  1. it always takes time. but I think maybe this is taking longer here. I'm not sure though. the whole process is stupid. when a coach wants to challenge, he had to call the referee, tell him the whole story (while most of the times it's obvious what they are protesting about) and then that referee again had to repeat all he heard for the jury .that alone takes a minute.
  2. that was a dumb move by Alessio, yes he scored the winning point. but if he couldn't touch the head while in the air, he would lose the contest by that caution for falling. (while he probably had the superiority to win in case of 0-0) btw whenever they want to watch the video challenge, you can take a nap . sometimes it takes more than 5-6 minutes.
  3. no Olympics for the biggest nobody ever. I thought this will be the last Olympics for Aaron Cook but he is 30. so he will be around at least for Paris 2024. this guy is probably one of the most famous athletes in the history of this sport but only because some media some media made him. he won only 2 bronze medals at the World Championship and despite participating twice still no Olympic medal.
  4. mostly in lower weights, specially the lower weight. 49kg/58kg maybe because they move more lol but if you check heavier weights results, they are the same old names again and again
  5. all of 4 former Iranians are already out and they are losing to everybody. only Pouryounes managed to not lose in the first round but she just host her QF to Romania. but Israel has a good chance to qualify in women's 49kg, (one of the weights we are going to send a competitor to the AQT) and she looked very good, dominating the 1st seed from Russia. but still it's too early to think about that. none of them are even qualified yet.
  6. someone who just cared about the number of NOCs in the Olympics ! I understand the logic about limiting countries in the continental qualifiers. it's not good to see a country winning all quotas in its continent. but still limiting each NOC to just 1 is terrible. it should be 60/70% of the quotas. in this case 3 or at least 2.
  7. 13th ! they had to participate in Final C ! but it was cancelled because there was nobody else lol and there is 50% chance for Kuwait to have a quota in this sport by finishing last ! perfect
  8. assuming Japan will pick LM2X and LW2X (that just make sense) here is the rest LM2X: LW2X: M1X: W1X: that last quota depends on Iran! if Iran picks M1X. qualifies for W1X and if Iran picks W1X, will qualify for M1X !!!!!
  9. it depends on Japan and Iran I think only these boats are 100% qualified. the rest depends on Japan and also Iran and their picks. LM2X: LW2X: M1X: W1X:
  10. it was hard to understand the ranking from that terrible live stream but Japan won all 4 gold medals here. Iran finished 3rd in LW2X and 2nd in M1X and W1X. that was all for nothing. they could still win that lone quota even if we had a boat in Final B! so I guess it's up to our federation to pick Bahman Nasiri or Nazanin Malaei. they would pick LW2X to have more athletes in the Games but I think they can't.
  11. first session of the day: M1X Final A: Final B: 13th place: W1X Final A: Final B: 13th/14th places in order: ================= the only country with one boat in Final A is TPE. which means TPE is already qualified in W1X. we have 16 NOCs left (had 17 but the guy from KSA didn't continue after the heats) and 16 boats will qualify for the Olympics. which means if no country wins 2 golds or more, all 16 NOCs may qualify a boat. (terrible rule though) but that's unlikely because of Japan.
  12. that was hilarious, you can say so many bad things about UWW about not promoting the sport but not this one. 90% of those so called refuges are Iranians and all of them are fake. they are legal migrants (moved to Europe because of poor economical situations here) but later changed their status to "refugee" because that was their only way to participate. (obviously in some countries they don't give you a passport right away and without a passport you can't represent that country) and some of them are not even good. they are part of this "refugee team" just to get some easy money from IOC! UWW solved that problem long time ago. you can participate at the Worlds/Continental events without even being a citizen. Abraham Conyedo won a World bronze for Italy long before being an Italian citizen. that's mandatory only for the Olympics. PS: UWW also has this stupid refugee idea, but at least that's limited (probably only to real refugees) there is a guy I don't know maybe from Iraq or Syria who will participate on Saturday (and will lose in the first round or the 2nd round)
  13. @phelpseven if Frank Chamizo is not famous in Italy but he thinks he is famous in "Teheran" ! https://www.instagram.com/p/COfeWRhM3Fe/
  14. Whoever wins the bronze from his side. there will be repechage and bronze/gold medal matches tomorrow
  15. UWW requires 2 years of inactivity BUT only official tournaments count (Worlds, Continentals) these guys usually think about switching to another country when they fail to make Russian team for 2 years in a row so that's not a problem for them.
  16. oh man, what a defense by Makoev !
