  1. Throwing money at sports usually works. Look how GB improved once they got the London OG and started to pile medals from Beijing onwards. They had 1 gold in Atlanta before they shifted the money from public lottery into sports (that system is applied in Poland too).
  2. Mayer with the green light but misses a gate after the jump
  3. Man, I'm sick & tired of this Lakers drama. It only would have been worse if LeBron joined Knicks. Why don't they rename them Los Angeles LeBrons anyway?
  4. Aerials were innovative in the 90s, now they're old school. And too many athletes from China & Belarus are good at it for US media to hype that event
  5. I believe IOC will prefer more events with aerial tricks which are supposedly more fan-friendly
  6. There are only few old school downhillers with Ortlieb-body type left. Paris is one and Feuz after he gained significant weight some time ago. Obviously Svindal too. But the former SG speciallists were simply Downhill guys who didn't have the Ortlieb-body type. Atle Skardal is one and Gunther Mader would have been too if only he wasn't an all-arounder in first place. That's the difference between now & then. We don't have any guys even doing 3 events (minus slalom) after Jansrud ditched GS and Carlo Janka has completely dropped off the boil. Women seem to switch to GS/SG tandem which usually was the most rare. Hell, even Bassino does SG even though she competes in AC. Maryna G-D gave up on slalom since she says she can achieve better results in Super-G. This is a momentum change, Rebensburg & Brignone found success in Super-G after being classic GS speciallists to begin with.
  7. But then people would complain - and they are doing it already - that it's all about gliding when the course is speed-oriented. I've read a ton of negative comments about Lake Louise which is probably the most old school course for women that it's "too boring". Then you have Bad Kleinkirchheim where even peak Vonn struggled, it was so technical and disgusting for a DH.
  8. Speed speciallists are focused on Downhill these days, they try SG but most courses are too technical for them to make an impact so GS converts are doing better and better. Weirather, Gut & Veith are like three top "speed speciallists" who excel in SG but Tina DNF, Gut is off-form and Veith obviously injured. And you can't deny someone like Shiffrin talent. It's like 2 or 4 man bob speciallists which you maybe know better since you're a German. There are some guys who do better in 2 or 4 but some can win gold in both. Shiffrin's body isn't all that ill-suited for SG. She's 1.70m /66 kg. Compare that to DH/SG-speciallist Goggia 1,69m /67 kg.
  9. Yeah, she posted it on Instagram. Vlhova gold medal alert?
  10. IOC rules are different though. Remember Kipketer winning WCh for Denmark but missing 1996 OG?
  11. Shiffrin isn't a classic all-arounder like Wachter or Ertl was. Tina Maze was the last AA skier on the female side and even Vonn only switched to technical events to win the overall. If Shiffrin wanted then she could have won the overall doing SL/GS only. Even Hirscher doesn't do SG anymore because he doesn't have to. The era of all-arounders from 90s/00s will no longer be repeated. Vonn vs Riesch was the last duell of the AA because even Maze only won the overall when Vonn was injured. I used to think Fenninger vs Gut will be the next big duell but it wasn't to be due to injuries. Let's make no mistake, Shiffrin will probably erase Stenmark's record within the next three years. She's 12 wins behind Hirscher but has a better chance of getting to Stenmark first IMO.
  12. And why I should have complexes about Americans? Does he take part in women's PS? Joerg might be World Champion but she'll never have Ledecka's status and White is way beyond her too. It's you who wants Horngacher as the head coach though. You had him all these years and now you still want him back Poor Germany only won 1 gold medal and their fan can't take it
  13. You've misspelled Ledecka's name yesterday too so just how petty are you, mister? Nobody held you accountable for that but since you're taking cheap shots now I'm doing that as well. Learn the name of the biggest snowboarding star before you criticize anyone in this thread!
  14. Aleksandra Shelton (nee Socha) wants to represent at the 2020 OG after getting married to her US boyfriend lately. Apparently our Fed asked the US to pay 43k Euros for the so-called tutelage over the years but US said they don't have such funds so this may drag for a while Socha is a bit past-prime these days but maybe US fencing is having a dire period? Sabre used to be their best event IIRC? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleksandra_Socha
  15. People used to bitch when Maze & Vonn dominated too. It was supposed to be boring. The course wasn't easy due to snow conditions and the fact so many made mistakes. 1/3 of the starters DNF. That is NOT an easy course. Shiffrin is anything but lucky. Patrick Staudacher or Daniela Ceccharelli were lucky, when you have 56 World Cup wins and 4 WCh gold medals at age 23 luck has nothing to do with it.
  16. Everyone made mistakes including Shiffrin & Goggia. The course suited GS experienced girls more than donwhillers like Siebenhofer or even Stuhec. I believe Freestyle skiing drains the talent pool for alpine skiing and this will be a long trend in the future. The era of all-arounders like Wachter, Ertl or Paerson is dead.
  17. Everyone made mistakes, the course was tricky but the snow conditions seemed to catch many if not all of them out. Vonn made a tight turn and crashed through the gate, several others were mere inches from doing the same especially at the gate where Shiffrin missed her turn. Nobody is going to ban the legend, she will go out with the downhill. Shiffrin 4/4 in the Super G this season
  18. Joerg should be thankful Ledecka loves alpine skiing more than snowboarding right now. I guess it's up to the challenge. She might be the World Champion but Ledecka is still the one that gets talked about the most
  19. Strange from someone living in Argentina? One can say rugby is 70 mins of people laying on the ground and 10 mins running
  20. Let's face it, gospel & Maroon 5 which looked like grumpy old men tbh. Katy Perry & the dolphins set the standard and this wasn't even close! It really suits the NFL hype that in a season which broke so many offensive records we had the fewest points in SB history! That 54-51 MNF showdown looks so epicly hilarious right now. Defense STILL wins the championship!

  22. I believe every WCh have a different graphics to World Cup since 2011. Val d'Isere 2009 was the last time they used the same theme IIRC.
  23. He was 1/2 of Outkast though the one who had less lyrics HT show is trash. As bad as the 1st half which is quite an achievement.
