  1. Very interesting article... I liked the part where she tells about playing with the fish before they cook it (personally, I would have wailed and throw a tantrum if anyone touched the fish I was playing with ) Also I'm intrigued by the waffers with garlic and honey... although I remember eating something in Prague during Easter which also had dough, nuts and honey. So, I hope you continue enjoying your celebration. Merry Christmas!!
  2. Wow! You celebrate Christmas like we do in Guadalajara in particular... Tonight we have dinner with our family and we open the presents after dinner. Also, kids presents are brought by Baby Jesus, unlike the rest of Mexico where they're brought by Santa Claus or by the 3 Wise Men (of course, until January 6th)
  3. Merry Christmas everyone!! My best wishes for you and the people you cherish...
  4. I'm stepping up to help Wanderer and LDOG with the point calculation of the predictions for Cycling, Swimming and the Miscellaneous Events, since I'm having a few days off work. I'm planning of finishing the results next week. Still I think you shall be patient; it's a hard work filling out each form without mistakes, so please consider that.
  5. I agree... at least one place in each individual event, subject to the athlete achieving an "easier" standard, like what Triathlon or Badminton did in the last Summer Olympics.
  6. We can all go to Ireland... I'll bring a piñata and, we take turns to hit it and after someone breaks it, whoever finds the golden key is the winner Seriously, why not do it like the format many of us suggested... some kind of bracket (with a previous round between me and the Serbs) from which 4 winners go on to the final contest?
  7. Indeed a nice accomplishment for them... hope to see them contending for a spot in PyeongChang
  8. Team Size prediction for Winter Olympic Games 2018 PyeongChang Ski Sports Alpine Skiing (1-2) - Unless injuries or desertion occurs, this is probably the safest bet Mexico has to avoid missing 2018 Winter Games. Sarah Schleper (married to a Mexican citizen for a long time, acquired nationality a couple of years ago) is doing quite well (she finished 3rd today in a FIS Giant Slalom event) and she has actually the A criteria to compete in every event except Combined. She might be joined by Rodolfo Dickson (born in Mexico and adopted by US citizens) who right now has the B criteria. Our girl at YOG, Jocelyn McGillivray (also born in Mexico but raised in Canada) might try to qualify, but despite her decent performance in Lillehammer, her chances are few. Cross Country Skiing (0) - There's one skiier who competed in a couple of races last year (and being the last competitor to finish in both), but I doubt he can improve to achieve at least the B qualification standard. Ski Jumping (0) - A discipline in which no Mexican has competed ever. Nordic Combined (0) - Same as the above. Freestyle Skiing (0-1) - Probably our biggest chance for qualifying outside Alpine skiing is with Robbie Franco, who finished 6th at Slpestyle in the last World Championships, but he still has to start his season. Currently, he covers the eligilibity criteria and if my calculations are current, he holds the first reserve position as of now; so I'm really crossing my fingers so he can get another good performance that puts him in PyeongChang. Two more athletes competed this year, Cesar Rodriguez in both Slopestyle and Halpipe (the letter its "best" event) plus one of our competitors in the YOG, Fernando Soto in Snowboard Cross, but both seem to be way outside the qualification positions. Snowboarding (0) - Sandra Hillen tried to qualify to Sochi in Slopestyle, but she hasn't competed since then. Biathlon (0) - This is one of only 2 Olympic feds of which Mexico is not a member, so of course, no representation is possible. Skating Sports Speed Skating (0) - No Mexicans are currently competing in this discipline, so another blank for us. Short Track Speed Skating (0) - There were plans 2 or 3 years ago to start developing this discipline around the country's ice rinks, but it the lack of funding means this will have to wait for another (couple) Olympic cycle(s). Figure Skating (0-2) - One of the few winter sports in which we have been (irregularly) participating in the past years. This season it seems we have a couple of young talents and long shots for a place in 2018: Donovan Carrillo, who has already improved his PS by more than 60 points to a modest total of 169.15, but he has been steadily improving his skills (I heard that from ISU Junior GP comentators), so if he manages to get some sponsorship he could actually be fighting for the last spot in his