  1. The Brazilian crowd was terrible and they didn't support anyone who was not Brazilian. Argentinian crowd at least showed support for not-so-known countries like Zambia in field hockey. But the thing is: prices for the tickets in Rio were way higher than most people could pay, so only Brazilians from the upper middle class (or higher) could pay for the most expensive tickets. Most of these people are mostly ignorant, uneducated and morally reprehensible -- they believe money can buy anything, so they don't really care about the consequences of their actions. I am deeply ashamed of them. But when Argentina had the chance to host the Olympics with free tickets, which means everybody could enjoy all sports a bit, this old and senseless feud between Brazil and Argentina could still be seen, while we should support each other instead. A very minor complaint, as I said, but a complaint, nevertheless.
  2. So, earns the last gold medal of the Games. lost the chance to reach the top 10 in the medal table, unfortunately. From the "outside", the Games seemed to have really good organization! I'm impressed! Argentina sometimes let the old rivalry against Brazil get the best ot them (especially in futsal final, when many people wore ARG jerseys and cheered against Brazil) but this is a very very minor complaint. Congratulations to Argentina for an awesome event!
  3. What a massive shock to see Argentina lose the bronze medal match in futsal! Congratulations, Egypt! Excellent result for an African nation!
  4. I only joined Totallympics because I wanted to know more about the qualification systems for the 2014 YOG and I couldn't find any info about that. It's weird to think I've been around for almost 5 years now. It doesn't look this much time, really.
  5. It's almost anticlimactic to her our first gold medal in the second to last day. I believe the climax of the Olympics is before the end of the first week, and the last days are kind of sad because we're usually coming to terms with the fact it will be over soon. Anyway, nice to earn a gold medal, and another gold medal seems likely tomorrow, so I can't complain.
  6. Her Amanar was definitely not ready, but the Silivas was pretty good. What an unfortunate moment to get injured. I wish her a speedy recovery. She's Romania's only hope, in my opinion, for good results (at least until 2020).
  7. Nice! There's hope for Fernando Reis, then. He finished 5th at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and both the gold and silver medalists had been banned for doping before, so... Just joking. In all honesty, even though weightlifting has zero visibility in Brazil, it's still nice to watch and it's easy to get easily excited about. But I always have the impression I'm being deceived, so I don't even force myself to watch it anymore. Some nations should be banned for 10 years or more from this sport.
  8. Our flagbearer at the opening won a bronze-medal bout in boxing. Now, I hate boxing, but I sympathize with the kid: he had a lot of pressure on him, first for being the flagbearer, and second because he's the grandson of Servílio de Oliveira, who won the first Olympic medal in boxing for Brazil (a bronze medal in 1968). The biggest media coverage in Brazil around the YOG was about him, so I can imagine how hard it must have been for the poor kid. (Professinal) Boxing was huge when I was younger, and even today it has its loyal supporters in Brazil (especially in the Northeastern region of the country). So, we'll end up with 13 medals (11 medals now + 2 finals, one in boxing and one in futsal), a surprising number considering I expected 5 medal at most before the Games started. It's nice to see youth sport is not dead in Brazil.
  9. Sri Lanka eliminated China in Archery. What a big surprise!
  10. Scoring in diving is very open-ended. This is why I don't like diving, even though I love gymnastics. You can't dish out scores as you want in gymnastics; it has to follow a specific code of points where each and every deduction is clearly noted. It's not perfect, but at least it's not as crazy as diving is.
  11. Back to rhythmic gymnastics now, and the girl from Armenia is SPECTACULAR.
  12. Karate not only had the most ridiculous rules for Qualification (at least one continent should be represented per gender, not per weight), they also have a ridiculous rule for allowing two bronze medals. 8 athletes compete, 4 get a medal. This is stupid. This is the sport I mostly dislike at the Olympics, and even in their first-ever appearance they cannot get things right.
  13. Iceland got their first ever Olympic gold medal. Nice.
  14. The top 3 had better times than she had. Nice for her, though. And another medal for Brazil. 2 medals in 1 hour. I can't complain.
  15. Unexpected bronze medal in Athletics!
  16. The Brazilian flagbearer lost his SF bout in boxing. Ouch. One more chance for gold gone. We have another one in the afternoon, and even if this guy loses, he will probably fight against Samoa for the bronze medal, so another medal is quite possible.
  17. I don't know why in Twitter everybody says Brazil is the team "verdeamarelha". The words for yellow in Portuguese are amarelo (male) and amarela (female), not amarelha. My best guess is that in Spanish the word is "amarillo" and they think they have to "convert" the "ll" to "lh" in Portuguese.
  18. Yes! We still have a chance for a gold medal. Congratulations to Argentina for an awesome match.
  19. What a lost opportunity to seal the deal.
  20. Stop it! Don't try to interfere in our only chance for a gold medal here.
  21. Another medal for Diogo! Yes!!
  22. Poor Dolci. So many mistakes. He must be happy with a silver medal, though. Huge achievement.
  23. Yup. Only a few tenths more and he could have won a medal.
