  1. The Brazilian male skiers I support now are based in Spain (Manex Silva), Austria (Matheus Vasconcellos), Switzerland (Steve Hiestand) and Brazil (Lucas Martins), one each
  2. Swiss-Brazilian Steve Hiestand is apparently going to try and qualify for the Beijing Olympics. He's 35 years old and qualified for the Brazilian Olympic rowing team in 2016, but due to an IOC problem (something with nationality I guess) wasn't allowed to compete in the end. Today he finished barely half a minute behind Victor Santos (Brazil's 2018 Olympian)...and that's even though he only started skiing last year and his technique still has a lot to improve. Already almost under 200 FIS points today! https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/results.html?sectorcode=CC&competitorid=235877&raceid=34165 https://www.stevehiestand.ch/ I'm now 150% behind Steve, let's go
  3. Meh, mixed relay. But the Eurosport TV tip is a good one, might just tune in if I'm still awake or else watch it at breakfast
  4. I'm sure the Serbians on here know, but Dejan Curovic has died aged 51 due to leukemia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dejan_Čurović He was a bit of a cult figure in the Netherlands apparently, mostly seen as a hero among Vitesse fans.
  5. Even the ceremony, that sounds like tickets for the entire event are free? Heart attacks at the IOC headquarters being reported at the moment.
  6. During the Olympics there's literally no time for anything besides watching sports, discussing actual sports, eating (while watching sports), using the bathroom (while watching sports) and sleeping (while dreaming of sports), so that's easy.
  7. Because international federations like to pretend they care about athletes' health. With 'pretend' being a main word there.
  8. Ah yeah, that might explain the Japanese female swimmer saying the water was 'a little bit stinky' Wonderful, warm, shit-filled water. Am I glad I didn't become an open water swimmer.
  9. If you're calling me an equestrian hater, you're being factually incorrect.
  10. When should one do it? I have no idea what the best moment would be, but I can somewhat understand it, since closer to the Games might not leave enough time to work out (serious) issues, whereas further away from the Games might result in a situation where too many things are simply not planned to be ready yet.
  11. August's test events so far: Rowing - Venues everyone agrees on are as ugly as shit (even people who apparently never agree with anyone agree about it) Open water swimming - The water was practically boiling and the only solution seems to be to start at 5am, when the water is....still practically boiling Equestrian eventing - Didn't follow it that much, but all posts I've seen about anything but the competition itself seemed to be about ugly venues Triathlon - Totallympics imploding Boy, I can't wait what happens when the hockey, sailing and basketball gets underway!
  12. I'm expecting tonight's/tomorrow's men's competition to have a rather big number of viewers though after all this drama. Apparently it's again live on the Eurosport Player
  13. On the upside, there's more talk about the triathlon test event finish than there'll be about the entire Olympic triathlon.
  14. And then didn't want anyone to win (unlike Brownlee, where one brother actually pushed the other in front of him so they'd make a visible effort to break the tie).
  15. Being an avid runner, I'm actually not much against athletes helping another athlete. The Brownlee case for example, I'm sure you're familiar with it, is something I have no problem with.
  16. Stumbling onto an EPO-filled injection which then empties in your veins doesn't mean it's then ok to have EPO in your body. I should hope, at least.
  17. I got pulled over the finish line of the Amersfoort half marathon two months ago for 776th place or something. Nothing was done against it, which might be because nobody gave a crap because it's not an important competition...at all
  18. Or because it was just not nearly as important of a competition as this one. It's a big deal, since ranking points are involved. It really, truly is as simple as that.
  19. Apart from it being a question of rules, it's indeed also a question of honor: a true athlete goes for the best possible result, no matter against who.
  20. Count me in when keirin finals are starting. Keirin
  21. Oh absolutely. Watching a major balance beam final is one of the most tense things in sports for me anyway because literally every step can be the end (same feeling with the horizontal bar where every move can end up on the ground), but I do want to see as much crazy acrobatic stuff as possible
  22. Like we see in a gazillion sports events...after the finish.