event; also another junior, Andrea Montesinos already scored 125.61 at this year's Grand Prix, so as in the case of Donovan, she gets enough resources for her preparation she also could try to go for a qualification spot. Sleigh Sports Luge (0) - Mexico is not a member of FIL, so no chance. Skeleton (0) - We haven't field a competitor to the North American Cup since 2013/2014 season (the same guy that competed for us in Slat Lake), and I don't think he or anybody else is going to compete this year. Bobsleigh (0) - Sadly, the sport in which Mexico debuted (and reached its best result - an 11th place) in the Winter Games will continue iits absence since 2002. Team Sports Curling (0) - Mexico just joined WCF this year , but I think we'll have to wait another 10 years to see if this sport is developed. Ice Hockey (0) - Teams in both genders are already out of chances. Total Optimistic Prediction - (5) Total Pessimistic Prediction - (0) Total Realistic Prediction - (3)
  9. Well, remember 4.5 it's only a scale... anything else depends on other factors. For example, all year round we have been experiencing earthquakes of the same magnitude in my city; yet in the last one, almost everyone heard their houses crack because of the force (we were only 16 kilometers from the epicenter)
  10. What about conducting like this: 1) Preliminary Round: v. ... a quick TISC trivia game where our favorite show host OlympícIRL asks each 3 or 5 random questions about past editions to each... winner goes to next round. Each question may have actually have a value, a la Jeopardy! 2) Elimination Round: Similar to the above, 2 nations answer TISC trivia... pairings according to past TISC point average. The 4 winners go to... 3) Final Round: I like that Deal or No Deal? format, but I think it may have to be slightly altered. Just a suggestion of course...
  11. RIP to every victim of this tragedy.
  12. Finally Argentina lifts the Davis Cup! Congratulations
  13. That's why thousands of them risk their lifes in makeshift rafts to reach Florida and even Mexico. Not to count those who literally escape every other sports competition.
  14. I forgot that... sending Cuban citizens to fight a proxy war on a Soviet command... truly a pacifist leader
  15. Castro was not a leader... he was another one of Latin American CAUDILLO, another of those phony "Statesmen" and "Policiticians" which doesn't even know what a political spectrum is. He was not socialist, because if he was then why he and the top officers of his party had their own personal fortunes in European banks, when a great number of people in Cuba struggling to get medications and other basic supplies... where's the "equality" in that. That's the great lie about Communist & Socialist states... whoever gets the power will use it to benefit themselves, not the community they so loudly claim to serve and protect.
  16. Well he actually slapped the face of the same country that gave him resources for his revolution. Also he lived in luxury for the last 25 years, while most Cubans were condemned to spend their little money on whatever they got... You really need to hear the thousands of Cubans who live in Mexico and tell you stories about people willing to prostitute themselves for a pair of leather shoes (not even designer) or another "comodities".
  17. Indeed some trouble for the Central American countries.
  18. Well, whatever the majority decides it's OK with me... I actually entered the song with the hope of winning and hosting once more, but I'm Ok if in the end other country wins the right to do so. Right now, I was thinking about another minor change to the competition... but I'll wait until this matter is settled first to give my thoughts on that other matter.
  19. I'd like to see a men's pistol event mixing precission with rapidness, similar to Women's 25. However, I don't like that mixed team events that seem to be on the IOC's agenda as of lately.
  20. Jurgen Klinsmann has been (FINALLY) sacked as USA's coach Article
  21. It's a shame to say goodbye to beautiful Lithuania Thank you for sharing with us some of your culture and music @Werloc And @uk12points great promo for the next edition. See you next time in Great Britain!
  22. Once more congrats to Dan and Ireland for their 3rd win!! THANK YOU every voter who make me finish in 2nd place. Also great too see Canada and USA in top 5; and in the case of for not giving points, but you as well as and were my three reserves this time. And to all, thanks for letting me enjoy this edition as much as the others. Of course, due recognition to @Werloc, for his fantastic job as a host. Another trophy for all your dedication and hard work
