  1. The main medal focus today will be in short track where Canada will hope to secure medals in the final two events. Men's freestyle slopestyle is another event to watch. Big day for our team events. The women's curling team needs to win both of their matches while the men's ice hockey team faces Sweden in the quarterfinals. In terms of keeping pace with my medal prediction, one medal might suffice, but then we need to win all of our team games, if not we probably need both short track medals.
  2. Final Thoughts Good news is we won our second gold medal and two medals overall. Bad news, that's just about all we did today. An overall poor day in freestyle skiing and our men's curling team lost to Russia, though are still alive. Canada won over China in men's ice hockey, not in a convincing fashion, but they are probably thinking about the game tomorrow. Also a shout-out to the men's biathlon relay for finishing 6th
  3. Canada still controls its destiny, but they will need to beat Great Britain to qualify to the semis. If they lose we'll need favourable results in the Russia/Switzerland/United States games.
  4. It's easy to call for a boycott when it isn't your Olympic performance on the line. Only way it would work is if you get a large majority of athletes to agree to it, including almost all of the top athletes ( )
  5. Just make the event have two rounds, a time trial round where athletes go in reverse world ranking order every 5 or so seconds at a time and the fastest 60 athletes based on their time qualify to the final where their start time is based off the difference from the time trial winner.
  6. Won't 13th place take her place or will they only compete with 11 people?
  7. A potential big day for Canada, it's been five days since we last won multiple medals in one day. If we want to maintain pace for a decent performance we pretty much need to win at least two today. Our best chances will be in men's big air snowboard and women's speed skating team pursuit. Women's big air snowboard has a decent chance and I would keep an eye on the women's freestyle slopestyle and the 2-man bobsled despite our day 1 performance. The women's singles figure skating starts today, but with all the Russians competing it will be difficult for our athlete to medal. Our men's ice hockey team has a rematch against China to enter the quarterfinals, winner faces Sweden. Big day for our men's curling team, they can qualify for the semis if they win both games (the match against Russia is pretty much a must-win, especially if Switzerland defeats the United States)
  8. Final Thoughts Overall an okay day for Canada, we won one medal, but most of the other sports had decent performances in their qualifying rounds, with the exception of 2-man bobsled. We are still in contention for a bronze, but something needs to change for us to have a legit chance. Unsurprisingly, we are in the finals for women's ice hockey. The curling teams had a good day, winning all of their matches, but things are still tight. The men could lose one more match as long as it's not to ROC or else things get very complicated while the women need to win all three of their matches or require many results to go their way.
  9. They might once everything is settled. Definitely not before the closing ceremony though.
  10. Canada may be the favourite, but defensively we haven't been the greatest which the United States could exploit to win.
  11. They could make it a four-person event and force each sled to have 2 men and 2 women and then add men's monobob (or remove women's monobob) The good news is bobsled can probably stay under the radar until Luge/Nordic Combined/Ski Jumping have an even amount of events so hopefully by then the federation would have enough time to establish four-woman.
  12. Thanks to yesterday's snowstorm, only four medals up for grab today. We are in a great position to win a medal in women's monobob and have an outside chance in women's aerials. The day is still eventful as it has the beginning stages for 2-men bobsled, women's slopestyle and both men's and women's snowboard big air along with the women's ice hockey semi-final.
  13. Yeah, I imagine "what to do with a DNF" must be in the rule book so the confusion wouldn't have taken that long. A protest was more likely.
  14. It happened in 2018 in the women's relay. Funny enough, bronze medalist Netherlands set a world record in the B Final.
  15. I'm afraid the IOC will let her compete and then disqualify her later, if necessary. There isn't much time for them to come up with an outcome before the women's singles
  16. Final Thoughts Canada won one medal today in short track, shame it wasn't two, but that's the nature of the sport. I was sort of hoping we could reach the semis in the men's team pursuit, but given Canada's earlier performances it would have been difficult to medal. I think our women's curling team is done while the men's are still in it. We are second in women's monobob, hoping for a medal tomorrow. Our men's ice hockey team finished 5th overall and will play China again. After that our opponent will be Sweden. At least we avoided Finland and Russia, but Sweden and the United States will not be easy games.
  17. Yes, they only do one race. Hope we can convert more South American roller skaters into speed skaters
  18. In terms of medals, Canada has been keeping pace with expectations, but if you were expecting a repeat from 2018 it's understandable as to why you would be disappointed. On the gold medal front things have been pretty bad. We didn't have too many gold medal favourites and the ones that were haven't been cashing in.
  19. Honestly the best I felt we could have done was 4th so maybe it was for the best we finished 5th.
  20. We’ve reached the half way point at the Olympics and Canada currently sits at 13 medals. Going into the games I predicted 24 medals and split them into six categories. Let’s take a look at how they are doing. Freestyle Skiing – 2/5 medals Overall Canada is on pace to achieve this goal. Most of the medals in this event, including the ones Canada is favoured in are in the second week. If things go our way, we may even surpass my prediction. Snowboarding – 5/5 medals Mission accomplished with the two big air events remaining. We can still win 1-2 more medals which would help compensate the other sports should they fall short. Short Track – 2/4 medals Such an unpredictable sport. We could win medals in all four remaining events or win none. I don’t think we will be unlucky enough to go 0 for 4, but we may need a little luck to win two more medals. Speed Skating – 2/4 medals I had such high hopes for this event, but losing out in the men’s 500m will make things a bit tough. The women’s team pursuit is in a good position for a medal, but a fourth one will be harder to find. We’ll see how the men’s team pursuit performs later today, if not it would have to be in women’s mass start, but Blondin didn’t look too good in women’s 3000m and missed the 5000m race altogether. Curling/Ice Hockey – 0/3 medals Team sports have not been good for Canada. Losing mixed doubles curling meant the other curling teams and men’s ice hockey would have to be near-perfect and none of them are making a strong claim for a medal. There’s still a lot of games to be played, but a huge turnaround for two of them is required. The women’s ice hockey team should easily contribute to the total. Other Sports – 2/3 medals Medals in alpine skiing and ski jumping have made this goal much easier to attain. Our bobsled team should be able to win at least one medal, possibly even more which can help compensate the other sports. More medals in other sports will be unlikely. Our best chance would be if the whole team figure skating fiasco gets settled prior to the end of the games (which could happen since there’s a push to get things finished before the women’s singles event) and Canada gets upgraded to a bronze. After that we could luck our way into the alpine skiing mixed team podium or if you really want to push it, the men’s pursuit in biathlon or women’s singles in figure skating (would likely need the entire ROC team to either not participate or mentally breakdown due to the add scrutiny).
  21. Given their play, I think > and > in regular time is very likely to occur. That will give the United States the top seed and the FIN/SWE winner the second seed. Canada will finish either 4th or 5th depending on whether FIN/SWE ends in regular time, but will face the loser in the quarterfinals. The 5th seed will likely face China. Germany will face the winner of Slovakia/Latvia as an 8/9 seed match while the loser will likely face Denmark as the 11th seed (Latvia could be a 10th seed and face if they lose in OT and scored at least one goal). Of course if Germany decides to show up tomorrow things will move around.
