  1. Pretty much, yeah. Topped the charts in a few countries (including the Netherlands). Had completely forgotten that it actually got international attention
  2. Frederiksberg Station - Photo: Janus Kannuberg - Wiki It is a pleasure to welcome @Janakis, @IoNuTzZ and @rybak to a rather interesting place, the city within a city, Frederiksberg. It was at Kastanievej Efterskole here in the city that Kasper, Mads and Asger met and formed Kashmir back in 1991. They later became the very first Danish contestants in the TISC history in 2013. In many ways Frederiksberg is a part of Copenhagen, but it is really an autonomous city. As such its history is in many ways as the one of Copenhagen. For a long time, the area was farmland helping feed the castles of Copenhagen. In late 1600s-early 1700s Frederiksberg palace was built, but it was only in 1857 that Frederiksberg became an independent parish and since then it became more and more autonomous. During World War 2 the city met one of the biggest tragedies during the German occupation when by mistake a few British bombers hit the French school killing more than 100, mainly children. Frederiksberg Castle - Photo: Ikiwaner - Wiki Frederiksberg doesn’t have much sports clubs of its own, mainly being in corporation with Copenhagen. However Frederiksberg Allé has become the traditional finish of the “Tour de Denmark”, Postnord Danmark Rundt and several remarkable athletes are from here. Most noteworthy is football legend Michael Laudrup, but 1900 Olympic Tug of War Champion Charles Winckler and Per Lyngemark of the 1968 team pursuit champion team were both born here. Copenhagen Zoo - Photo: Guillaume Baviere - Wiki It’s easy to spend time in Frederiksberg. We have the Copenhagen Zoo and the Storm P museum just like there are plenty of lovely parks. But of course, with several of the main attractions of Copenhagen just a few stops away with the metro, there are many sights just outside Frederiksberg as well.
  3. Danish band Outlandish has a version as well
  4. Lyngby Station - Photo: Leif Jørgensen It is now time to welcome @dcro, @uk12points and @kungshamra71 to the hometown of 2015 TISC Open participant, C. V. Jørgensen, Kongens Lyngby. No problem getting here with the S-train? The area has seen settlements all the way back to the stone age. The city itself however dates back to the Viking ages but mainly grew up around the church built in the 12th century and since made langer. The city slowly grew during the years, especially when the railroad from Copenhagen started passing through, making some of the rich people from Copenhagen move here. In 1888 the main street of Lyngby was the first in Denmark to get electrical street lighting. Lyngby is also the site of one of many royal palaces, the lovely Sorgenfri Palace from 1756. Sorgenfri Palace - Photo: Paul Maingot In sports, Lyngby has a football team in the best Danish league and has fostered major athletes like Wimbledon doubles winner Frederik Løchte Nielsen, the Olympic swimmer Jeanette Ottesen and leading goal scorer of the 1992 UEFA Euro, Henrik Larsen. Frilandsmuseet - Photo: Bjonsson The most well-known site of Lyngby is the open-air museum “Frilandsmuseet”, but a nice trip around Lake Lyngby, the historic country house Frieboeshvile, Brede Works industrial museum, The Park around Sorgenfri Castle and the small music venue “Templet” are other fine ways to make the time pass before the big contest.
  5. You gotta give it to him... That's smarter than a rather big part of his voters Plenty of people wouldn't know where those countries are!
  6. Hellerup Station - Photo: Leif Jørgensen Wikipedia We can now welcome @amen09, @tuniscof, @OlympicIRL and @KingOfTheRhinos to Hellerup, hometown of the band Mew who represented Denmark at TISC Open 2014. I expect that it has been easy to get here! Hellerup is named after justice Johan David Heller who bought the country house Lokkerup in 1748 and renamed it Hellerupgaard. The actual city however only goes back to the late 1800’s where Carl Ludvig Ibsen began buying the area and building the town in close proximity of Copenhagen. At about the same time, the Tuborg Brewery was started in the area and was a major part of the city’s industry for about 100 years until the last beer was made here in 1996. Though many signs of the brewery have been taken down, a 26m tall observation tower in the shape of a beer bottle is still standing. Hellerup also has a place for reminding the darker times, as Ryvangen Memorial Park is situated here. The Park where one of the major execution places during the Nazi occupation was situated, is now a memorial of the resistance fighters who lost their lives during the occupation. Tuborgflasken - Photo: Wikipedia Though Hellerup isn’t very known for sports, with the tennis club being the only major competitor nationally, some noteworthy athletes are from the town including Ole Berntsen, gold medalist in Dragon sailing at the 1964 Olympics and dressage legend Lis Hartel who won two Olympic silvers in dressage even though paralyzed from the waist down. Experimentarium - Photo: Andersbruun - Wiki With the proximity to Copenhagen, there are plenty of attractions within a short train ride and within a walking distance we have the Science Center, Experimentarium, the lovely Øregaard Museum, Ryvangen and some nice ocean views to get some fresh air.
