  3. Weng wins Lillehammer mini tour 2016 Norway's Heidi Weng has won her first FIS World Cup tour event. Weng began the 3 day competition in Lillehammer, Norway with her first ever sprint win and ended it with a victory in the final day 10 km classic technique pursuit. She began the day with a 20 second lead over her teammate Ingvild Flugstad Oestberg and crossed the finish line with a 16.1 second margin of victory. Finland's Krista Parmakoski who started the day in 5th place picked off Norway's Marit Bjoergen and the USA's Jessie Diggins to move into 3rd place and overtook Oestberg in the final kilometer but a fall on the second last downhill gave second place back to Oestberg. Despite the fall, Parmakoski recorded the fastest time of the day and finished third overall for her first ever tour podium. Full Results Here

  6. Twice is nice for Stuhec in Lake Louise The conditions and circumstances were different, but Slovenian Ilka Stuhec still ruled the downhill track at Lake Louise on Saturday where she picked up her second consecutive victory in as many days. Despite utilizing a lowered start where the men's super-G traditionally begins because of fresh snow on the track and a threatening weather system forecast to move in during the race, Stuhec bested Lara Gut by 0.11 seconds and Edit Miklos by 0.42 seconds down the shortened course. Stuhec admitted that running fourth on the course and having to watch the rest of the racers come down after her was more nerve-racking than the previous day when she claimed victory from bib 29. "I think [running early] was really an advantage because right now the snowfall is getting worse and worse. But you race with the number you have and try to do your best. I had to calm myself down after yesterday and prepare myself for the race today which, apparently, I did pretty well," said Stuhec. Gut was also excited to pick up her first downhill podium finish of the season. "It's the first time I'm standing on the podium, so it's great. I'm happy and since this year I finally have the feeling that I know what I'm doing on this slope," said Gut. "It's a good improvement, and I'm looking forward to tomorrow for the super-G. I'm going to try to ski even faster and cleaner." Miklos matched her career-best World Cup result, a third-place downhill finish in St. Mortiz in January 2015. During the previous evening's bib pick, Miklos was the last to draw and was automatically assigned bib 1, but it worked out in her favor. "Also third place – I hope the next podium it will be second and then first," joked Miklos. "I think yesterday I had not so much luck like today because the weather was good for me. I think the first numbers, they had luck. In a sport like this, sometimes you have luck and sometimes the others, they have luck. ... It was my luck because they left me just this number." The shortened course didn't bother the athlete who represents Hungary one bit. "I think [lowering the start] was a good decision because of the weather. I think it's the same if it's long or short." The ladies race super-G at Lake Louise on Sunday. Full Results Here Ilka Stuhec (again )
  7. Nice to see another our talent doing very well. our draft prospect 17 years old Adam Ružička and his very nice goal in Ontario Hockey League
  8. Gasser and Tonteri triumph in Moenchengladbach big air World Cup It was the first time since more than ten years that a big air World Cup was staged in Germany with the last one dating back to January 2006 (Winterberg). Gasser, who had descended on North Rhine Westphalia with the momentum of back-to-back World Cup wins under her belt dominated the women's competition in impressive manner landing a huge cab double underflip and a super clean backside 720 double grab to earn a total of 184.00 points. The 25-year-old celebrated her third consecutive win on a scaffolding ramp in front of a stellar crowd of 10,000 people following the snowboard show in the SparkassenPark and relegated Katie Ormerod (GBR, 158.50) and reigning slopestyle world champion Miyabi Onitsuka (JPN, 146.00) to the respective second and third rank. “It couldn’t have been a better start to the season. It feels almost unreal to have taken three wins in a row. Big air is actually much better for me than slopestyle. I only have to focus on two good tricks which is better for my nerves [smiles],” the Millstaedt resident said. Gasser, the undisputed World Cup leader who seems to be unbeatable at the moment when it comes to big air competitions, is therefore looking good on the road to victory in the Super Series standings which Gasser leads with 2.000 points ahead of Ormerod (1.060) who was also more than just pleased with her today's performance when she stomped a perfect cab 900 indy and a backside 720 indy: “It went very well for me today. I am super excited to get second at such a high-level contest. It was my goal to land these two tricks and I am stoked it worked out so well.” Tonteri takes the win – and the opportunity to shave his beard In the men's event, the decision for the win was a tight battle between five riders with the best end for two-time big air world champion Roope Tonteri who earned the high score of 186.00 for his backside 1440 indy and cab 1260 indy ahead of Jonas Boesiger (SUI, 183.00) and Billy Morgan (GBR, 180.50). A result which is also most likely to end a facial hair phase of the