  2. A group of powerful countries invaded a less powerful country , occupied it for 12 years or so , killed 600 thousand civilians , executed its president .. . This was in 2003 ....Poland was one of the countries do you think Poland should have been banned .....
  3. The question is should a country banned for the invasion of another country ....if the answer is yes Then yes israel should be banned , not just for 2023 but for 2014 , 2004 etc invasions of gaza Usa should have been banned for 1989 invasion of panama The 2001 invasion of Afghanistan ( for not giving up Osama bin laden ) The 2003 invasion of Iraq ( for hypothetical weapons of mass destruction ) also great britain , Australia and Poland Saudi arabia for the invasion of yemen Etc etc .... My answer is no do not ban any country ... Keep sport away from the wars .... This is unjustified to ban any country .....
  4. India has a chance of medal in only mixed rifle .... But this is an event we have won a silver in 1/4 world cups ... So slim but decent chance as we will have two teams
  5. Will be happy to be part of 2,3 ...
  6. For me one of the main points of interest in the Iranian contingent ....would be to see whether one of my favourite wrestler Hassan yazdani becomes the greatest Iranian Olympian by winning another gold without Taylor there his chances should be excellent I feel ....
  7. What is your plan for the podcasts during Olympics
  8. Out of curiosity....Rohan boppana in tennis was ranked 1 or so ...how do you fix tennis doubles for world championship medals
  9. Makes history...... As nepal at least last 4-5 Olympics and maldives has never had a direct qualifier at the Olympics....
  10. India I will try to be as scientific/ disciplined as possible to avoid over estimating chances for india which I have done in both tokyo and the disaster ( for india) which was Rio... So first I set a minimum criteria for performance - world Championship medal this Olympic cycle or Asian Games gold / silver ( only for sports where asian standard is high) or world ranking top 3 . After that try to a % chance to eliminate absolutes . If done then in alphabetical order 1. Athletics Javelin : Neeraj chopra ( wch G- 23 S -22, world rank 2 ) .... Medal chance -75% ... Gold chance - 50% We have no one else, (not counting AG at all as level is overall low ) 2. Archery... Men's team... Ranked 2 , also AG silver.... Medal chance 25% 3. Boxing We have won 2G , 4 B in wch .... But this was AIBA with many boycotts... 50 kg.... Nikhat ( double world champ) .... Medal chance... 75% , Gold chance... 50% ... 57 Kg.... Manisha who won the bronze in wch is not there , but the new girl parveen is there who has won a medal in wch in non Olympic weight .... Medal chance... 25% 76 .... Lovlina .... Reigning world champ, AG silver, Medal chance... 50% , Gold chance 25% Men's ( we do not have a quota yet so this subject to them winning quota) 51 - amit phangal.... Deepak bohria won wch bronze but it will be amit at the last qualifier and i think he can win quota he is AG gold and world champ silver.... Medal chance 25% 71 Nishant bohra... Wch bronze if he gets quota in last qualifier.... Medal chance 25% 4. Shooting We have won 21 quotas second after china but this is a sport where we have underperformed last two Olympics ... But will combine the events events.... Based on the criteria drawn 8 events meet them ....10M rifle ( M and W) , 50M 3 positions ( M and W) , mixed pistol , 10m pistol ( W), 25M pistol W, Skeet M .... 33% chance in each for medal, 15% for gold each event.... 5. Wrestling 50 kg W... Vinesh AG gold and 2 time bronze wch... Medal 50% medal 53 kg W... Antim... Current world Championship bronze... 50% medal 57 kg W.... Anshu silver in wch... 25% medal 76 W - reethika, 56 M Aman do not meet criteria but since both are u23 Gold medallist can consider wch medal equivalent - 25% medal chance 49 kg W .. Mirabhai chanu, world rank and world champ silver 2022 ... Medal chance... 50% ... Chances would be higher had she not been recovering from injury Oops almost missed Badminton. . Men singles won 3 world Championship medals.... Medal chance... 25% Men doubles... World chmpionship medal and world rank top 3 .... Medal prospect - 50% and gold -25% Total - Gold - 2.5 ... Between 2-3 Medals - 8.9 - between 8-9 Ha Ha....maybe gracenotes can steal my analysis
  11. Do you feel that sudeep Or jaideep have a chance in tomorrow events?
  12. That is a huge huge relief..... Tomorrow we still have 2 in play but tough.... Sujeet has a chance...
  13. If we do not qualify a single male wrestler it will be a complete national disaster..... We have had male wrestlers in every Olympic since the 40s i guess.... ( I think we had a break in 76 ) ....
