  1. Is it bad that I’m mad at winning silver? Because I’m mad lol
  2. I'm trying to be positive, but seeing how far behind the American's we are in the medal count is depressing (I know that we are back-half loaded, but it's starting to make me antsy). I was hoping to use the Olympics as a positive distraction from being "work force adjusted" (re: government speak for layoffs) and so far its not been much help lol
  3. I'm too nervous to watch! Very proud of them regardless, they've been great representatives for our country and the sport.
  4. I am surprised at being surprised by CBC's surprising decision not to have them on their predictions list (I have no idea what I'm saying, the word has lost all meaning lol) https://www.cbc.ca/sports/the-buzzer-newsletter-canada-2026-winter-olympic-medal-prediction-9.7067424
  5. So far, it seems as though (with the exception on mixed curling) that Canada's pretty much on track / performing as predicted. How are people feeling? I was surprised to find that we were NOT a favourite to win a medal in the mixed relay from several predictions lists, so I'm taking it as a welcome surprise.
  6. Question about the Ice Dancing event. I've seen on social media and now in the news that there is some controversy surrounding the Ice Academy of Montreal and judging. According to a Global News article: Does it feel like the results are being fixed, or are I.AM simply listening to the judges on how to improve? It really does look like P&P have been SEVERELY underscored, the optics are very bad IMO.
  7. It’s been a tumultuous start for Team Canada, and I totally get the disappointment people have expressed in other threads. The COC wants to beat our Beijing count (26), but between injuries to some top medal contenders, a lack of depth in some sports, and chronic underfunding by the federal government, that's going to be a VERY tall order. It's still possible, though! I’ve mapped out a daily medal forecast based on probability. Like others have said, the first two days were always going to be lean based on the event schedule. Things should pick up by the end of this week, and the second week looks even stronger. Full disclosure: I’m a casual fan, so I’m basing this on recent results, seasonal trends, and, well, vibes I guess. What do y'all think? I'll keep this updated as the results roll in. 8. Very much agreed. The team event was an uphill battle from the start. Skate Canada had to make a strategic decision on whether to rest or use Piper and Paul, Canada’s only realistic medal hope in figure skating (which, based on how the judging has been, looks like a long shot). This was basically a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation IMO.
  9. In terms of medals for Day 2, I don’t see Canada adding any to our tally. I think that our best bets are: ⛸️Speed skating - Men’s 5,000m (Ted Jan Bloemen) 🏂Snowboarding - Men’s parallel giant slalom (Arnaud Gaudet) 💃🏼Figure Skating - Team Event These all feel like long shots. Ted has not been up to form this season, and hasn’t been on the podium (please correct me if I’m wrong on that). But, he’s in the last pairing, and was on the CBC prediction list for a bronze medal. Arnaud could build on the WC silver he just won. The figure skating team is probably our best hope for a podium fishing, but would require perfect programs from the team and possibly slip-ups from Italy and Georgia. And I am WAY too nervous to watch curling after today… 🫣
  10. I feel like today went about as expected - some highs and some lows. I wasn’t necessarily expecting a medal, so the bronze was a wonderful surprise. The figure skating team advancing, top 10 in downhill and 2 moving onto the FS slope style final were all highlights. I’m mostly disappointed by the curling and ski jumping; Abigail must be mad to not be in the top 8 and I’m not sure how/if Canada can move on in the curling.
  11. Congrats to Valerie Maltais on getting our first medal! Girl put in the work and it really paid off!
  12. Is it normal for the CBC to have this many ads during the Opening Ceremonies? This seems like a lot.
  13. Hey y’all, just wanted to introduce myself and say hello to the group. Looking forward to nerding out hard over the next few weeks with you! 🤓
