  1. Ironically they were born within 60 miles of each other as Noakes is from south-east England like Coombs.
  2. You seem to be very confused. The scores are determined by the independent officials not the competitors or those associated with them. You've accused the Iranians of cheating but haven't explained exactly how they did this. The officials may have got it wrong but that's not the fault of the Iranians.
  3. How does that make the Iranian archers "cheats"? The officials make these decisions not the competitors.
  4. A pity about Dan Bethell. At least the other badminton final this evening is an all-British match up.
  5. This is where you need Brian Hanrahan.
  6. I hope that isn't a negative comment about Mrs Grassmarket! 😃
  7. The Telegraph is currently having a breakdown after the recent General Election results.
  8. So you did have time but you chose to use it for a different purpose!
  9. It's inseine, particularly after some of the athletes at the OG were left ill after competing in the same water. I know a nice rowing lake they could use instead.
  10. Nerve wracking win for defending champion Phoebe Paterson Pine in the women's ind compound archery event. Needed to get 10s with her last two arrows for a wafer thin 142–141 win. Raining at the venue which isn't making things any easier.
  11. Yes. McLean was just the pilot not the rider who determined the speed of the bike. Indeed Fachie has gone faster with smaller pilots than he did with McLean. The tandem bike can only go as fast as the slowest of the two riders.
  12. Terry Bywater (wheelchair basketball) and Lucy Shuker (wheelchair tennis) are the flagbearers at the opening ceremony. GB has six athletes in Paris with seven or more appearances at the PG. Sarah Storey made her debut way back in 1992, while Jeannette Chippington made her's even earlier in Seoul in 1988. She like Storey and Jody Cundy started out as swimmers before switching to other sports. Sarah Storey - 9 Jeanette Chippington - 8 Jody Cundy - 8 Terry Bywater - 7 "Discus" Dan Greaves - 7 David Weir - 7
  13. Our strength in depth in rowing as opposed to sculls in the Olympics boats looks set to continue with five golds. Hopefully the top U23s can be integrated into the squad as seamlessly as possible once they know which members of the team in Paris plan to continue onto LA.
  14. Just been catching up on some of the finals on YouTube and I notice the Canadian commentator kept referring to the cox as the coxy/coxie (?). Is that what the cox/coxswain is known as in Canada or was the guy I was listening to the exception rather the rule?
  15. Yes, but the person I was replying to is from the UK so that couldn't have been an issue.
  16. Yes, but my point was that there was some coverage contrary to what had been stated and that it has subsequently improved.
  17. I think the problem wasn't so much the number of events but the number of sports which mushroomed from 14 to 22 between Stockholm and Antwerp. The extra costs and organisation of putting on additional athletics and swimming events for example would be minimal. However, taking on eight new sports was an entirely different matter.
  18. Her English seems to be very good but I've no doubt you put your fluent French to good use! 😁
  19. I presume that claim is based on the Australian method of acquiring talent from other countries down the years in various sports. I'm also assuming that's how Australia persuaded Adam Peaty's coach Mel Marshall to move down under following the Olympics. It's certainly not what happened here as the whole process was initiated by the "defector".
  20. Although every pro independence MP in Glasgow was defeated at the recent General Election.
  21. Cassandre Beaugrand the French triathlon gold medal winner is an example of the latter I guess. She's now living in the UK and training in Loughborough where her British boyfriend is based. She feels the new environment has improved her performances and French Triathlon don't appear to have any problem with it.
  22. It was the only sport of the nineteen in which GB competed that they didn't medal in Tokyo. Since they started taking the Paralympics seriously China has been the dominant force in shooting. GB's last medals were way back in 2012.
