  1. That's pretty much how I feel. They also made it clear there won't sell names for the Coliseum, Rose Bowl and Dodger Stadium. As an aside, I remember in 1984, the torch relay was funded/organized through corporate sponsorships and that didn't sit well with the Greeks. Also, anyone could run 1 KM leg on the relay if they donated $3000 to certain designated charities.
  2. Douglas’ leg was the difference from last year. And Walsh and Huske had the two fastest reaction times of anyone else in the field — .10 and .05. A little too close for my comfort when you’re 3 seconds ahead, but it worked. Correction - Anna Elendt had a .08 and Hirai for Japan had a .00. Still though, faster reaction times for Walsh and Huske from last year. And still, why can Smith beat McKewon only on relays?
  3. I know all about the nolympicsla (and Jules Boykoff) and their views. I had not seen someone demand cancellation of the Games because they believe Trump will turn them into something worse than 1936.
  4. I've only seen people like right-wing provocateur Charlie Kirk and Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) who have demanded the Games been taken away from Los Angeles. This is the first liberal view I've seen.
  5. Cancel the 2028 L.A. Summer Olympics https://share.google/km859YR5uuzc4J8M5 Not my viewpoint, mind you.
  6. The late afternoon/early evening start times for athletics and swimming is to accommodate USA East Coast prime time. They don't want those events starting at 11:00/midnight in New York. It was the same way in 1984.
  7. I'm late to the thread and maybe someone else said this, but the minute I saw this, my reaction was Great, a second relay for men to muff the baton exchange.
  8. George Foreman, 1968 gold medalist and later heavyweight champion of the world has died at age 76. https://wapo.st/4isNPYG
  9. And 1948 Olympic men's champion as well. He was also the TV voice of figure skating in the US for at least 50 years.
  10. When she announced her comeback at age 40, I couldn't help but think about Bill Johnson attempting a comeback at age 40.
  11. Correct.
  12. Katie Zaferes triathlon announces retirement. USA Triathlon | U.S. Olympic Triathlon Medalist Katie Zaferes Announces Retirement
  13. Shades of what it was under Brundage.
  14. I made a mistake on George Rhoden's age. He was actually 97. The first thing I saw about it said 92.
  15. George Rhoden, Jamaica, age 92, passed away on Saturday 8/24. He was the 1952 gold medalist in the 400 m and 4x400 m relay. https://x.com/tvjnewscentre/status/1828158074898522311?s=61&t=eydjQCck_0k3skfK8nEPeg
  16. Good story about tug-of-war’s history at the Olympics. According to this story, it was taken off the program after the 1920 Olympics because the IOC thought there were too many sports in the Games and they wanted to streamline things. http://www.tugofwar.co.uk/olympics-history
  17. As of this morning, everything is still available at CBC.
  18. You’re right, they do, but I have a hunch it might be approved this time, given that LA has this grand plan for swimming, what with a 30,000 + seat venue, and being held in the second week of the Games, and it would only mean 1 extra race per night. More races = more ticket revenue. A slightly radical idea I heard a few years ago is to eliminate the 800 frees. Like when women’s 1500 free was added, they should have dropped the 800 free, rather than add a men’s 800.
  19. But World Aquatics has made a request to add the 50 meter races in the strokes, That would add six races to the program.
  20. The women's team pursuit with those 2 and Chloe Dygert wining a gold medal finally was a top one for me. A few others: the women's team foil, the mixed medley relay. and the 4th qtr of the USA-Serbia basketball semi.
  21. So, it was just done for Women's K-1. Carrington-Csipes-Jorgensen.
  22. Especially happy for Chloe Dygert, winning this gold medal.
  23. I don't know how our lineup compares to others, but I have liked our chances, what with 2 gold medalists and a bronze medalist.
  24. If you are in the US, as far as I know, all the apparatus videos from qualifiers are currently on Peacock, but are not downloadable.
  25. Allman 68.76 after a sector foul on first throw.
