  1. [hide] 2021-2024 Canadian Athlete Summer Olympic Database Welcome to the Canadian Athlete Olympic Database. Here we will track the performance of Canadian athletes starting from August 2021 (after the 2020 Summer Olympics) until the beginning of the 2024 Summer Olympics. This database will primarily focus on tracking athlete and team performances in Summer Olympic events. Some exceptions will be for non-Olympic events where athletes may seamless transition to an Olympic event just before the Olympics such as different weight classes in combat sports or lead/bouldering events in sport climbing. Each athlete/team who competed at a top level competition such as world championships, world cup/series events, Pan American championships, multi-sport games or other high level competitions will be listed. Click the sport below to be taken to that respective sport's page where you will have access to the athletes/teams. 2. To be fair Russia and the United States had a lot more athletes competing. Even if you remove the athletes in ice hockey, they had double the amount compared to Norway
  3. Here's a table of the top 8 results for each country. For mixed team alpine skiing I gave the quarterfinal losers all fifth place. Along with the 29 nations which won a medal, six more achieved top 8 results; of those only Georgia and Kazakhstan achieved multiple top 8 results with Kazakhstan finishing fourth in one event (plus one 5th and three 8ths). 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th Australia 1 2 1 1 2 2 1 Austria 7 7 4 8 7 7 7 6 Belarus 2 1 1 3 2 1 Belgium 1 1 1 1 1 1 Canada 4 8 14 7 9 11 6 9 China 9 4 2 3 8 4 5 2 Czech Republic 1 1 3 1 2 4 2 Denmark 1 Estonia 1 1 1 Finland 2 2 4 4 3 3 1 France 5 7 2 3 5 4 7 3 Georgia 1 1 Germany 12 10 5 10 7 3 7 9 Great Britain 1 1 1 1 2 3 Hungary 1 2 1 2 1 1 Israel 1 Italy 2 7 8 4 11 5 5 7 Japan 3 6 9 6 6 3 2 8 Kazakhstan 1 1 3 Latvia 1 1 3 2 1 Monaco 1 Netherlands 8 5 4 4 7 4 3 1 New Zealand 2 1 Norway 16 8 13 7 10 7 4 9 Poland 1 2 1 4 1 4 Russia 6 12 14 13 9 7 10 12 Slovakia 1 1 Slovenia 2 3 2 1 3 1 1 South Korea 2 5 2 4 5 2 2 Spain 1 1 1 1 Sweden 8 5 5 7 4 5 2 4 Switzerland 7 2 5 8 3 6 12 5 Turkey 1 Ukraine 1 2 1 United States 8 10 7 11 8 13 15 9
  4. A double DNF... Germany advances to the finals
  5. Yeah I was confused when he said Canada won, had to check the main site.
  6. No surprise, the only other options IMO would be Max Parrot or maybe Steven Dubois
  7. Final day of action, here's hoping for one more medal...
  8. That's just asking for some kind of backroom deal to happen.
  9. Pretty much, it's also the weekend so I doubt any federations will publish today. Equestrian is usually pretty good at publishing so I'll keep an eye on them. I'd also watch sailing and shooting since they will likely have qualifying events in the summer. Some NOCs also publish the qualification documents, but probably won't until after the Winter Olympics.
  10. I've constructed a table of top 8 results, I'll post it tomorrow once the remaining events have finished. Since everyone likes to complain finishing fourth, let's see who has won that count. - 13 - 10 - 9 A very strong performance by Russia to win the battle of "so close yet so far away." One thing you may notice is that these nations are in the top five in terms of medals won so logically, it would make sense that these teams would finish with a lot of fourth places. So I decided to subtract their total with the expected total based on their top 8 finishes assuming even distribution. That gives us a top 3 of... - 3.125 - 1.875 - 1.625 I guess it's official, Russia was the unluckiest fourth place finisher. Finland moves up to second thanks to four 4th place finishes yet not many top 8 finishes. On the reverse side here are the nations which avoided fourth place the best using the same method - -2.625 - -2.000 - -2.000 Fun fact, South Korea did not finish fourth in any event. Italy and Norway were interesting in that they had a bunch of 3rd and 5th place finishes, but not as many 4th places.
  11. Final thoughts One more medal is speed skating. I know a lot of people were disappointed in this sport, but I think they did well. Really the only negative was Bloemen not having a good Olympics. We were close in the two other events, but it wasn't meant to be.
  12. I guess we can rule out the public not caring about sports anymore as a reason why NBC numbers are down...
  13. My fear of implementing a minimum age is that it wouldn't do much to stop this and would in fact allow it to be more hidden
  14. I think the IOC meeting tomorrow will confirm the qualification process for the 2024 Summer Olympics so keep an eye out for them.
  15. Heading for the home stretch and we still have medal opportunities. Men's ski halfpipe and women's mass start will be the events to watch. The 2-woman bobsled is currently in fourth and a medal is possible, but it will likely take a mistake in the top three to secure it. Additionally, the 4-men bobsled begins today which will be our final hope for a medal on the final day. As much as I would love to see our alpine team luck its way into a medal, the bracket draw is very unfavourable and we already didn't have much of a chance.
  16. Damn, I thought maybe Canada could luck its way to a medal given that the best skiers sometimes don't compete, but very unlikely we beat Austria...
  17. Better than setting a 4th place record
  18. Final thoughts Well mission accomplished, we've hit my predicted 24 medal mark with two days to spare thanks to a four medal performance. The only downside was men's ski cross, but that event is always unpredictable. I'm glad Dubreuil won a medal, had a feeling he could sneak into the 1000m podium. Canada is also 4th in the two-woman bobsled though it'll be tough to move up a spot
  19. Seeding isn't the be all and end all in ski cross, especially on the men's side. It's not uncommon to see someone with a mid-20s seed going to semis or even finals.
  20. The media definitely shares some fault for turning a child abuse case into a "she's a dirty cheater" case. The entourage is obviously worse for not only abusing her by giving her a cocktail of drugs, but essentially making her still compete knowing full well the media would attack her all in the thirst for a medal.
  21. Yeah, you can almost consider each rink/club to be its own thing with little mixing. Top players are starting to move around in an attempt to create super teams, but a lot of those moves are done at the rink/club level (as in "over a beer") instead of a national director trying to form teams.
  22. While the schedule is relatively light overall, there's still a lot going on for Canada. Our best medal opportunities will be in freestyle skiing with decent chances in both the women's half pipe and men's ski cross. We also have the bronze medal match in men's curling and I'd keep an eye on men's 1000m speed skating where we have an outside chance. The first two runs of the 2-woman bobsled also begins.
  23. Final thoughts Overall a good day for Canada, we won gold in women's ice hockey and a silver in women's ski cross. We also had a good qualification performance in the men's and women's ski half pipe. The only downside was our curling teams, with the women getting eliminated and the men losing in the semis.
