  1. SLOVAK ROAD TO TOKYO 2020 - SLOVENSKÁ CESTA DO TOKIA 2020 UPDATED POST 7th and 8th Qualified Athletes SAMUEL BALÁŽ / ADAM BOTEK - CANOEING SPRINT (K2-1000m M) Baláž s Botekom s olympijskou istotou Striebrom na ME spečatená účasť oboch v tejto disciplíne aj v Tokiu Slovenský dvojkajak v zložení Samuel Baláž, Adam Botek získal na ME v Poznani striebornú medailu v K2 na olympijskej 1000 m trati. Vo finále finišoval druhý so stratou 1,774 s na nemecký tandem Max Hoff, Jacob Schopf. Pre Baláža s Botekom je to druhý cenný kov v Poznani, v sobotu boli členmi strieborného štvorkajaku na 500 m. Slováci štartujúci v tretej dráhe mali skvelý štart a od úvodných metrov sa usadili na čele. V závere neodolali mohutnému finišu favorizovanej nemeckej posádky, no nechali za sebou lode Litvy, Ruska i Maďarska a potvrdili výbornú formu pred OH 2020 v Tokiu. Boli to posledné preteky pred olympiádou v Tokiu a určite nás to motivovalo. Utvrdili sme sa v tom, že sme v špičke v K2 aj v K4. V príprave urobíme maximum pre to, aby sme v Tokiu dosiahli čo najlepší výsledok," uviedol pre TASR "háčik" slovenskej kádvojky Samuel Baláž. Radosť z medailového umiestnenia neskrýval ani jeho "parťák" z lode. "Chceli sme ísť našu klasiku. Počas trate som to veľmi nevnímal, no videl som, že sme vpredu. Snažili sme vyhrať, napokon sme skončili druhí, čo je veľmi dobré. Úspešné výsledky v K2 nám pomáhajú aj v K4, motivuje nás to a navodí dobrú atmosféru v celom tíme. Budeme sa teraz snažiť tvrdo trénovať a v Tokiu získať medailu," zdôraznil Botek. Jazdu dvojkajaku vyzdvihol aj Filip Petrla, športový riaditeľ sekcie hladkých vôd Slovenskej kanoistiky. "Chalani podali nadštandardný výkon, išli vynikajúco a bojovali o najvyššie méty. Nemci boli dnes lepší, no striebro v má obrovskú cenu. Aj v kontexte toho, že ich priorita je K4. Dokázali sa skvele pripraviť na finále K2 na kilometri, čo je veľký prísľub smerom k olympiáde. Dnes sa definitívne spečatilo, že túto disciplínu obsadíme aj v Tokiu. Samo s Adamom sú maximalisti, v každých pretekoch chcú vyhrať a ich myšlienky sa upierajú k zlatu, konkurencia je však silná. Musíme ich čo najlepšie pripraviť na vrchol sezóny."
  2. first 2 athletes known Samuel Baláž & Adam Botek secured their spots for Tokyo thanks their second medal (After Szeged WC Bronze and today ECH silver). Both will thus compete in K2-1000m (which start was still questionable, but today the final decision was made, we will start with this boat) and thus both will be part of the K4 crew, the remaining 3 athletes (other 2 for K4 and who will have to compete only in the single K1-1000 event) will be known by the end of the week after the coaches' meeting

  21. Time 13:50 Iiro Pakarinen opened the score. 1-0 Suomi
  22. That is quite a story It is really unbelievable how one player changed completely the outcome of this team. Canada lost to Latvia 0-2, to USA 1-5, to Germany in the first 3 matches and was basically eliminated, then arrived Andrew Mangiapane from Calgary as the last player added to the roster and since then...he scored in each match and led this team to an incredible Final tomorrow.
  23. Final Score Semifinal 1 (Riga Arena) United States - Canada : 2-4 (1-1, 0-1, 1-2) 02:02 Brandon PIRRI (Walker, Paul) 0:1 17:17 Colin BLACKWELL (Wolanin, Labanc) 1:1 24:15 Andrew MANGIAPANE (Brown) 1:2 40:46 Andrew MANGIAPANE (Brown, Kuemper) 1:3 43:36 Alexander CHMELEVSKI (Ronney, Mackey) 2:3 59:36 Justin DANFORTH (Paul) 2:4
  24. has never played the final since the introduction of the Play-offs and never finished among the top 2 since 1960 ! and no, it will not change this year too. Canada won 4-2 and the team that was basically almost eliminated is now one win from the world title
