  2. Michal Martikán winning his 22nd medal from World Championships and 48th medal from major events (World Championships, European Championships and Olympic Games) World Championships 22 medals (13 golds, 3 silvers, 6 bronzes) European Championships 21 medals (14 golds, 5 silvers, 2 bronzes) Olympic Games 5 medals (2 golds, 2 silvers, 1 bronze) also a unbelievable streak of winning medal from a major event every single year since 1995 c´mon, this is what I call a legend !!! + 5 times absolute winner of the World Cup, ( 42 World Cup stages podiums (there only 5 stage competed per year) - 20 wins, 10 second places and 12 third places) Alexander Slafkovský once again for the second time a world vice-champion, this guy is really unlucky, the title he is still missing, he won almost everything, still waiting for this world title and ofc the Olympic participation but this is another story... But today Beni Savšek was clearly the best, congrats Slovenia ! winning such huge race even with a hit is something extra special ! wow ! Hat off Savšek
  3. But Jess Fox Faster than the fastest mens C1 so far in Pau
  4. Jessica Fox killing the race already as first starter
  5. Few pics for Lucie and Lukáš when they realized that they are qualified
  6. They are 11 finalists in the C1 since Ander Elosegi of finished 10th tied with Haneda. still can not believe how Beňuš underperformed in the semis, I did not seen so bad run from him for a really long time...this was clearly his worst run since almost last 10 years, but I assume this is what you will get if you prolong the season unnecessarily for so long time. It´s a shame that the championships are in the end of September and even if we count the tomorrows x-cross also in october, can not remember when the season was so long than this year
  7. Yay !! The team LuLu did it ! This is just awesome ! Huge congrats Lucie and Lukáš ! I´m so happy for them, especially Lukáš who missed Sochi with Federica Testa just by few and after all problems last year and a absolute restart with new partner Lucie Myslivečková who had the same problems in her previous career, they both finally managed to reach their dreams.
  8. Ice Hockey Tournament at Sankt Moritz 1948 The Canadian team (RAFC Flyers), 1948 Olympic champions After the horrors of the war , finally came peace and the Olympic Games and ideas revived, 20 years after hosting the 2nd winter games, Sankt Moritz was selected to host also them again in 1948 only 3 years after the end of the World War 2. The Ice Hockey tournament of the 1948 Winter Olympics took place from 30th January to 10th February 1948 in Sankt Moritz, Switzerland, It was also counted as the 15th Ice Hockey World Championship and the 26th Ice Hockey European Championship as well. The tournament was attended by 9 teams which played a simple Round-Robin tournament, Everyone played one match against each opponent. However, The results of the USA, which was Disqualified, were counted only for the World Championships ranking, meaning only 8 teams were classified in the Olympic tournament. The first two team had exactly the same final amount of points, exactly the same record of 7 wins and 1 draw, so for the first time the Olympic champions were decided by total Goal average tie-break formula. The Canadians had a total Goal advantage of 69:5 and Czechoslovakia 80:18, so only by 2 goals the Canadians (represented by the Ottawa RAFC Flyers) won their 5th Olympic Gold and 21st World title, Czechoslovakia took silver medals and the European title. There was a huge problem and massive controversy before the start of the tournament, USA arrived with 2 teams !!!! They both wanted to participate at the tournament, this nearly caused the cancellation of the whole tournament. USA in fact sent two different teams. One send by the AHA (American Hockey Association) registered in the LIHG (predecessor of IIHF) and compossed only by professional players and one send by the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) sponsored by the US Olympic Committee and strictly composed by amateur players. No resolutions was reached before the Games and both teams arrived at St. Moritz ready to play. This created a tense showdown between the USOC's president, the LIHG, the Swiss organizing committee and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The IOC was responsible for the overall running of the Games. The IOC initially ruled that neither team could compete. This incensed the LIHG, led by its new president Fritz Kraatz, who refused (since this tournament was also counted as a Ice Hockey World Championships) to allow in the tournament a team which was not