  1. Our first ever world Championship bronze in wd
  2. Yes...... We see to have many vickys, ravis etc.... May confuse some opponents, expecting one vicky and the other comes along....
  3. Vicky chahar is the better known of the two, was earlier wrestling in 92 in seniors......Bronze at Cadet Asian in 2016, Won Senior Asia silver 2019 in China. He has also won Bronze in Junior World Championship 2019 Tallinn Estonia aug, 2022 Asian bronze.... Vicky hooda who is selected for 92 is almost unknown but wrestled well in trials but the opposition was very week...
  4. Vinesh Phogat, who completed a hat-trick of gold medals at the Commonwealth Games earlier this month, was up against newly-crowned U20 world champion Antim Panghal in the 53kg final. Vinesh Phogat won a bronze at the 2019 world championships and will seek her second medal at the 17th edition of the world championships to be held from September 10 to 18. In the absence of Rio 2016 bronze medallist Sakshi Malik in the 62kg category, two-time cadet world champion Sonam Malik claimed the slot by defeating Manisha 2-1 in the final. Sonam Malik, 20, had bagged a silver medal at the recently-concluded U20 world championships but is yet to win a seniors medal . Sarita Mor, a world championships bronze medallist and the world no.1 in the 59kg weight division, sealed her spot in the 57kg by defeating Lalita 4-0 in the final. Another worlds bronze medallist Pooja Dhanda, meanwhile, was stunned by Mansi Ahlawat with a 2-0 defeat and conceded the 59kg spot. Mansi Ahlawat, has been in top form this year and won gold at Almaty Ranking Series in June without losing a point in the championship. Asian championships bronze medallist Sushma Shokeen pipped Pinky in the 55kg on the virtue of scoring the last point after the bout was tied 3-3. U20 world championships silver medallist Priyanka (76kg) and bronze winner Reetika (72kg) were among other names to make the cut for the world championships.
  5. Indian team finally finalised Freestyle Team: Ravi Kumar Dahiya (57kg), Pankaj Malik (61kg), Bajrang Punia (65kg), Naveen Malik (70kg), Sagar Jaglan (74kg), Deepak Mirka (79kg), Deepak Punia (86kg), Vicky (92kg), Vicky Chahar (97kg), Dinesh Dhankar (125kg). Greco Roman Team: Arjun Halakurki (55kg), Gyanender (60kg), Neeraj (63kg), Ashu (67kg), Vikas (72kg), Sachin (77kg), Harpreet Singh (82kg), Sunil Kumar (87kg), Deepanshu (97kg), Satish (130kg). A few suprises.... Pankaj malik a relatively unknown wrestler defeated the feted rahul aware in final of the selection, surprised not to see gaurav baliyan in 79 FS...
  6. It is great to see both sania and bopanna are still doing well.... But sad no new comers are even coming close
  7. The Indian federation has said that barring bajrang , Ravi and Deepak for all other weights and for all women they will hold a new selection trial on 29th and 30th of aug so all the names except those three may change for India ....
  8. Indian interests will be to see Ravi in 57 with ugaev absent i will be hoping to see gold in 57 ..... If he does it that will be huge our first gold since sushil at least 12 years ago i think ...... In 61 no indian in seeded 8 but still so much talent will be hoping for an upset but In 65 we except a sure medal with our oly bronze bajrang but he has not been in great form so will wait and see .... In 70 i would say india maynot do well ... In 74 we are still looking for a long term spotholder In 74 we have wealth of talent will not be suprised to have a suprise medal ... In 79 gaurav baliyan has been touted as the next big thing in Indian wrestling would need to see if he is improving a medal prospect ....ranked 8th..... In 86 Deepak punia is of course a big name , silver last time because of an easy draw in 2021 .... This time with with Taylor and yazdani in two halves no chance for him to get in the finals but yes chance of a medal .... In 92 i was suprised to see viky ranked 5th .... @MHSN i did not think this guy was good but obviously has improved his ranking , would like your opinion on this
  9. Yes I am looking forward to all three matches in the higher weight categories though will miss the formidable sadulaev in 97 ...... And also am going to follow the giant Geno hopefully to gold in 125 ....but the Iranian Zare can stop him ...... It is in the lower weights that India will do well .....
  10. As usual you rock in your observations ....
  11. Great job by Iran as usual ..... India did very well this time with 16 medals ( on total medal count the same as Iran but well behind on gold medal count ) ..... After following Indian wrestling for the last 20 years can see huge +ve trend in India , we used to average only 2-3 medals till five years ago ...... I personally thought Priya( 76 kg silver ) and reetika ( 72 kg bronze ) in women along with antim ( sole gold medal winner for India ) in the lower weight categories may soon definately start moving into the main team , also an indian wrestler lost to Iran in the 125 free finals , @MHSN do you feel he is good ? ..... 125 free we do not have any good wrestlers , i also thought Sagar jaglan in 74 is someone look for in future ......
  12. This guys penis came out in the middle of the race Athletics U20 Championships due to a wardrobe malfunction. 18-year-old Alberto Nonino, who hails from Italy, was competing in the 400-meter of decathlon in Cali, Colombia when the incident took place. Alberto Nonino started off extremely well by gaining pace against his competitors, leaving the bystanders under the impression that he might win the race with quite ease. However, after Nonino passed the middle lane, he looked uncomfortable and kept reaching down to hold his crotch a couple of times. He came last ??
