Think they want to keep it as exclusive for the Four Hills.  I suppose they want each of the “special” events lto have their own individual identity - so for Raw Air it is that Every Jump Counts etc.  Otherwise it would just be the same thing 27 times.

Maybe Evel Kneivel-style jumping over Monster Trucks for the Las Vegas World Cup?  Just trying to come up with ideas here!  :coffee:

But don't we have the same thing 27 times in the current way. :d I'm suggesting to make it at least 17-10.

I'm all in, in having more variety in the starts. Why don't make a full knockout start with a tennis bracket? The qualifications are mostly useless, so why not use them to make a top 32 bracket in some events and have a knockout competition over 2 days. Have 4 such weekends in a season, one in each month and have a small globe for the jumper with the most points from the 4 competitions.

The knockout system is much more interesting, than the normal one. I don't know why, they still don't use it in more events. At least in the so-called "mini tours" or the Raw Air. And the normal system can be used for the individual WC starts, which are not affiliated with a bigger classification.

Kobayashi is a real mystery for me. In the beginning of the season i thought he just had a string of good jumps and his form will disappear in a few rounds like every prior japanese jumper. But the guy just keeps winning. And the 4-Hills, once the hardest event to win, he just breezed through.

Or maybe, this is the weakest ski-jumping season i have watched. When i look at the final 4-Hills and the overall World Cup standings, it's like there are no stars anymore. As if the big names from the last 4-5 years have all disappeared and the mediocre jumpers are now picking up the pieces..

I was waiting for the moment when the pressure will squash Tande and it came. What a horrendous jump and as i expected, his caliber is not for a 4-Hills winner (at least not yet). The return of Kamil Stoch   Awesome to see that the fall he had in Innsbruck didn't faze him.

The austrians finding their best form just in time for the 4-Hills, what a surprise. :d Nevertheless, i'm sticking with my prediction with a Stoch victory. :) Tande is capable of big jumps, but he is not that consistent, a problem way to familiar for the norwegians. A big blow for the germans, only one in the top 10, looks like another wasted edition for them. Finally this was maybe the smoothest Obersdorf competition i have seen, and i've followed ski-jumping for 10 years now, really refreshing. :)

Ski Jumping 2016 - 2017 Discussion Thread
Posted (edited)

New season, but old problems for Zografski with the equipment. First the company that makes his jump suits send a different one to Ruka, so he had to use his old one from last season. Then at the official measerment, in contrast to popular belief, at 23 he has shrunk 1 cm in height from last year. And because those measerments are made right before the first start, there was no chance to get new skis, so his father had to cut the ones he had to the required lenght. :dunno: Needless to say it was a disaster.

I'll do my best to help out with that, because numbers say more than feelings :p

And don't get me wrong, I'm definitely a fan of the smaller teams usually.

Now that I'm talking to you about smaller teams anyway: how's Zografski doing? He used to be someone who might have a good break through in the World Cup, but he's nearly invisible lately..

Yeah, i'm afraid Vladi Zografski is going to be just a flash. His smaller body just prevents him from having a fast runaway and then the winds just bounce him around. Plus his morale has been bellow minimum after the failed couple of seasons. Even having Pointner around for some coaching tips didn't improve much of his technique. I hope to see him rejuvinated for next season and at least get some points here and there. That should be the max that is expected from him.