  7. He is a rather interesting athlete. Decathlon at summer, skeleton at winter
  8. You are guest here, and yet you make jokes about one of our first kings?
  9. Slagelse Station - Photo: Leif Jørgensen It is a pleasure to welcome @heywoodu, @intoronto and @Griff88 to Slagelse, hometown of Michael Poulsen, lead singer of our representatives in the 2014 TISC Annual, Volbeat. We trust you had a calm train ride here! The history of the city dates a long way back with the area being a place of heathen worship in the past. When Christianity came to Denmark, the area grew. Close by the Viking ring castle Trelleborg was built, possibly ordered by Harald Bluetooth while a church and later a monastery was built in what is now Slagelse. During the industrialization the city grew, especially due to the railways. The city has throughout history been known for the pupils of the latin school that includes some of the most noteworthy authors in Denmark, the internationally most familiar being Hans Christian Andersen who was a pupil 4 years, a time that the author despised. Slagelse Latin School - Photo: Toxophilus - Wikipedia As a sports fan, you may remember this as the city of Anja Andersen’s handball team Slagelse DT that won 3 Champions League titles between 2004 and 2007. It is also the birthplace of former hour record holder Ole Ritter. Saint Michaels's Church We are sure that you, unlike H.C. Andersen, will be enjoy your stay. You won’t be bored. With Trelleborg and several museums, the old Saint Michael’s Church, a lovely coastal area nearby and several other cozy cities to visit, there are plenty of views to take in before the contest.
  10. Not just annoyed. Rather pissed, as it won't work on my smart-TV Haven't used it much on my laptop or phone yet, so don't know about that.
  11. TISC Team Challenge Guidelines The TISC Team Challenge consists of 12 teams of 3 members each and the host, Denmark, as a joker. Each team is named after an artist or band who have previously represented Denmark in TISC. Each team will additionally get the oppertunity to experience the hometown of the artist or band their team is named after. The competition will be held in a relay format of 3 legs and each leg will consist of a pair from each team. Leg 1 will involve the votes of the juries positioned 1-13 in the voting order; leg 2 will include those juries positioned 14-25; leg 3 spans the votes of juries located 26-37 in the time schedule. There will be one pair consisting of two members from each team which can score on each leg. Only the score of the pair taking part in that specific leg will count towards the team competition. Pairs Team 1st Leg 2nd Leg 3rd Leg Jørgensen Great Britain + Portugal Croatia + Portugal Croatia + GreatBritain Dinesen Chile + Mexico P.R. of China + Mexico P.R. of China + Chile Volbeat Canada + Indonesia Netherlands + Indonesia Netherlands + Canada Communions Slovenia + Sweden Lithuania + Sweden Lithuania + Slovenia Myrkur Kazakhstan + India Algeria + India Algeria + Kazakhstan Sort Sol Spain + France Hungary + France Hungary + Spain Raveonettes Norway + New Zealand Italy + New Zealand Italy + Norway Herman Brazil + Argentina Moldova + Argentina Moldova + Brazil Dickow Slovakia + Finland Malta + Finland Malta + Slovakia Kashmir Romania + Poland Greece + Poland Greece + Romania Mew Ireland + Australia Tunisia + Australia Tunisia + Ireland Blaue Blume Egypt + Serbia United States + Serbia United States + Egypt Denmark Example: Each team consists of 3 members, A,B and C. Team member A is positioned 1-13, B is 14-25 and C is 26-37 in the voting order. Leg 1: consists of the votes of National Juries #1-13 (member A votes) B and C compete as doubles partners on this leg Leg 2: consists of the votes of National Juries #14-25 (member B votes) A and C compete as doubles partners on this leg Leg 3: consists of the votes of National Juries #26-37 (member C votes) A and B compete as doubles partners on this leg The host nation, Denmark, will act as a joker. The host nation will not take part on any team, but its vote will count towards the team competition. This means if member B or C of a team gets one or more points from Denmark then those points will count towards the score of that team on that leg. Additionally, if any member's national jury has awarded any points to the Danish entry, the member will, regardless of any of the rules stated above, receive the same amount of points back which will count towards the team competiton. These bonus points are named "schmooze points", a.k.a. "thanks-for-voting-on-Denmark-here-are-some-points-just-because-the-host-jury-thinks-you-deserve-them points". After all legs are completed, the team with the highest total team score will be deemed the winner. In the event that 2 or more teams are tied for one or more positions at the end of the contest, the total score of the 2 highest scoring pairs on each team will be used to break the tie. If there is still a tie, the highest scoring pair of each team will decide the any-tiebreaker. If after that the tie remains, then the teams will be deemed to have tied for the same position and no further tie-breaks will apply.
