  1. One random thought: maybe I am biased because I was there, but I think the logo of these Worlds is one of the best ever. It feels very memorable to me, by far the best we had for a big sport event in Hungary. It feels more timeless than the modern logos.
  2. Heat wave in Hungary atm, currently 34 C in Budapest even at 18:00, thankfully the evening program will start late at 18:40. The heat wave will likely end on Friday.
  3. Well, I am personally not complaining. We got our medal here. We have won 3 gold medals in fencing, 1 in sailing, 1 in swimming, 1 in water polo, 1 in taekwondo and at least one more should be coming up in canoe sprint this year at the Worlds if not more. We are overperforming before Paris in terms of gold medals and Milák isn't even competing. If we would repeat this with Milák also coming back, that would be a 10+ gold medal performance from Hungary in Paris. I hope we aren't setting up ourselves for a disappointment, this year has been "too good to be true" one year before Paris.
  4. Btw, I am not joking, looking at Katzberg's throws again, his age, his body type, if he keeps improving he might be a generational talent. I am not sure where this came from, I feel like very little was said about him before the Worlds. We saw Fajdek coming during the 2010s, this is far more surprising. Looking at his results, nothing indicated that he will throw over 81 here.
  5. One thing I forgot to say about yesterday that I truly feel like we might never win our first gold at the athletics worlds. Pars was destined to do it during his peak era and he won in London and at the Euros, but not at the Worlds, only silvers. Now Halász had a very clear chance, but it wasn't meant to be. Somehow this just continues to be the one World title in all of the major Olympic sports that we can't pull off. Now watch Halász win next year in Paris. But yeah, we might just see Katzberg win every world title from now on for a few years. It's very scary how good he already is at the age of 21. He might be the next Fajdek.

  7. Yeah, I saw that Krizsán was projected 4th on the TV, we are getting the TV feed in the stadium. But once the race was over the official results showed up on the big screen without Vetter and a couple of other athletes, so Krizsán was shown as the third placed athlete. They basically showed an incomplete final result for some reason in the stadium after the race was over, the points of the last few finishing athletes in the second 800m heat weren't calculated. Even the Hungarian Eurosport commentators got confused and started thinking it might be final. You can see it in the broadcast that even Krizsán was kinda confused because the crowd went wild.
  8. Venues are expensive, it is what it is. They made the perfect sized stadium for these Worlds with temporary seats in the upper level and it still cost a fortune.
  9. Back to today's events. I am not sure what you saw on TV, but in the stadium Krizsán was shown as the bronze medalist for 30 seconds, that's why the crowd went insane. I think even Krizsán though for a sec that some miracle happened. They need to be more careful about how they show the live calculation.
  10. Btw, the public transport isn't shit in Budapest. It could be better, but I think it's reasonably fine... for a city of 2 million people. But the Olympics in it's current state isn't fit for a mid sized city.
  11. Budapest wouldn't be able to host anything bigger than this until they build more underground lines. The public transport is struggling even at this WCh, I can't even imagine what it would look like during the Games. The city is simply too small, it would instantly collapse if you throw a huge amount of people in there.
  12. Wow, I completely missed this. World champion Mária Érdi! Another unexpected gold medal for us at the WChs.
  13. Great session and weekend for Hungarian athletics, we couldn't have asked for more. Undoubtedly the best sporting event that I experienced irl. Just a wonderful experience. I will watch the rest on TV.
  14. Lots of spectators avoiding the heat in the standing area. Jacobs will be a one hit wonder, right?
  15. The new medal ceremony format worked really well. Much better than in an empty stadium.
  16. Medal ceremony rehearsal atm. They are "awarding" volunteers instead of athletes. They gave them the WR check.
  17. If I heard correctly, the medal ceremonies will start in about an hour.
  18. Krizsán and Halász will likely deliver our two best results of the Worlds on the same day. Meanwhile everyone is trying to survive here during the break. It's the hottest day of August.
  19. I can confirm that the heat is getting turned up. We will be sweating buckets today, 34 C during the evening session.
  20. The mascot was just shooting some merch at us before the discus.
  21. I was way too tired/lazy to go to the race walk early. Instead I am sitting on a bean bag at the stadium.
  22. Crazy evening, I feel bad for the Dutch.
  23. That was a fun first session, the Hungarian athletes did well enough. Waiting for Fajdek.
  24. Lol, I am getting the impression that the lot of folks here are watching athletics live for the first time. They started clapping right at the start of the heat.
