  1. The Downie sisters are known for being headcases, but man this was really rough. Eliie lost her balance right at the first kip to handstand. This is the easiest skill in her routine! Girl, this is the WCh final, who does that kind of mistake? Then she had another silly mistake in the easiest skills in her routine again, and had to count an empty swing, bad leg form and eventually a fall (only the fall was deducted, though, since errors leading to the fall are not counted). Wow.
  2. And now Whitlock got silver. It looks like the clear favorites (Shirai, Whitlock) are only getting silver today. Well, Petrounias is next and Zanetti was second in qualifications, so let's hope this chain keeps up going strong.
  3. Not this time. She opted for a "simpler" vault (6.0 instead of 6.4). Her execution was not the best, but still pretty good. The second vault is both very hard AND her execution is nothing short of extraordinary, so she did deserve this title regardless of how difficult her vaults were.
  4. This could be the year when the Americas (the continents) will finally shine at the World Championships. Three nations already got medals, Brazil has very big chances ahead and Colombia has a real chance on the parallel bars.
  5. OMG! It's unbelievable that Olsen with an awkward and ugly first vault got a better score than Moreno. No. Just no.
  6. I think Moreno will earn a medal now that the South Korean girl did not do so well.
  7. If a gymnast has a late turn during a pirouette in handstand position, this eats up 0.5 from her score. Maybe she performed a late pirouette two times and nailed it in the all around final? I don't know, really, just a wild guess.
  8. In 2004 there was a problem with the vault table, so the whole event should have been canceled and the final should have been held another day. The problem is that Khorkina fell on vault, then she lost her focus and fell the uneven bars as well, so the problem might have been her lack of mental strength to recover after a problem, and we can't say this is a problem from anyone but herself. In 2012 Komova had a significant deduction on vault, and she has no one to blame but herself. Douglas is not my favorite gymnast, but she deserved the gold medal.
  9. Even counting two falls, Biles is the world champion 1.693 ahead of Mai Murakami. Yes, she deserved the gold medal even with the falls, but she was slightly overscored on floor. Not that it would have made any difference, actually.
  10. He was not among the favorites for a medal. The fact that he did really well in three apparatus is what is surprising. Now, pommel horse and parallel bars alone should be enough for the Chinese gymnasts to take the lead. And it's a bit sad that the guy from the Phillipines is having a terrible day. Let's see how he performs on floor.
  11. This is interesting. The lyrics are very similar in Spanish and Portuguese, so this is mostly an adaptation. Of course, if the original creators were not informed about the adaptation this is copyright infringement, but I have no idea about whether they did know or not. As a side note, unfortunately the singer of the song Lambada was murdered in a shocking and utterly cruel crime last year. May her rest in peace.
  12. I wanted a medal too, but I'm happy with the fact we have grown so much that we can challenge for a medal. Last time Brazil made team finals at the world championships was in 2007! And now if we had repeated the scores on the uneven bars from the qualifying stage, we would have won silver. Insane! Flávia still has a chance on floor. She had the second best score today!
  13. Exciting final! We could have won silver, and I'm shocked! We were in third with one apparatus to go, then disaster struck. But I'm quite happy with the results.
  14. Bolsonaro won. This country is doomed.
  15. FIG and their stupid rules. Thank you for sharing. From what I understand, the top 24 teams advance to the 2019 World Championships and then one African team will also receive an extra quota based on the performance at the 2019 African Artistic Gymnastics Championships, so Egypt is not guaranteed a team as of yet (unless there's no team competition at the 2019 African Championships, or the championships is not held). So the Czech Republic will be allowed to compete as a team at the 2019 Worlds. Anyway, I'm happy things turned out to be like this. Egypt will probably be given one quota anyway (or qualify at the African Championships), and the Czech Republic still managed to qualify at the very last second. I'm glad we'll be able to see Ponizilova and Holasova at the 2019 Worlds!
  16. Is this a new rule? Edit: Never mind. The top 24 rule does not exist anymore, so yay! For teams:-The top three teams from the 2018 World Championships qualify to the Olympic Games. -The The top nine teams (not including those already qualified) from the 2019 World Championships will also advance, forming the 12 teams who will compete in the team event. *The 2019 Worlds will be open to all federations who wish to send a team, whereas currently the year before the Olympics only the top 24 teams from the previous year's Worlds are able to compete.
  17. I'm nervous for Egypt. I want the team to stay in the top 24 so they can qualify for the next World Championships, but it is going to be next to impossible. Egypt is currently 24th with four teams to go. Argentina is 23rd and I want the team to hang onto the top 24 as well, but it's going to be really tough.
  18. In a shocking turn of events, 2015 bronze medalists Great Britain did not qualify for team finals. Unbelievable! Congratulations, Germany! We still have two subdivisions ahead, but seriously no other team can even come close to scoring 161.
  19. Brazil finished ahead of Japan even with a disastrous beam rotation. F*ck yeah!
  20. Oh, ok, so Brazil has imploded on beam. There goes my dreams.
  21. If Brazil, Russia and Great Britain keep up the great work, team finals are going to be very exciting. Literally any of the top 8 teams will be able to fight for a medal. This has probably not happened since the late 1990s, at best.