a member of the federation, and openly threatened to boycott the Olympics. and organizing immediately a separately different tourney in Davos, The Swiss organizing committee, fearing this eventuality, ignored the IOC's ruling and allowed the AHA team to play in the tournament and the AAU team to at least march in the opening ceremony. Eventually the parties also agreed to allow the AHA team to play but they would receive no official ranking in the Olympic tournament, and they would not be eligible to win a medal. their ranking (4.) will be counted only for the world championships. Team USA competed in the tournament with a team of professionals, but their results were counted only for the world championship ranking, their Olympic results were annulled The ice hockey tournament was held on three different stadiums, but only on natural ice. Due to an altitude of about 2,000 meters above sea level, the organizers did not expected the problems that occurred. Suddenly the snow started to fell because sudden higher temperatures. in fact the Ice hockey was not considered as the main part of the Olympics, which was manifested in several directions. The IOC showed it already before the start of the Olympics in the controversy affair around the USA teams. then during the games, in the evening sessions, Only the figure skating events was preferred to be contested on the only stadium with artificial lighting in St. Moritz. Some matches of the ice hockey tournament even have been played in front of a very bad visits of some tens of peoples as their was played only in some private ice rinks at the Palace Hotel and Suvretta hotel. An exception to this unfortunate state was the moment when the domestic hockey player Torriani lighted the Olympic cauldron and performed the Olympic oath for all athletes. In difference of the World Championships in Prague held past year, this tournament had no many unexpected results and surprises. the tournament was in fact of a very good level with the traditionally really strong Canadians competing, plus the reigning Olympic champions from 1936 the Brits arrived too. The Italians unfortunately this time send a very weak team and it was clear they are going for the last place since the first match, in which they lost with the Czechoslovak team 22-3. More than half of the matches in the tournament ended with a double digit result, and this was one of them. The biggest difference in the score was in the match USA - Italy 31-1. A significant drop in the first post-war world championship was recorded by the Austrian team. The Bronze medals have been too far this time due to a single win throughout the tournament. The Scandinavian team was also very far away from the silver medals that they took from Prague. The British pre-war Olympic triumph did not even come close because they ended up behind the only representative from northern Europe. Instead, Poland retained its position after one year and again achieved two wins. Domestic ice was good for the Swiss. The top moments of their view included a high win against the Swedes, which was set by six goals from the Trepp and the Polter brothers line. Three days before the end of the tournament, the home team was still undefeated. but then lose to the best two teams of the tournament and took the Bronze medals. The Czechoslovak hockey team arrived to St. Moritz as a reigning and defending World Champion title from last year. Coach "Mike" Buckna this time could nominate seventeen players, two more than in the previous year. Since the start of the tournament, Czechoslovakia has been trying to overcome its opponents mainly with the offensive game, which was reflected in the individual match scores. In the first game Czechoslovakia defeated Italy 22-3, then came the match against the Swedes, One of the team's goals in the tournament was to revenge the one year's old defeat from Sweden, and it happened by winning 6-3. In the following match Czechoslovakia won over Poland 13-1, in next matches 11-4 over Great Britain (in this match the goalie Modrý was excluded and according the this times rules, one of the defenders had to go to protect the net) and 17-3 over Austria. Also the Canadian team passed the tournament Without any losing point, Its members were mainly RCAF mens who arrived at the from various military crews stationed in Europe. The Canadians came out to gain points mainly from a careful and excellent defense game. they conceded only 5 goals througouth the tournament. Although the match between Czechoslovakia and Canada players was due to take place a few days before the end of the tournament, it was clear that the new Olympic