Finnish ripper which lasted for more than one year now. “In a while I didn’t win anything. It feels really good to be on the podium. I actually made a bet with my friends and teammates a year ago that I could only shave off my beard when I make it to the podium. Finally, time has come to be able to do so,” he stated with a toothy grin. Best qualifier Moritz Thoenen (SUI, 176.00) and Lyon Farrell (USA, 174.50), the only one to land a backside 1620, landed on the respective fourth and fifth rank. Tonteri leads the Super Series rankings of the men with 1,220 points ahead of Seppe Smits (BEL, 1,200) who finished sixth today while Mark McMorris (CAN, 1600) remains the big air World Cup leader although he missed out today's event. And with the current World Cup leader absent, it was third ranked rider Billy Morgan, who had landed a backside triple cork nose and a stunning switch triple underflip double grab, to state the final words of the night: “It was amazing. When I turned up this morning, I didn’t expect these jumps would go so well. Surprise, surprise, I made it to the podium. Besides, Moenchengladbach has treated us very well. It’s been a great event and a great fan atmosphere.” The big air World Cup tour will continue in two weeks in Copper Mountain (USA) where this season's first halfpipe World Cup will also be hosted from Dec 14 – 17, 2016. 11. First win in the World Cup for Polish team Dawid Kubacki, Piotr Zyla, Kamil Stoch, Maciej Kot Kamil Stoch, Dawid Kubacki, Piotr Zyla and Maciej Kot, took the first ever win in a Ski Jumping World Cup team competition for Poland this evening in Klingenthal. Outstanding athletes of the team: Double Olympic champion Kamil Stoch and this summer's dominator Maciej Kot. The teams of Germany and Austria came in second and third. With a total score of 1128.7 points, the Polish team had a clear lead of more than 40 points over the German team (987.1 points). "Poland was extremely strong here today so we are happy about the second place", Richard Freitag ungrudgingly acknowledged the fantastic performance of the Polish athletes. Kamil Stoch summed up the competition for the enthusiastic Polish jumpers: "I feel great, this is a fantastic moment for our team. During the summer we made huge progress. Right now I just feel good, my shape is good and my jumps are consistent and on a high level. We did a good job in summer and also made some adjustments to my inrun position. Now I can really enjoy ski jumping again. Our coach made some changes, but these are our secrets." Despite the clear defeat, the German team showed a strong performance. Their best was surprisingly Markus Eisenbichler, who clearly dominated his group with jumps of 137.5 m and 136 m. Andreas Wellinger, Severin Freund and Richard Freitag had some solid jumps and the team scored a total of 1087.2 points and finished second. "For me personally it was a good competition. I was able to show my best jumps, especially the second one was really good. I was working with Poland's coach Stefan Horngacher, he is a good coach. He is doing a good job in Poland and the team has already been strong. Even if it will be difficult, my goal is to be in the Top 6 tomorrow. I hope I'll be able to achieve that", Freitag analyzed the competition. With 1086.3 points, the Austrian team of coach Heinz Kuttin missed the second place by only 0.9 points. Andreas Kofler, who is on his way back to old strength, was one of the best of his team. "I'm very happy about this result today, it has been a while since I stood on the podium. It was very close today between us and the German team, maybe luck will be on our side next time. It was a lot of fun jumping here today. My goal was to make it to the team again and I could achieve that. My main focus now is on the 4-Hills-Tournament and the World Championships in Finland." Clearly behind the Top 3, the athletes of Norway, who are still struggling in the Vogtland-Arena, came in fourth. With their total of 1024.2 points, they were already more than 60 points behind Austria. Robert Johansson, Andreas Stjernen, Johann Andre Forfang and Daniel Andre Tande were at no point able to fight for the podium today. For the team of Slovenia, for many one of the favorites in this event, one outstanding jump of youngster Domen Prevc (145 m, the longest jump of the day) was not enough. The team of head coach Goran Janus finished only fifth. The Czech Republic, Japan and Switzerland came in sixth, seventh and eighth. Full Results Here
  12. So, Another unsuccesful day for us. only Paulína Fialková on points and our only women qualified for tomorrows pursuit at least thanks her points our girls jumped into 19th place in the Nations Cup, hopefully it will be only better now and we will only climb up in this ranking now. Terezia Poliaková as usual our best shooter but this run...oh dear only the 92nd running time, and Gereková is absolutely out of shape, and most likely she will be the one who will be cut of the team and replaced by Kuzmina from next stage..but the final decision of the coach about who will be replaced, will be announced during the week. Among mens. no points today after excellent thursday came today again a disaster...only Hasilla qualified for the pursuit. Otčenáš had terrible standing shooting, but apparently caused by some problems with lens. At least guys remains at 17th place in the Nations Cup.

