  1. A public execution may be needed. I'm sick of Canadian announcers talking about the world catching up. No one forced Jones to miss that easy shot in the Swiss game to lose. No one forced her team to miss 8 shots in a row against China. No one made the mixed doubles forget how to play curling suddenly. They just played badly. A 15 year old at the local rink could have made those shots.
  2. Only way for Canada now is if Korea comes back and beats Sweden. They're down 2 in the 10th with hammer.
  3. They did, but Japan losing means they tie with them, too, and Canada lost to Japan. So because all four teams beat each other at some point, it comes down to draws to the buttons over the week and Team Jones is dead last in that category. It is frustrating that Canada beat 3/4 of the other teams they're tied with but will not make it in.
  4. I'm watching all three games and literally everything is going wrong.
  5. Jones did this to herself with that pathetic ending to the China game last night. TBH, she doesn't deserve the playoffs. But I still want it.
  6. Well, only chance for Canada now is if ROC and KOR don't both lose, or both don't win.
  7. Ridiculous decision. Even Maier doesn't agree.
  8. For the first time ever a Canadian does not win this event. But we defended silver for 3 in a row!
  9. Silver! Best case scenario, honestly. Great comeback on that race.
  10. Phelan would have gotten second if Smith wouldn't have gotten off track at the finish. Oh well, one Canadian in the final.
  11. She probably took that late penalty so US would score and she'd get the GWG.
  12. Poulin with yet another GWG in a gold medal game.
  13. YYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. GGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Well, you say 30 was an average, but that would have been pretty good to me. 25 was basically minimum expectation. Like I said, so much relies on not falling down that I thought 25 was the minimum if everything went wrong, while 35 was Canada's ceiling. Most everything has gone wrong, so 25 is where we're aiming. We also have to remember that from 2010-2018 curling/hockey were guaranteed medals, with golds (2010: 4/3; 2014: 4/4; 2018: 3/1). This time we're likely looking at one medal and maybe not even a gold. And I feel like this puts a damper on our whole Olympics because these are the two team sports and they can create the mood for each day. So far, not good in Beijing besides the women's hockey team.
  16. Went for the homer pick again, I don't care. Canadians have won this event (and 5/9 medals) every time. I'd rather be wrong betting for a Canadian than be wrong betting against her. Go Marielle!
  17. My estimation was 25-35 medals for Canada, including 7-10 golds. I feel like 25 minimum is still in sight, but the golds are long gone. Five would be amazing at this point. There's so much decided by millimeters in the winter Olympics, and Canada happens to be best at the sports that rely on not falling down, so it's always hard to predict. What has killed Canada this time is that they have underperformed at the sports where merely doing your job should get you medals, like speed skating and curling. At the same time, there have been surprises in alpine, and most of all ski jumping (Olympic moment if there ever was one). Besides medals, Canada has performed well in cross country and biathlon. I actually got more excited for those finishes than some medals, tbh. Biathlon in particular is very exciting and dramatic. Short track men's relay is a big deal to me, and the gold makes these Olympics good. Women finishing 4th hurt, though. Men's hockey sucks, but a medal was always going to be tough, but with Slovakia winning today a win tonight could have meant very good chances for at least the bronze. Curlers have been a disappointment, and I'd be mildly surprised at a medal there now. I was at the gold medal women's hockey game in 2018 and to see them lose in a shootout, and then go to Canada House to interact with the players, I knew they'd come to Beijing ready for gold. That is one saving grace now (but I'm so used to disappointment here). Sorry for rambling on, a couple of nights ago I had friends over for the GB vs CAN curling game and I prepared some alcohol. Too much apparently, and since this is the last night of my holiday I decided to get rid of it all single-handedly. I thought it was going to be a really good night for Canada, and it was in one way. And one way only. But a big one way. GO CANADA! and all that.
  18. Canada with gold medal chances in hockey and ski cross. Our unsung athletes seem to be performing while the favourites are not, so I fully expect none of our ski cross girls to get past the quarters while we get two medals in speed skating.
  19. Ok, now officially nothing can happen to change this from being a disaster Olympics for Canada.
  20. Good game, Sweden. I'd say go win gold, but I want Slovakia to destroy everyone now. This is what happens when 3/4 of your games are against China and Germany. No disrespect because they played us hard enough to sound the alarms against a better coaching staff. Instead Julien and his minions thought they were owed a win here. I'm a fan of Julien's old NHL team (Habs) and I know how bad he is.
  21. You have to think for CBC. First, terrible time difference for these Olympics. Then, no real figure skaters for Canada. Curlers and men's hockey doing terribly. Barely any golds. This has to be the worst Olympics ratings-wise for CBC in a long time. You can hear it in the hockey announcers voices.
  22. As a Habs fan, this is Julien hockey. "Defense" first. Meaning everyone is afraid to lose, and then they can't make passes and make mistakes. No offence. Lazy shots from the point into the defenders shin pads. Yup, experience Julien hockey.
  23. Lol, Disaster Olympics continue for Canada. Why not be pathetic at hockey, too?
