  1. so Jana Messerschmidt is just one win away from the Olympics. she was way behind the Taiwanese girl before the Portugal K1 event but she lost in the first round and put herself in this situation. last ranking quota will be decided tomorrow
  2. surprised that our guy Rezaei went toe to toe with European canoeists, finished 2nd (which is also the 2nd best result in all 3 heats and yes I know we can't compare time from different heats) and has to go through the semifinals why the hell they sent someone else to the Asian Qualifiers ?! it's impossible to qualify here with all these European athletes but Asian QT was at least possible for him (that Chinese guy was also too good though)
  3. after the first day of European Karate Championships. our list is almost complete the following athletes joined the list of already qualified karatekas Ivan Kvesic (Men's 84kg) Sajjad Ganjzadeh (Men's +84kg) Jonathan Horne (Men's +84kg) Gong Li (Women's 68kg) Meltem Hocaoglu (Women's +68kg) only one quota is left and will be decided tomorrow. that's between Wen Tzu-Yun and Jana Messerschmidt in women's 55kg. Messerschmidt has to win the gold to qualify.
  4. it's done now. the following guys are qualified for Tokyo Sajjad Ganjzadeh Ivan Kvesic really bad luck for Zabih Poursheib, no more chance Gogita Arkania can still make it in France.
  5. Aktas is in QF now and needs 1 more win but I think it's already done. even if he loses to Slovakia. the Slovakian guy has to face Kvesic in the SF and I believe Kvesic will lose intentionally to keep Aktas in the repechage, that will be enough. (just participating in repechage) even though Aktas most probably doesn't need that and he will win the QF.
  6. Jonathan Horne beat Gogita Arkania in the QF 5-0 and qualified for the Olympics. interestingly after 2-3 years of traveling and competing everywhere, their Olympic quota was decided in a direct match between them. Arkania still can qualify today depends on Aktas.
  7. no. max is 990 if there are more than 32 athletes in the bracket . for less than that. the max is 930. 67kg is already done with France and Egypt qualifying.
  8. Hocaoglu made it to the final and the Olympics. she didn't need that since Chatziliadou lost before the final
  9. brackets are up Arkania and Horne are in the same pool and will meet in the QF , that will settle the Olympic spot (even though it's still possible for both of them to qualify) Aktas needs to win 3 matches to help Kvesic and Ganjzadeh to qualify. interestingly Kvesic is in the same half as Aktas, if they face in the SF that means Kvesic is already qualified and he can try to win the gold in his home country but if Aktas loses to someone and that someone faces Kvesic in SF. he has to lose to bring Aktas to the repechage and qualify himself for the Olympics. that's a weird situation which one matters more ? European Championship Gold or the Olympic quota ? Jana Messerschmidt (55kg) and Elena Quirici will qualify only if they win the gold. and for the women's 68kg quota, Hocaoglu and Chatziliadou are in two different sides. Hocaoglu is leading by something like 750pts. the Greek has to win the gold to stand a chance but she will qualify only if Hocaoglu doesn't make to the medal round or even the repechage.
  10. why Canadian government didn't offer hosting the Pan-American Qualification event instead of sending this letter now ?! all American boxers deserve an equal chance to qualify for the Olympics. this shouldn't be based on that useless ranking which wasn't important at the time and I'm sure so many other boxers beside Bujold didn't take it seriously. they can't play the pregnant card though.
  11. in Iran picking the wrestling team was always like rocket science , they always make it very complicated. and it seems this year half of the Olympic team members will be decided in Poland! we had trials in different dates and different locations for each weight even though technically winning the trials won't secure you a place in the team but we know that's enough. so this will be our Olympic team Freestyle 57kg: Reza Atri won the trials 3 months ago 65kg: 2 guys will wrestle in Iran for the spot (Amir Mohammad Yazdani and Morteza Ghiasi) 74kg: 2 wrestlers in Poland (Younes Emami and Mostafa Hosseinkhani) 86kg: Hassan Yazdani won the trials 3 months ago 97kg: 3 wrestlers in Poland (M. H. Mohammadian, Ali Shaabani and Alireza Karimi) 125kg: 2 wrestlers in Poland (Amir Hossein Zare and Amin Taheri) Greco-Roman is a different story. our coach simply doesn't believe in direct trials most of the time. he will send some wrestlers in Poland which means he already know his team in other weights. 60kg: Alireza Nejati is selected unofficially 67kg: Mohammad Reza Geraei is selected unofficially 77kg: Mohammad Ali Geraei is selected unofficially 87kg: Didn't qualify 97kg: 2 wrestlers in Poland (Hadi Saravi and Mehdi Bali) 130kg: 3 wrestlers in Poland (Amir Ghasemi-Monjazi, Amin Mirzazadeh and Akbar Yousefi)
  12. nothing is announced yet. but I think Iran will pick the W1X quota. just because women's sport needs more support. that's just my personal guess (and choice) though. a bit lazy to check if that changes anything in term of reallocation.