winner would be very likely decided in this match. Canada, receiving the minimum of goals so far, has entered the match in a more mentally favorable position. The Canadian native coach of the Czechoslovak team Buckna has decided to adapt the absolutely similar tactics for this key match to the opponent. The result of the two-sided hard defensive game was a logical 0-0 draw, more suited to the Canadians. For Czechoslovakia, it was also a significant success because they did not lost to Canda for the first time in history at the Ice Hockey World Championship. The Czechoslovak team still waited another important duel with the host nation team, the winner knew that will be awarded by the title of European Champion. The Swiss players had hopes even after the first period, but Czechoslovakia managed to decide the outcome of the match in the later parts and won 7-1 and the silver medals, the last win against USA 4-3 was not counted for the Olympic ranking. The Canadians by defeating the home team in the very last game of the tournament 3-0 officially confirmed their gold. They knew that they were +2 goals ahead of the Czechoslovakian team so in fact every win guaranteed them the triumph. For Czechoslovakia it was a bit painful knowing they just needed to score 2 more goals against one of the weakest opponents to win the historic title. The Olympic Medalists in the Ice Hockey Tournament of the Sankt Moritz 1948 WOG, Czechoslovakia, Canada and Switzerland Final Ranking: 1. Canada (Represented by Ottawa RAFC Flyers) 2. Czechoslovakia 3. Switzerland 4. Sweden 5. Great Britain 6. Poland 7. Austria 8. Italy - United States DSQ

  11. I agree, unfortunately it happened too often in the last couple of years, but since this season there some improvements made by the ICF, for example every run of the final is immediately reviewed by the video jury panel, but the usual 15 minutes of "waiting for eventual protests" still remains. but in overall as I said in this season it helped now to have the results official and definitive more quickly than in the past
  12. Congrats. She really deserved finally this success, Really great run
  13. No final for us in M K1 and W C1 !!! Especially disappointing in the mens kayak, Jakub Grigar missed the finals, is a really bad surprise, 1 hit costed him the top 10
  14. From today to Sunday Belgrade´s Arena Pionir will host the first round of the IIHF Continental Cup 2017/18, IIHF released in this occasion a interesting reading about the host team CZ Belgrade Guiding star Serbian powerhouse front-runners in development The Crvena Zvezda Belgrade celebrate a win, as of today they will host the first round of the IIHF Continental Cup. Despite a domestic title drought dating back to 2005, Continental Cup first-round host Crvena Zvezda Belgrade is now ready to rise up again at all levels. For a multi-sports club of such great magnitude where only top spot is deemed good enough, Crvena Zvezda (”Red Star”) has been forced to endure twelve painstakingly long seasons as second best. First arch-rivals Partizan Belgrade embarked on a trophy haul of 11 consecutive league titles between 2006-16 before new boys HK Beograd came to the forefront to hoist the domestic championship last season. But with Partizan's senior team currently in hibernation and HK Beograd deciding to pull the plug after just one season in what was then the Hungarian-Romanian MOL Liga, Crvena Zvezda is now stepping out from the shadows for their much-awaited place in the limelight. Hosting Group A of the Continental Cup in Belgrade's Pionir Ice Rink this weekend, the Serbian traditional powerhouse will take on Irbis-Skate Sofia from neighbouring Bulgaria, Turkey's Zeytinburnu Istanbul and newcomers Esja Reykjavik from Iceland. In an attempt to hit the ground running during a season which promises a lot, Crvena Zvezda sharpened their skills in Belarus during an intensive pre-season camp ahead of getting their 2017/18 season underway in the new cross-border International Hockey League, IHL, with road games in Slovenia this month. In the ten-team strong joint-venture between Slovenia, Serbia, and Croatia, Crvena Zvezda appears to have found a fitting stage for their continued progress. “The IHL is a perfect match for us,” said the club's Belarusian head coach Igor Krivoshlyk. “Our goal is to develop Serbian players, not to spend a huge amount of money on imports. At the moment we can afford this league and we are hoping it will be the long-term plan for us. We hope to be competitive with our domestic players and then in the future, we'll see if we are capable of bigger things,” he said. Krivoshlyk first got introduced