Hockey in the Desert

History has been made...

Yesterday the KHL played the first professional league game ever in the United Arab Emirates...:yikes:

Reigning champions Avangard Omsk did face AK Bars Kazan at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai in front of a 5000+ enthusiastic fans (among them, the Swedish legendary goalie "King" Henrik Lundqvist)...

More on this historical game...

:LAT - :SVK  2-6  Highlights.  Not great quality, since Swiss TV did not cover the match, only via youtube stream, our TV was SOOOO Angry !  but at least the goals are there...

yeah, the problem is that first Russia "B" and then Norway (Russia's substitute) pulled out of the tournament at the last minute because of covid protocol, so the whole schedule had to be changed...:dunno:

afternoon games have been cancelled and now Switzerland play Latvia later tonight and Slovakia tomorrow night (both games at 7.45 p.m. CET)...

at least, tomorrow's game will be covered by the Swiss TV, so you'll be able to watch that game with better picture quality...

p.s. I'm still furious because JOJ Sport forced to close CT Sport down for skylink's Slovak cards (and my subscription is a Slovak one)... :hairpull: :nopompom: :redcard:

and the new Slovak :ŠPORT is no consolation for what I'm going to miss so much...

Yeah, like half of the country here

For me no problems so far, my cable company (Digi TV Slovakia) refused to add Joj šport and thus can still keep ČT Sport on their program, which is fantastic :d

Hopefully RTVS: Šport will be fine, but obviously as a public TV will have hard work to do to resist to the competition of commercial TVs and their budgets

I know the reason, obviously. As we followed the whole situation whole last week, at one time it was pretty sure the whole tourney will be cancelled. Our team refused to travel to play only 1 match so the organizers decided to make a 3 teams round robin but SVK and LAT had to play the same day as they arrived to Switzerland but without spectators since they did not have prepare any tickets for this match  and without TV covering, which is still difficult to understand in 2021 !

    • Out of curiosity, I listened to a few podcasts about Turkmenistan today. This country has very large deposits of natural gas. In the 1990s, a simple a ordinary people lived quite well there. In the early 21st century, Turkmenistan signed several unfavorable gas deals with China and has practically gone bankrupt since then. 1/3 of the population (about 2 million out of 6 million- mostly young people) emigrated, mainly to Turkey, India, etc. The future of this country is blacka and uncertain. I don't know what other options they have? Russia, Turkey, the EU? Of course, in terms of selling gas. Perhaps sanctions of Russia's and isolation due to the war in Ukraine would be a chance for Turkmenistan to establish economic relations with the EU, but the new president would probably have to loosen and a little liberate up his country's domestic politics.
    • A friend of mine who visited 97 countries of the world be in Turkmenistan (with Kunshamara, are the onlyones i know) and he tell me something that never see in another country: his presence was enough to make nervous to all the people, in restaurants, markets, etc, the presence of an "outsider" generate that.