  13. Wrestling stopped because a light almost fell on the mat chairman .... Ouch
  14. India at the Commonwealth games 2022 *post 1 of 2 by Nitin Sanker* With the commonwealth games starting today ,thought I would have a quick look at India’s likely performance at the games. *History* CWG has been India’s best multi-games event amongst the big three - Olympics , CWG and asian games In the last 3 editions of CWG we have finished 2nd -2010 , 5th -2014 and 3rd -2018. In 2018 we finished with 26-20-20 , a total of 66 medals . This time things are more difficult for India primarily because shooting which gave us 7 golds ( out of 26) in the last CWG edition have been dropped shockingly from the games. *So can india recover ?* . let us have a quick look at what the numbers may be. *Wrestling* India has seen a great improvement in wrestling and this should be our number one event in terms of both medals and gold medals at CWG. In mens freestyle the competition is weak and with Ravi , Bajrang and Deepak punia as gold medal prospects and a slightly unproven group of mohit , naveen and deepak deepak as sure medallists . we should in my opinion get 4-5 golds and 6 medals in mens . In Women’s freestyle the competition is better with Nigeria quite strong - odunaye in 55 kgs ( a world championship medallist ) and blessing in 68 ( Olympic silver ), but I would say we have a great team : Vinesh ( world championship medalist ) , Pooja ( U23 world silver medallist ), anshu ( world silver medallist) , sakshi ( Olympic bronze ) I think we have the fire power to get 3-4 golds and again 6 medals ….. so wrestling 7-9 golds and 12 medals *Weightlifting* Competition in weightlifting is tough with England , Nigeria in women and Malaysia in men. With 15 Indians ( out of 16 medals ) in the fray , weightlifting should be our second best sport. Of course our Olympic medallist Mirabhai Chanu , bindyarani , punam yadav, purnima pandey in women and jeremmy lalrinuga, achanta sheuli , ajay singh in men are likely gold medalists , there should be 5 golds and 10 medals or so for us in this a sport we have always done well at the CWG. *Badminton* India being the current Thomas cup champions for the first time ever , Indian badminton should shine bright at the CWG , with likely golds in mixed team , PV Sindhu , Lakshya and Kidambi in mens singles ( with singapores Loh kean yew as a possible spoil sport ) and possible medals in all the events we can say 2-3 golds and 5 medals as a reasonable prospect for us *Cycling* We have never medalled in cycling , this time we have a formidable set of opponents in England , Australia , Malaysia ,Canada and Trinidad . We have some great cyclists in Esow alben , Ronaldo etc but cycling alas still may be a bridge too far *Gymnastics* Again despite some good gymnasts in pranati nayak and satyajit mondol we may at best aspire to a final appearance possibly in womens vault at best *Swimming, diving and triathalon * Despite many national awards coming crashing down in the last couple of years, the competition in swimming is so good if we reach a final we can consider it a great performance with srihari nataraj in backstroke being our best prospect *lawn bowls* A sport virtually unknown in India but in the last edition we had 3 QFinalists so maybe, just maybe a medal That covers *half of the sports we will be competing in* , please share this in other groups and I will post Indias chances in the remaining half of the sports including boxing , athletics etc tomorrow
  15. Great world champs for India .... Of course neeraj Chopra's silver in javelin is only our second medal ever ( and first since 2003) ..... But also to have 6 finalists was a first .... I think a couple were even medal possibles if they had hit their PBs ..... But still a great event for us ....
  16. A rare shotgun medal for India .....
  17. My perspective ..... For example you say india was a bad host .... But India did not drop any sports which were being normally played at CWG ..... I do not have any problem if a country adds a sport ( especially an Olympic one which their fans have an interest in ) my problem is when a country drops one of the usual sports which were reasonably popular among other countries .... Like shooting ... Wrestling of course i know that it is there in Birmingham but it has not been announced in 2026 along with shooting again ? .... The view in India is of irritation that sports which are of high interest to India and of high medal scoring capacity are being dropped ..... If the games are held in India and swimming for instance was to be dropped love to see what the mood will be some of the dominion countries .... Dropping sports like wrestling or shooting which were of reasonable standard and fairly broadly competitive and adding sports like rhythmic gymnastics , judo, triathalon ... Is not a great way to run a multi games event ... And continue to build interest and support in a variety of countries ...
  18. I really feel there is hardly any access to the sport .... nearly every body seems to be army .... need to also build many rowing clubs etc
  19. prannoy is surely going to climb with good form
  20. Suprisingly poor performance of South Korea at the world cup
  21. Youth championship India doing well 1-2-1 and leading the table with lighter weights over .... The lead will shift after the heavier weights come in ..... But good start
  22. Decent performance by india in surprisingly in the 50 m three position .... Two silvers in the individual ..... Gold in the mixed and silver in the women's team ...... With gold in the women 10 m team 2-2-1 second overall currently ..... Good perf considering the pistol and shotgun teams were not here
  23. Rowing .....at least participating in the world cup .....sailing some improvement but will be in the 20-30 ranking need to have a major breakthru
  24. Great ..... Hope they stop GB from pretending to be 10 countries at the CWG ......
  25. Your logic is impeccable .... Can you now use the same logic to explain how shooting where 38+ countries participated where every event had 30 countries participate is dropped ..... And why rhythmic gymnastics which has like 4-5 countries participate is added .....