  14. Nisha has edge in semis.... But if she loses she will have difficulty aginst either hristova Or zhou.....
  15. @MHSN your analysis as usual awaited now that draws are out
  16. India for quite a long time has monopolised the South Asia qualifiers.... As we won a team quota in both men and women it really opens the way for our neighbours to really get into the Olympics for the first time.... I guess we may have some male qualifier from nepal and woman from srilanka
  17. In the road to Paris 🇨🇿 is showing a score of 3:11.98 in mixed....
  18. Actually in the first round we had a similar schedule and ramesh our best male relay runner, cramped up in the men's which he ran an hr after the mixed... So we decided in the repechage runs to drop the mixed and focus only on men's and women's.... I think ramesh may be ok.... But this close runs I think could increase chance of injury.....
  19. Great news for India 🇮🇳... The men's relay team for India who had finished 5th at the world Championship and broken the 3 minute mark several times was expected to qualify .. The only uncertainty was that Rajesh ramesh who does the anchor leg often had pulled out in the prelims of men's ( he had run the mixed). So it was a relief to get through The women's was going to be iffy.... So it was great news for India.... We did not take part in the mixed to ensure these qualifications... Do not understand the logic of world athletics.....
  20. I was actually expecting a surreptitious mail .... Pssst TO has been raided, come down the street to turtlely olympics..... ( like it happens when my bar gets shut down by the police) But so happy with Olympics round the corner that TO is back.... Thanks Sindo must not have been easy ro reset so fast.... You rock bro 🤜
  21. I was amazed by our women shotgun shooters... This was always Indias weakest segment in shooting , till now if my memory serves me right we had only one women shotgun shooter qualifying ever in shotgun ... Shagun in 2012 .... Now we have 3/4 quotas.... That is amazing good....
  22. Maheshwari..... What an achievement..... India did so well to almost catch up ( 21 quota places) with china not going to win any more quota places to add to their .....( 22 quota places ) .....
  23. Let us then move on recurve sunday.... Well recurve is the Olympic event and of course it is the koreans who are dominating........ First *mens team* .... India vs the much storied Korea team... In an astonishing game India thrashed the koreans 5-1 .... *Gasp* a gold in recurve Then India was up in the bronze match in mixed pairs against Mexico.... They won 6-0 to give us a second medal in recurve Then *women's individual* deepika kumar who had beaten a korean jeon in the QF was up against a second korean Nam in the SF .. . And it was expected the korean would take revenge but deepika was superb and won 6-0.... On to the finals and yet another korean was there lim... Would deepika decimate the entire korean team one after the other.... But alas not be and Lim won gold and deepika the silver.... But 🤩🤩🤩🤩 wow... Three medals in recurve 1Gold , 1 Silver and 1Bronze in recurve Sunday...... *Yes what a world Cup.. . Best performance ever at archery world Cup by India at least as per my memory.... 8 medals ( 5G, 2S, 1B out of 10 events)* ......
  24. India at the hyundai world Cup@shanghai.. Pretty much all countries were here at the first world cup of 2024 First compound saturday 1. The *women's team*.... This team of aditi our 16 year old world champ, the superb vennam 'the venom' surekha and parneet kaur is super dominating the world and they thrashed an experienced Italian side 236-225 2. Then the *men's team* also wrapped up the Netherlands team ( including world no 1 in style schloesser) in style 238-231 3. Then it was a close fight in the *compound mixed pair* with estonia siblings the jaatmas hanging tough but abhishek and vennam were able to eke out a slim 158-157 4. Then it was *women's individual final* with vennam against an in-form becerra of Mexico.... Vennam was below her wonted best with a 146 in the finals but becerra blew a 2 point lead with a last shot 8 .... Then again vennam shot a 9 but becerra also shot a 9 and vennam won the gold on closer distance.... 4 golds 5. Then it was priyansh against nico of austria against priyansh in *mens individual*... Nico shot a. Perfect 150 and won over priyansh who shot a good 147 .... So india ended compound saturday with 4 golds and 1 silver in 5 events.... . Dominated the world... What a performance from our world beating compound team
