  1. really doesn’t deserve to be bailed out by a team that was playing for pride (and ranking points). …still obviously really happy about it. But the team really doesn’t deserve to be in a position where it controls its own destiny vs .
  2. Honestly I think the IOC should ban the kind of selection policies have entirely. Sure if those NOCs want the athletes to self fund the trip that’s fine, but the IOC should insist that the best qualified athletes attend.
  3. The first and fourth set were humiliating.
  4. I really don’t mind that Canada lost, but the way they lost… no fight. It’s frustrating.
  5. Not every year, didn’t watch much sports in 2021, 2022 and the first half of 2023 for “NearPup’s personal life wasn’t going well” reasons, but I did watch VNL (and World League) before that.
  6. Canada's 18th point in the second set was quite the rally.
  7. is picking an interesting time to play their worst game of the tournament.
  8. Thinking more positively - if Canada wins in 3 or 4 sets against I believe they are qualified regardless of any other results. Is that accurate?
  9. It’s not *that* hard to beat Biles on UB, you sort of have to in order to content for a medal :P
  10. is a very nice podium. Lots of great stories here.
  11. This also means that only teams from Asia (and Oceania) will be allowed to bid for 2034. or will probably host next.
  12. The is about to not have a speaker of the House. Edit: the office of speaker of the House is now vacant.
  13. Correct. It's really the only part of this qualification system that I dislike tbh.
  14. Had qualification for the team all around been based entirely off this year's worlds, Canada would have been the last team to qualify for the Olympics.
  15. They definitively went with a very young team. I don't think we can read too much into this result, especially since the stakes were relatively small for this Canadian team.
  16. The men's team qualifies for the Olympics and the team final (!) with a full subdivision to go. Felix Dolci is currently in fifth place in the men's floor and is likely to qualify for the apparatus final.
  17. Ya, didn’t think it was possible for to overtake , but Felix Dolci decided to have a great routine.
  18. Really proud of this Canadian team, I don’t think they could have done much more. First time since 2008 that Canada will send a men’s team, and first time since 2004 that will send a full team.
  19. qualify a men’s team to the Olympics after subdivision 5. are qualified for the team final.
  20. makes the League of Legends final after a 2-0 win over ! They will be the heavy favorite to win gold, which would grant a career-extending exemption from military service to the legendary Faker.
  21. That would require to organize the games or to organize games that aren’t a disaster…
  22. qualifies for Paris. This is a relief.
  23. The League of Legends esports tournament is, unsurprisingly, a complete joke of an event. The format is bad (Bo1 group stages with Bo3 single elimination bracket), it is being played on an old patch and the bracket is very uneven - the de-facto final will be the - semi-finals. The only real reason for fans to care is that the six Korean players (most notable Faker) have a chance to avoid having their careers ended by military service. The Dota 2 tournament has a similar problem with a bad format and the de-facto final being the semi-final ( and are by far the best teams, with likely being the third best team). It's really frustrating just how bad IOC and OCA events are at showcasing esports. There is well over twenty years of expertise on how to run sucessful esports events, but whoever is in charge here is just not willing to learn what makes an esport event work. Everything is baffling, from the broadcast to the venue to the choise of games to the format. (At least the Street Fighter and FIFA tournaments have a somewhat sensible format, so there is that).
  24. Anthony Rota is resigning as speaker of the Canadian House of Commons effective tomorow.
