After her fence (and likely swim and ride scores) Asaduskaite is not likely to be anywhere near 10 seconds from the front of the laser run…

Ok so you have Botswana beating GB in men’s 4x4, Dutch beating GBR in women’s 4x4, Emma losing to Friedrich and Caden losing the final. Not sure what to make of French not having a chance of gold but “could medal” so will park that.

Will check back in on those 4 predictions later. I’d be hugely surprised if 2 or more of the above prove to be accurate.

If you’re wrong, you’re buying the entire forum a round right?

I’ll take a mid range lager please!

  2. Thank you for the generosity!

Maybe, although bookies will always set the odds - assuming that they are not idiots - to try and encourage the most betting, rather than necessarily accurate predictions.

So in conclusion, using predictions and the return as a measure of success/comparison is a fruitless task and we should go back to just being pleased with 54 medals?

The thing is that there's no really objective way of doing this.

Everybody views things differently. Some people just view the reigning world champ as automatically favourite. For others it is the world number 1 (not always the same person as the world champ). Some people take a longer view and look at performance over time. Others will make judgement based on 'gut'.

None of those methods is objectively correct. The world champion one might be the closest, but even that is open to outside things - for example what if someone missed those world champs through injury but is fit here?

And then there's just form and fitness during the competition itself.

Very valid, perhaps best odds on bet 365 could be the comparison metric?

Christ almighty, you lot are a bunch of misery guts aren't you?

They were one good lap from the Italians away from gold. Silver is nothing to be sniffed at in a madison.

This forum: Oh no another event ruined with a silver medal.

Disappointing yes, but no reason to tear them to shreds.

Would absolutely hate for them to read any of this.

  6. I'm super late on this, so I'm happy to discount anything already in progress (technically, athletics, Climbing, Swimming, and Golf!).
