far, my cable company (Digi TV Slovakia) refused to add Joj šport and thus can still keep ČT Sport on their program, which is fantastic :d

Hopefully RTVS: Šport will be fine, but obviously as a public TV will have hard work to do to resist to the competition of commercial TVs and their budgets

I know the reason, obviously. As we followed the whole situation whole last week, at one time it was pretty sure the whole tourney will be cancelled. Our team refused to travel to play only 1 match so the organizers decided to make a 3 teams round robin but SVK and LAT had to play the same day as they arrived to Switzerland but without spectators since they did not have prepare any tickets for this match  and without TV covering, which is still difficult to understand in 2021 !

    • I think that It's a similar situation with Braahten in Norway but there are some differences:     - he's an adult, - his mother is Brazilian, - Norway has a lot of talent in technical events (although of course it's always better to have 1 more than 1 less).
    • Looks like the gate malfunctioned and Eriksen Sundal was literally pushed by the ad board
    • Well, we lived through Caroline Wozniacki representing Denmark and there was some talk if she could switch to Poland early on but she said no since she lived her entire life in Denmark anyway. But she was very popular here. On the other side Angelique Kerber who also has Polish ancestry actually lived in Poland on her grandfather's estate (which was a tennis academy). In the last few years except Eugenia Bujak (cycling) switching to Slovenia due to a conflict with the federation we don't really have such cases. I can understand many Italians have their opinion on Colturi & her mother alas it's boosted by the lack of other top end prospects in your skiing now (and some other winter sports). I'm surprised Italian journalists haven't figured out what's behind Colturi's switch already because it has to be money or "personal differences" either way.
    • Or is Girardelli respected in Austria these days...
    • We must ask our Austrian users if they cheered for Girardelii. But do we have any Austrian users LOL?
    • It's just that Austria had a lot of skiers in that time and we don't have any others among the young ones now.
    • Marco Girardelli went to Luxembourg one day and he had a great career. I doubt he did regret that move.
    • DAY 3 events   14. SPEED SKATING - W 1000m   1. Miho Takagi JPN 2. Brittany Bowe USA 3. Jutta Leerdam NED   15. SNOWBOARD - W Big Air   1. Kokomo Nagase JPN 2. Anna Gasser AUT 3. • You know, but we still don't know what that was about. Ceccarelli has a difficult character but still changing colors to a country with which you have absolute no connetions? What would you say if Iga Swiatek fell out with the Polish tennis federation and started playing for Luxembourg or Andorra? Certainly not everyone would decide to take such a step, even if they had to give in a little in talks with the federation.    Another thing is that the Italian training system simply doesn`t work. As you can see, there are talents but we don`t know how to train them. Since the golden generation born in 1990-1995 (Brignone, Bassino, Goggia) we haven`t trained anyone who would stand on the podium in giant slalom or slalom in World Cup. So something is wrong. At the beginning of the 21st century we had a large group of good athletes in giant slalom (maybe not at Brignone's level): Karbon, Moelgg, Putzer, Gius, etc., who were able to win World Cups, win World Championship medals, etc. Now we have no one. In women's giant slalom for example: if Brignone and Bassino are gone, even getting to the first 20 in World Cup will be a problem for us.
    • I remember that Lara Gut's family also had a conflict with the Swiss federation at the beginning of her career around 2008/2009 but it was resolved. I remember that the family also wanted to have a greater influence on their daughter's career. It was probably similar here. If there was a will from both sides, an agreement should have been reached. Especially since Colturi has zero ties with Albania. Sinner could have played for Austria sooner, as a person from South Tyrol.