  17. Takatani looks like a complete different wrestler today ! less than a month ago he lost to a random Chinese wrestler
  18. 1st day summary, they are sorted by their time. LM2X Final A: Final B: LW2X Final A: Final B: M1X SF A/B: 13th place: W1X SF A/B: Final C: -------------------- Japan had the best time in all 4 events. even though we can't compare times from different heats. Iran probably has its best team here but unfortunately the rules will limit Iran to have just 1 boat qualify. I don't think two of them can win the gold here. W1X maybe but the rest looks unlikely. just for fun. it that was the final ranking, I assume Japan would select both LW2X and assumed Iran and Vietnam will pick LW2X LM2X: LW2X: M1X: W1X:
  19. they just removed that from the rules. only participating in Period 1 and 2 is mandatory. Period 3 A and B both could help you to collect more points but that's not mandatory anymore.
  20. IWF Olympic Ranking is now fully updated, they added Pan-Am results too @Griff88you heard the news ? Eko Yuli Irawan is now safe and qualified. I wonder if that changes anything for Li Fabin of China. probably not.
  21. Summary of the day 57kg: absolutely no surprise (which is surprising itself ) these 4 were expected to reach the SF. I still pick Takahashi over the Cuban. but for the bottom half now i have more doubts about the Mongolian. he almost lost to Davidovi (ITA), Edisherashvili wasn't very impressive himself. it will be 50/50. 65kg: as far as I remember this guy Kilicsallayan is ranked #1 or #2 and he always loses ! I have to check some records to see when was the last time he achieved something. he had the dream draw but lost to France despite 8-0 lead ! the French guy himself lost 10-0 to Habat ! and now David Habat only has Greece on his way to the Olympics. it won't be very easy but I expect the American born Habat to qualify Slovenia (maybe for the first time in this sport ?) bottom half was interesting, Bekbulatov failed to make weight (which is unbelievable) Oliver (USA) and Gadzhiev (POL) will wrestle for the quota. Oliver was poor today, he won his matches by the narrowest possible margin. I pick Gadzhiev with his ultra defensive style. he is boring though. also no Olympics for the 2016 Rio Gold medalist Khinchegashvili who was COVID positive, his replacement Lomtadze (a world champion himself) lost to Gadzhiev on cautions. 74kg: oh well Israel in the SF, that's a bad news for our guy in this weight. that's not surprising he had an easy draw, I was expecting Armenia to stop him in the QF but he lost to Greece! still the American guy of Israel will be underdog against Ukraine but that won't be easy and he can qualify. in the bottom half, two Russian wrestlers will fight for the quota, for Slovakia or Belarus. Tsabolov lost to Demirtas and Demirtas himself lost to KadiMagomedov. Salkazanov was my early pick but I'm not sure anymore. I think it will be 50/50. this guy KadiMagomedov is like a snake. very dangerous. 86kg: Baranowski was my early pick and after a poor start, he finished the morning session strongly, now he will face Takatani of Japan who was impressive today (after failing to qualify in the last seconds in Asia) I still pick Baranowski but the today version of Takatani is very dangerous. we had lots of close matches in the bottom half and Makoev managed to beat the Cuban to face Abakarov (AZE) for the quota. my pick was Aminashvili who lost Abakarov, lost lots of points on his own attacks and was in a very bad shape. it will be a close match but I think Makoev has the upper hand. 97kg: I was expecting 3 of these guys to be here and the 4th guy isn't really a surprise. I was expecting more from Baran (POL) but probably wrestling at the European Champs was a bad idea. he had a close match with Saritov, back and forth and finally Saritov scored a very nice 4pts throw for the win. I think Conyedo will be favorite against Bataev. but battle of two grandpas Andiitsev and Saritov is a little hard to predict. I pick Saritov but Andriitsev looked really good today. how old is he anyway? he looks 50 but a fresh 50 125kg: Kozyrev won the early final against Baran, at some point it looked like the Polish guy is going to win but then Kozyrev changed gear in the 2nd period and won the match 7-1. I think Ligeti will be too easy for him. bottom half was wide open and now we have IND and VEN wrestling for the quota ! Diaz (VEN) beat Azerbaijan 3-3 and Sumit of India had to come back from behind 3 times to reach here. he won his first 2 matches 2-2 while scoring the winning point in last few seconds. I think it will be close but the Indian is slightly the favorite. both guys are fat but very strong.
  22. Umarpashaev executed exactly the same technique (he did few weeks ago in Hungary) on Salkazanov and scored 4. but then ran out of gas to lose it 6-4.
  23. after the first round, still no big surprise but I have to say both Polish wrestlers I was expecting to qualify were disappointing despite the win and it seems we have lots of American-born wrestlers in the competition, for Italy, San Marino, Israel, Lebanon. Puerto Rico, Colombia etc. some of them aren't necessarily good.
  24. and finally quota for in the men's K1-1000. also easily wins the men's C1-1000