to Crvena Zvezda during a stint as head coach in 2000/01. Having since amassed vast experience from coaching in the Belarusian leagues as well as in the Russian second-tier league VHL and the junior league MHL, he answered the call to return to Crvena Zvezda last season when he also worked as the head coach of the Serbian U20 national team. Ahead of this season came the sudden demise of two rivals in the Serbian capital, which directly was to benefit Krivoshlyk in his quest for success. With players jumping ship from what once had been HK Beograd, Crvena Zvezda turned effectively overnight into a club version of the Serbian national team that won bronze at the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division II Group A in Galati last April. With the senior team now having been considerably bolstered, further down the pecking order Crvena Zvezda is continuing to make strides. Former national team player Jovica Rus is the coordinator for the junior program at Crvena Zvezda where the development of youngsters is following the path of the senior team. Following years were strengthening ties with Hungary had been in focus, attention for the continued progress for the club's next generation is now focused on cooperation with Slovenia and Croatia. During the 2017/18 season, Crvena Zvezda will compete with four different age groups ranging from U12 to U18 in a blossoming international exchange, which the club hopes to reap the rewards of in years to come. “If we play against better opponents we will also get better,” said Rus, who also lines up a few of the challenges hindering hockey’s future prosperity in Serbia: “We need more clubs to have a clear development strategy if we want progress of Serbian hockey. Also, we need improvements in infrastructure. At the moment we only have one operative rink in the whole of Serbia. At least three more are needed,” he said. With an emphatic 7-1 win on the road in Slovenia's Maribor being a fine dress rehearsal for Crvena Zvezda ahead of the Continental Cup, the hosts now hope to turn up the heat in front of their home crowd where sealing top spot would mean participation in the next round played in Brasov, Romania. “Every team wants to win and we are no exception,” said Crvena Zvezda head coach Krivoshlyk. “We have a young team, but also experience with imports and Serbian national team players in our dressing room. Now we want to show the Serbian hockey community that we can play a high level of hockey,” he said.

  17. Beddoes to lead Azzurri New coach for Italian men’s national team Clayton Beddoes has been the assistant coach of the Italian men’s national team for the past two seasons. The Italian Ice Sports Federation (FISG) announces the decision to entrust the guidance of the Italian men’s national team to Clayton Beddoes, Canadian born in 1970, already assistant coach of the Blue Team in the last two seasons and with a well-known past as coach of Cortina and Vipiteno in Serie A and Alps Hockey League. Beddoes, who currently holds the role of assistant coach of the ERC Ingolstadt in the German DEL, succeeds Stephan Mair on Italy’s bench in order to continue the technical project launched by the FISG three years ago and with the firm goal of presenting the team in the best possible shape to the 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I Group A, scheduled for next April in Budapest, Hungary. The Euro Ice Hockey Challenge tournaments between November and February in Hungary and Poland will be important steps to test the growth and progress of the team on the way to the next Worlds. Thanks to the acquired experience as a level player – 60 NHL games in two seasons with the Boston Bruins – almost 20 years in Europe with a leading role in Italy and Germany, as well as the last months of work passed alongside the Italian team, put the new head coach Clayton Beddoes in the best conditions to guide the team, with the clear intention of exploiting the full potential and enhancing the young talents. Beddoes’ staff will also include Giorgio De Bettin, new assistant coach, currently assistant coach of Cortina with 115 national team games as well as a long and illustrious past in Serie A, and Jaakko Rosendahl, the coach of the last year’s goalkeepers and confirmed for the current season. The FISG, that will explore the possibility to enhance the coaching staff during the season, in the meantime wishes to coach Beddoes and all the Italian staff good luck for the upcoming events, will the full conviction that it has taken the best decision in the interest of Italian hockey and of the entire federal sport movement. – with files from the FISG
