Can we break the record of 12 qualifications in shooting? Is the current lot better than last time?

Expecting one more quota in 10m Air Rifle Men, 1 in 25m pistol men and women, Trap men.

The current lot is definitely better, especially the women. Have high expectations from Apurvi Chandela, Anjum Moudgil, Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat

  2. BWF World Championships, Basel

Men' Singles - Round of 64

Srikanth Kidambi  vs Nhat Nguyen (rank 81)

Sameer Verma vs Kean Yew Loh (rank 34)

Sai Praneeth vs Jason Anthony (rank 66)

Pronnoy Kumar vs Eetu Heino (rank 93)

All should move to Round of 32

    Women's doubles

Meghana Jakkampudi - Poorvisha Ram vs Guatemalan pair

Should move to Round of 32

  3. Never knew Esow Alben was so good until I saw the junior rankings where he is no 1 and fellow compatriot Ronaldo in fourth. When can we expect them to competing in the top level in Senior. The top cyclists seem to be in mid 20s so is 2024 Olympics realistic target

Yes, it's sad I think it's high time Satwik stops playing mixed doubles and focus on Men's doubles only to have a realistic medal chance at Tokyo. Ashwini can partner someone else maybe Pranav, I may sound harsh here but Siki seems hopeless.

Zhang Nan, practically played with anyone and still won, both in men's doubles and mixed doubles. It is a setback that Satwik-Chirag won't play but they should qualify easily for Olympics. In an ideal scenario, need two pairs in mixed doubles to compete so they can challenge each other and raise their game for the Olympic qualification period.

Only Satwik and Chirag are the best judges whether their bodies can handle the rigours of both men's doubles and mixed doubles

Super excited with the return of Souymajit Ghosh India's youngest TT Olympic player. Hope he will be in top league in a year or two.

His life has been hell and missed one of best phases of Indian table tennis - successes in Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, World Team Championships. Hope he returns as good as before and India can be a genuine force in Men's Team

He currently is playing in Nigeria Open and has reached Round of 64

Instead of all crap; let us focus on the main sports. The rest are all of also-ran type.

    These sports are:

    1. Shooting

    2. Wrestling

    3. Badminton

    4. Boxing

    5. Hockey

    6. Archery

    7. Weightlifting

    8. Athletics

India has traditionally performed well at the Olympics in these disciplines.

The rest like Judo, Swimming, etc. are just a waste of time at the Olympics.

Let's have a guess from the participants about the number of medals we can get.

I disagree with this view simply because we shouldn't measure our sporting pedigree by just medals but with progress as well. We being a developing nation are not able to invest much and with no accountability in various Sports Federations they have become political fiefdoms. Also public and media visibility is less other than for Cricket.

But our mindset has changed in the last decade or so. Earlier, we were merely content with qualification; now we genuinely want to win the tournament. This feeling has seeped in our core sports like Cricket, Badminton, Hockey, Shooting, Wrestling and will slowly come in other sports as well.

With each Olympics our contingent becomes larger but like a large nation like ours its still pathetic but at the same time slow and steady progress

Hi, I assume you guys already heard about the disqualification of Bahraini sprinter Kemi Adekoya which potentially can give India one gold (and a bronze) at the 2018 Asian Games. I checked couple of pages and I see nobody mentioned it here, perhaps you guys don't care about that :d

I wonder if there are news about this in India media about the re-allocation of medals. I'm talking about "actual re-allocation" not possible.

or maybe it's just too early for that because the decision is new and still open for appeal

It has been reported in our main newspaper

  9. The FIE rankings have been updated taking into account the World Championships and Bhavani Devi jumps from 67th to 44th rank and as things stand she qualifies for Olympics as best individual fencer in Asia/Oceania ignoring team qualifications

    Rankings available here

So the Pacific games start from tomorrow. India is indirectly participating in the games for the 1st time.

Broadcast is available on Olympic Channel, TV3 Samoa and YouTube Channels. Indian action is available on youtube the whole day.

How can Indians participate in Pacific Games

  12. After Day 1 of Laser Standard World Championship for Men, the three Indians currently stand at 84th, 101st and 133rd. This is a qualification event for Laser Standard event and five quota places in offer. An additional two places are available in Asian championships.

    https://2019worlds.laserjapan.org/standard/results/

South Korea and Malaysia have already qualified and hope is one of the Asian countries also qualify in this event increasing our chances for Asian championships. Currently Singaporean sailor is ranked 45 and Bahraini sailor is ranked 48 after Day1

  13. The qualification for Fencing is that top 4 ranked teams are  guaranteed qualification and then one team from each continent - Africa, Asia/Oceania, Americas and Europe if they are top in 16. If no continental team is in top 16 then it goes to best ranked team not qualified.

Currently as per team rankings, France, Russia, Italy, USA take the automatic top 4 spots, South Korea from Asia, Canada from Americas, Ukraine from Europe. But things get interesting here. Since there's no African team in top 16 thier quota place goes to China who are ranked 6th. This helps the Indian cause because it frees up the individual quota.

Asia/Oceania will get three individual quotas not qualified in team. So according to individual rankings, Hong Kong (rank - 39), Iran (rank - 62), India (rank - 65) might get the quotas. The closest competitors are Kazakhstan (rank - 75), Singapore (rank - 84)

  14. Any latest updates on Neeraj Chopra's surgery. When is he expected to return?

What are our hopes in qualification for Sailing. Since Japan gets the Host Nation quota and are decent in sailing in Asia which ensures better chances for others. We had bagged medals in Skiff 49er class in both genders and probably can qualify for 2020.

Ironical that Sailing is so underdeveloped in India considering the first meeting of Asian Sailing Federation was in Mumbai

  15. Now that qualification to Boxing events have been released with Asia/Oceania 4-6 quotas per weight class, is the Asian Boxing Championships a good parameter to judge how many Indians would qualify. India ended the event with 13 medals - two gold, four silver and seven bronze medals