  13. you are welcome. it ended disappointing for our Olympic Champions though I'm much better now, can walk properly but still I don't think I'm going to run a marathon anytime soon
  14. North Korea officially withdrew https://www.the-afc.com/competitions/afc-asian-cup/news/latest-update-on-asian-qualifiers FIFA will decide about the outcome soon. hopefully they just give the remaining matches 3-0 to the opponents. if they remove PRK from the table, Iran has to win all 4 matches to qualify ----------- this also shows PRK is very serious about not going to Tokyo
  15. this is a different Martirosyan from Austria
  16. there are only 4 African weightlifters in the ranking in that weight. Bidani will finish in top 8, the other guy is also from Algeria. obviously he can't qualify. there are 2 weightlifters from Morocco in bottom of the table but they participated in two events so far and with one more event left. they can't fulfill 4 mandatory participation. unless someone from 109kg plays "smart" and participated in +109kg in the African Championship. (and makes himself eligible for this weight) this quota will be reallocated.
  17. and the last one +109kg 100% safe Talakhadze Davoudi Reis Assad Toychyyev Bidani Wilkes (Pan America) Liti (Oceania) this weight is hard to predict because we have two 109kg weightlifters who can qualify here ! Ruiz and Martirosjan. Ruiz has a good chance to qualify in his own weight but Martirosjan (who participated today but withdrew from CJ) can play dirty and qualifies somewhere else and grabs someone else's rightful place. we also have uncertainties about ARM and BLR . they both have 1 quota and have guys in other weights. Orsag will qualify if only one of those NOCs above doesn't pick this weight. KOR and JPN are next in line but I believe they are not going to pick this weight. Nagy also has to wait for others and their selections. if both JPN and KOR finish in top 8 or decline the quota (very likely) TPE is next in line for the Asian spot. nobody is eligible for the African quota. that one will be reallocated.
  18. 109kg the following guys are 100% safe Djuraev Chumak Michalski Plesnieks (at least Europe) Kitts (Pan America) Lydement (Oceania) Bacha (Africa) almost safe Naniev or Bochkov I believe Russia will use its lone quota here. but I have absolutely no idea about Armenia and Belarus. Martirosyan and Aramnau are safe in the ranking but their NOCs are limited to 1. Martirosyan is the current WR holder but bombing out at the Europeans and that car accident changes his status. he is still favorite to go. Hristov will participate at the Junior Worlds, to improve his points. even though I believe he is already safe (since China is not going to pick Yang Zhe) If Hristov finishes in top 8, then Ruiz will qualify too Hashemi is currently in top 8, after what happened in 96kg he is likely to go to Tokyo but still nothing is clear. currently has 2 weightlifters for the Asian quota but if they move up 1 or 2 positions they will be in top 8 making Mochida the Asian qualifier. if I was Japan I would pick Mochida over 96kg guy but he is not eligible yet.
  19. the honest answer is "I don't know" ! the official document says how do you read that ? to me that says they are going to give those 4 unused host quotas to the countries with no qualified weightlifters. I don't know about the wild cards, they made a long list of "weaker" countries and the tripartite quotas will go to them. if they can't find 3 eligible weightlifters for each gender the above about the host quotas will happen again. this is the list of eligible NOCs https://www.iwf.net/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2019/08/Annex-2-List-of-eligible-NOCs-Invitation-Places-Tokyo-2020.pdf
  20. well we have two Olympic Champions in 96kg but none of them will qualify. instead some random guy from Iran is in top 8 without even trying to be there ! isn't that great ?! well I'm going to finish what I started . these guys are 100% safe El-Bakh Pliesnoi Santavy Vallenilla Opeloge (Oceania) most probably to participate Yu or Jang Yamamoto Saez Tian Tao is 1st the ranking but he is unlikely to go to Tokyo, BLR also has 2 guys in top 8 but still not clear if they use their lone quota in this weight. both KOR and JPN can send someone in this weight but still not a sure thing if they do. ironically Ali Miri (IRN) is also in top 8 but he isn't even "ready" at the moment. Iran will have to pick between him and Hashemi (109kg) both of them are out of shape. one of them is going to participate just for fun. Rasulbekov (KGZ) is alive for the Asian quota if both JPN and KOR finish in top 8 (and Iran doesn't pick this weight) Adamus of Poland can change everything if he gets good results in world juniors and grab the European quota. the ranking website is down once again, so I have no idea about the African weightlifters.
  21. oh well . that was a very sad end for Moradi's Olympic hopes. he lifted 170kg, got 3 white lights, but Jury rejected it. he came back and lifted that again but injured his hand while he was going to drop the weight can't remember the last time I was this sad about a sport event. he went through 2 surgeries, tried hard for a year for this. got injured again in training. still came here to make the cut, again injured. this is probably the end of the road for him
  22. I can confirm this part. if Japan fails to qualify 4, all of their weightlifters will be removed from the ranking. that will make lots of changes from the official document In case the Host Country (Japan) does not qualify 4 quota places (World + Continental Points),athletes from the Host Country (Japan) are removed and the Absolute Ranking is updated
  23. Japan has 3 quotas guaranteed in each gender. if they wanted more they had to qualify 4 through the ranking. that's what they will do in the men's section. I think even if they qualify 3 that's like doing nothing, they will remove all Japanese weightlifters from the list and then they can pick 3 as "host"
  24. oh I forgot she is even there ! here are the results
  25. nowhere ! but I have them all. (took a screenshot from the live stream) which weight do you want ?
