According to multiple news reports only 55 of 366 British athletes will attend the Opening Ceremony parade of nations, citing winning Olympic gold as more important than attending the opening ceremony. Also, the opening ceremony stadium is not located near the athletes village, so a long journey there and back coupled with lots of waiting around and competition over the next couple of days is a reasonable excuse for not attending. I expect that lots of athletes from many nations will skip the opening ceremony on Friday.

I am proud that there are no financial incentives for Team GB. But to think winning an Olympic gold doesn't bring economic reward for British athletes is foolish! A good Olympic performance will garuntee generous funding for an athlete for the next Olympic cycles, plus widespread media coverage and potential sponsorship is the second hand financial reward. Most Olympic medal winners also get some form of award, either MBE, OBE or CBE, some are even knighted (Sir Chris Hoy, Lord Coe, Sir Bradley Wiggins). So there are lots of rewards apart from a cash payout fir successful athletes.

However, if this appeal is successful the IOC will have effectively done nothing, so they may consider increasing the punishment to a ban -

After this report no Russian athletes should compete at the Rio Olympics, it is a disgrace what they have done to blatantly hide cheating athletes positive samples in order to show Russia as a sport superpower. If it was up to me Russia would not be allowed to compete at the next 3 Olympics until they majorly change their culture of doping -

Athletics Qualification for Summer Olympic Games 2016
uk12points replied to MantaRaymarc's topic in Athletics
Does a qualifying marathon time have to be run on an IAAF certified marathon course? -
Rugby has more than enough money in the UK to fund itself, the sad thing is that many sports in the UK like Table Tennis, Volleyball, wrestling, handball, water polo, synchronised swimming and basketball get no funding, so future growth in these sports is more difficult. A lot of money is invested in sport and the government has committed to increasing sport funding by over 20% in the road to Tokyo 2020. Hopefully this money can bring with it success this summer, otherwise lots of sports can expect their budgets to be slashed significantly.