  15. Frenzel crowns triple German victory in Lillehammer The first Individual Gundersen event in Lillehammer ended with a triple victory for Team Germany. Superstar Eric Frenzel was back on top and stopped teammate Johannes Rydzek by 15 seconds in the end. The remaining spot on the podium was taken by Fabian Rießle. He crossed the finish line 25.8 seconds after Frenzel. Johannes Rydzek surprised with the victory in the jumping round after his new mastery of the jumping technique met with a little bit of head wind, resulting in a 104.5 metre jump, the longest jump of the day by 2.5 metres. 144 points put Rydzek in the pole position and gave him 14 seconds of head start on Japanese superstar Akito Watabe who showed 102 metres (104.4 p.) Espen Andersen stepped up to be a worthy stand-in for his sick teammate Jarl Riiber and captured the third intermediate position with 101 metres and 138.2 points, putting him 23 seconds behind Rydzek. The race shaped up to become another festival for the German team with Eric Frenzel, Fabian Rießle and Björn Kircheisen all positioning themselves very well. Frenzel ranked fourth and started into the race just one second after Andersen. Kircheisen and Rießle ranked tenth and eleventh respectively and had to make up 56 and 59 seconds on their leading teammate. At first, the cross-country part seemed to be a clear affair with Johannes Rydzek looking strong in three first laps but apparently, the World Cup leader had started his race too fast. His teammate Eric Frenzel, who had been skiing together with Japan’s Akito Watabe and Norwegian Espen Andersen for the first part, caught up with the yellow bib and passed Rydzek on the last lap. Frenzel was in an unbeatable shape and so his teammate had to concede defeat but was still satisfied with his second rank. Behind the pursuers Frenzel, Watabe and Andersen, Björn Kircheisen and Fabian Rießle came closer and closer as to be expected of the two fast skiers. Ultimately, only Rießle passed Andersen and in a finish line sprint also Akito Watabe to capture the third position. Watabe had to be satisfied with the fourth position in the end, Kircheisen stole the fifth place from local hero Andersen who still posted a career-best individual result with rank six one day after his first-ever podium result with the team yesterday. Espen Andersen’s teammates Jørgen Graabak and Mikko Kokslien also entered the Top Ten today but the German team performance was amazing with youngsters Vinzenz Geiger and Manuel Faißt also ranking in the Top Ten, taking the count of Germans to six in the best ten. 18. Jansrud's winning streak in Val d'Isère The first downhill of the season was held under amazing conditions on the „O.K.“ course in Val d’Isère. The sun was out, the snow was hard but responsive, the crowd was cheering and the athletes eager to grab that first downhill title. Norway’s Kjetil Jansrud topped the field to took his second win in two days, as Peter Fill (2nd +0.26) and Aksel Lund Svindal (3rd +0.33) rounded out the podium. The new starting order procedure resulted in an interesting start list for this downhill, with Kjetil Jansrud picking an early start number and wearing bib n°3. It looks like this strategy paid off, as the winner of yesterday’s super-g also claimed the win in the downhill today, to start the speed season in the best possible way. Italy’s Peter Fill already showed constant training results in the past days in Val d’Isère with two second place finishes and proved that he can beat the Viking’s pace in the second training run. With bib 7 for today’s race, the downhill globe winner was able to lock up a second place and his 15th World Cup podium. Despite missing out the second half of last season because of a torn ACL and coming back to training only a few weeks ago, Aksel Lund Svindal showed incredible skills and a solid shape on today’s downhill, where he finished third. Walking away with two podium placements is unexpected and extremely motivating for the attacking Viking. The speed skiers are now leaving Val d’Isère and will gather again in Val Gardena on 16th and 17th December 2016 for a super-g and a downhill. But the tech skiers are taking over the “O.K.” course in Val d’Isère to hold a giant slalom tomorrow, with first run at 10.00 CET and second run at 13.00 CET. Full Results Here Kjetil Jansrud
  19. Halfvarsson keeps on rolling in Lillehammer Sweden's Calle Halfvarsson has made it two for two in Lillehammer by winning the 10 km free technique competition on stage 2 of the three day mini tour event. It was a battle to the finish line in the interval start competition with Halfvarsson's teammate Marcus Hellner. In the end Halfvarsson completed the course in a time of 23:04.9 to win by just 0.8 seconds ahead of Hellner. Russia's Sergey Ustiugov made his return to the World Cup podium for the first time this season in third place +6.7 seconds off the lead. It was an impressive top 10 today with 7 different nations represented and 9 nations in the top 15. With his two victories Halfvarsson will begin tomorrow's 15 km classic technique pursuit competition with a 28.1 second lead over Ustiugov. Hellner will head out third, 9.8 seconds behind the Russian. Full Results Here
