    The rumor was that the flag was supposed to be a real, and a huge stunt. I’m not sure what happened with that…I thought they did a test run last month. Clearly they had to pivot to the CGI version.

    Izu velodrome is outside the Tokyo Prefecture, and the prefecture it is in allows for a limited amount of spectators to attend.

    I would disagree on that point. The current Omnium defines who the best tactical racer is. It isn’t a sprint; it isn’t a road race; it isn’t a time trial; it isn’t a pursuit; it’s pure, tactical racing over various formats that require different skills. That’s just my view of though.

    I like this current Omnium format, but the suggestion I’d make would to make it a two day event once more (with 2 races a day). Then, give us a extended 50 lap Scratch Race and a extended 50 lap Tempo Race on the first day, with the Elimination Race and Points Race on the second day.

    I think they need to make the Scratch Race longer. 30 laps just isn’t enough time for anything to play out tactically expect for a massive (and dangerous) field sprint. This definitely isn’t the first time I’ve seen this happen in a Scratch Race. Edit: Perhaps a bit of an over-reaction, since rider error is partially to blame of course. I still think they’re would be a net benefit from just extending the Scratch to 45 or 50 laps.
