  1. God I can’t even begin to imagine the pressure Sui and Han were under here. That was super close.
  2. It's fine in 4K :P (TBH ice hockey is much easier to follow after having seen it in person)
  3. When you are depending on Edin to make a mistake, you're going to have a bad time. Unless your name is Shuster, I guess.
  4. F that noise, the Winter Olympics don't have enough events. There was a bunch of dead air over the past two weeks. Bring on random new speed skating races, new Nordic events, Telemark, ice climbing, cyclocross, men's and women's doubles *and* mixed four person curling, snow volleyball, cross country running, 3 on 3 hockey, ice cross downhill, snow football and whatever else we can invent.
  5. Genuinely happy for Team Edin, it's the best team of his generation (hard to admit as a Canadian :P ) and it would have been a shame if they never won a gold medal at the Olympics.
  6. Also remember when we kept saying these would be 's best Winter Olympics ever (so far)? Guess what just happened? :D
  7. Well nobody can say Edin doesn't deserve it. Also you can retire now Niklas. Please that's the only way Canada will win a Curling worlds ever again.
  8. Meanwhile I am maximally on board for the X-Gameification of the Olympics :P Though I def want the traditional events to be preserved.
  9. Dude, Kingsbury. Probably the biggest favourite for any individual men's event at these Olympics. Also I'd def argue that collectively Canada was the favourite to win men's snowboard slopestyle, and the women's team pursuit was undefeated this season, and only Japan ever looked like a possible threat (really, to this day, not sure why anyone expected to be competitive in that event).
  10. Oh that I couldn't disagree more about :P (I *love* team events, so that's my bias here).
  11. They are testing banning ticks on stones on the centre line at worlds this year.
  12. Crawford's medal feels like an afterthought because everyone believes the combined is a zombie. A medal in the downhill or super-g would have been a much bigger deal. If renovating Big Thunder, Canada Olympic Park and building training jumps in Whistler comes out of it then it will be worth every single disappointment from the past two weeks.
  13. I mean, in these Olympics Canada under-performed in every sport where we traditionally expect to win medals. The sports where we exceeded expectations have been Alpine skiing, Biathlon, Cross country skiing and Ski Jumping, for a combined two bronze medals.
  14. Edin will never have a better chance to win an Olympic gold than right now.
  15. Must be related to Devin Heroux, CBC's coffee addicted curling reporter.
  16. Eh, I'd say going in Canada was at least equal favourite with Japan there. Certainly a silver was the worst result was ever going to have in that event, baring a fall, a massive under-performance or the speed skating team magically discovering teamwork somehow.
  17. It just doesn't feel like very many things were added to the pantheon of great Canadian Olympic moments. The ski jumping bronze is historic but there will always be an asterisk next to it. Max Parrot winning gold is amazing, but again, it's hard for it to feel like a great Olympic moment due to the judging. The team pursuit gold medal also feels weird because of the fall from at the end. I think there are only really three medal performance that will really be remembered as great moments in the history of Canadian sports years from now: the 5000m relay (being Hamelin's final race), the women's hockey gold and Laurent Dubreuil winning silver in the 1000m after the disappointment in the 500m.
  18. So at this point we can safely say that will end with four gold medals. Some fun stats: this is the least golds won by since Lillehammer 1994, though there were only 67 events there compared to 109 here. This is only the sixth time finished outside the top ten at the Winter Olympics, first time since Calgary. Canada's medal table finish in Beijing matches the medal table finish from the past Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
  19. Hey now, every kid dreams of finishing sixth at the Olympics.
  20. As a unit it's disappointing. Canada won four events they were favoured to win, lost events they were favoured to win and didn't win anything where they weren't the favourite.
  21. Just not very many favourites converting for golds, and none of our half chances converted. Every Canadian Olympic gold medallist was won in an event where Canada was either the defending world champion (or X Game champion for park and pipe events, since the FIS worlds aren't really representative in those events) or ranked number one in the world. I wasn't expecting us to win that many gold medals, but four is just a crushing disappointment.
