  3. my mistake...I was confusing him with someone else... he's actually a Turkish born guy...
  4. I have to check that out...I was almost sure he's one of those they took from Caucasus... I'll do some research on that...
  5. yeah, maybe I was a bit harsh on Conyedo after watching his bout against Baitsaev... moreover, as I wrote, yesterday he was heavily strapped on one knee and looked like he was limping even before the start of the bout... meanwhile this morning he looked like another man against Odikadze... we'll see in the next future if he's more like yesterday's of today's (obviously I hope he's better than what I saw yesterday)... Chamizo is a continuous surprise...I didn't expect him to beat Tsabolov that way... by the way, Tsabolov is the only Russian that hasn't got at least to the semifinals...today we have 5 of them in the 5 gold medal matches...and 4 out of 5 in the semis of tomorrow's weights...
  6. great job by Frank Chamizo, who literally destroyed both the Georgian guy and the Russian Tsabolov in the quarterfinals of the -74kg class, showing that he's perfectly fit also for this weight, the 3rd different one since 2015 (and not counting the -55kg in 2010, when he was still a kid wrestling for his native Cuba)... now it's time to face the reigning European Champion in this class, Soner Demirtas from Turkey (actually, a Russian born guy), in the semis... on the other hand, unlucky outcome for Shamiil Kudiiamagomedov, the other brand new face of the Italian team...after defeating quite easily Makoev (formerly RUS, now SVK), he wrestled very well against the "true" Russian Naifonov, but in the end he lost by just 1 single point (7-6, a very interesting bout)... I hope that Naifonov can at least make the final, so to give Shamil the chance to try and get a Bronze in this first experience with our team...

Today's Afternoon program (semis from 4.15 p.m. CET, finals from 5 p.m. CET) Men's Freestyle Wrestling, Finals 57kg Gold: RUS vs AZE Bronze: SRB vs ESP & ARM vs BLR 65kg Gold: AZE vs RUS Bronze: TUR vs SLO & GEO vs POL 70kg Gold: RUS vs POL Bronze: UKR vs GEO & BLR vs AZE 79kg Gold: GER vs RUS Bronze: MDA vs HUN & TUR vs AZE 97kg Gold: BLR vs RUS Bronze: MKD vs AZE & GEO vs UKR Semifinals 61kg AZE vs GEO RUS vs TUR 74kg FRA vs BLR ITA vs TUR 86kg AZE vs GEO TUR vs RUS 92kg AZE vs TUR GEO vs RUS 125kg POL vs GEO TUR vs RUS
  8. naaa... AK Bars only have veterans who don't want to play for the NT anymore, young guys not ready for this stage yet and, above, their key players are not Russian (Azevedo from USA and Klinkhammer, who's Canadian if I remember correctly )... there were not players from Kazan also at the Olympics...and here they also have a few NHLers (6 atm), so it's quite obvious that there's no place for AK Bars people in this team... p.s. by the way, great start for me in the prediction contest...4 correct results out of 4 games...I only missed a few goals from Russia and Sweden (I always hope not to see too many blowouts)...
  9. it looks I overestimated France once again...but at least I got the North-American derby winners (and score) right... so, not a bad start for me, after all...
  10. Today's Results Women's Wrestling, Finals 53kg Gold: Stalvira Orshush (RUS) Silver: Vanesa Kaladzinskaya (BLR) Bronze: Maria Prevolaraki (GRE) & Katarzyna Krawczyk (POL) 57kg Gold: Bilyana Zhivkova Dudova (BUL) Silver: Irina Ologonova (RUS) Bronze: Emese Barka (HUN) & Alyona Kolesnik (AZE) 62kg Gold: Taybe Mustafa Huseyn (BUL) Silver: Inna Trazhukova (RUS) Bronze: Ilona Prokopevniok (UKR) & Veranika Ivanova (BLR) 65kg Gold: Petra Maarit Olli (FIN) Silver: Elis Manolova (AZE) Bronze: Krystsina Fedarashka (BLR) & Henna Katarina Johansson (SWE) 72kg Gold: Anna Jenny Eva Maria Fransson (SWE) Silver: Anastasiya Zimiankova (BLR) Bronze: Cynthia Vanessa Vescan (FRA) & Alexandra Nicoleta Anghel (ROU) Men's Freestyle Wrestling, Semifinals 57kg RUS b. 11. yeah, I already read about that yeasterday... and I can only confirm my previous thought...I don't know who's right, who's wrong, who's 50-50... I only know that nobody is trustable anymore in the world of sport when it comes to doping matters and/or money questions... and this is very, very sad...
  12. Conyedo is not as good as we thought...so, in this case I don't see the point in using guys like him instead of a young "native" wrestler like Iannattoni (who won the bronze medal in the junior Europeans last year in the same weight class...at least he would have made a useful experience towards the future competitions)... our Cuban-born wrestler was literally destroyed by Baitsaev in less than 3 minutes... OK, it looks that he was injured at one knee (he was even limping from the start of the bout), but it was clear that the Russian was just in another class...quicker, stronger and with better technique... hopefully, Kudiiamagomedov should be a lot more competitive...

  14. If it's true, it's a very sad story... if it's not, that's even worse... whatever is the truth, it's not a good day for athletics...
  15. Last February's warnings apparently haven't been taken seriously enough by AIBA, so IOC President, Thomas Bach, yesterday came back on this question... https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/olympics/ioc-says-boxing-still-risks-being-removed-from-2020-olympics/2018/05/03/6ec899aa-4f00-11e8-85c1-9326c4511033_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.620b15a3bc7a however, I'd like to see some facts, not just words...KICK THIS FARCE OUT OF THE GAMES!!!

  19. Great and unexpected result by the young (20 years just yesterday) Jacopo Sandron...finally, some sign of life by an Italian born wrestler... I hope he's not a one-day wonder, but he can repeat himself more and more times in the future...

  24. some interesting rosters, I see... a lot of big names (I didn't expect people like Kane nor McDavid, to be honest) and also some surprising choices... I'm particularly skeptical about the Czech team... and if I'm not wrong, I also see quite a different team from Pyeongchang by my Slovakian friends...
  25. because it's a senseless farce...and I hope that after Tokyo (long life to Japan) would be dismissed as quickly as it was hired...
