  1. Hello everyone! Rio 2016 is coming to an end and I would like to make an announcement before some users will enter into the "detoxification mode" of sports after the Olympic Games and will disappear for some months (hopefully not too much!) After the new start in March, as you know Totallympics has changed because from March on Totallympics has only been a discussion forum and not a results collection website anymore. I had to quickly restart the forum to avoid the community to die, we have lost some users, found some others, but in general I think it was a positive new start. As many of you know, I have started Totallympics in 2011 and I have had a motivation lackness in the past 12 months. Also thanks to some improvements in my professional life, I have now found some new motivations and I have already planned the new Olympic Quadriennium which will start tomorrow and will go until Tokyo 2020. What Totallympics offered until February and has totally missed after the new start is the results collection, something I would like to start again. My idea is to separate the discussion forum from the results collection part of Totallympics. And I think the best way is to keep this forum's software (IP Board) for the discussion forum (very expensive but very user friendly) and to use Discuz (the old forum's software, which is free) again for the results collection part. We would not use the Discuz part as a discussion forum, but the good thing is that Discuz is free and all Totallympics contributors already know how to use it to post results. As you may have noticed trying to post results here on IP Board, this software is very good for discussion but very bad for tables and complex formats in general. To post results in tables like we were doing on Discuz here on IP Board is not even impossible and to work with tables in general very time consuming. Also, I have tried some websites platforms in the past months but none of them are as good as Discuz for the tables and the formats we were already used to use until few months ago. So to make a summary my idea is: IP Board (Totallympics as it is now) for Discussion Discuz (Totallympics as it was from 2011 to February 2016) for Results I think this solution would make everyone happy: those who were interested to post/be informed about results and those who are just interested in the discussion. Hopefully most of you will be interested in both of the things On the Discuz forum we will have a limited number of users, because only the contributors will register, and only results will be posted. No general messages, no questions about results or olympic qualifications, no mistakes reports, everything which does not contain results will be posted on the IP Board forum. We will have some "rules" about which events to follow, I mean that everything will be standardized as it was before, to avoid someone registering and starting to post random results of minor sports competitions. Of course we will as always focus on Olympic Qualifications and hopefully we will be able to follow the biggest number possible of international competitions of both Winter and Summer Sports. All the discussions will still be here, and hopefully more and more users from each Nation will join the discussion to follow sport events with us everyday. One of the most important thing here will be to make all National Threads more and more populated so that each Nation will have at least 2 or more users who can discuss in their own national language in their National Thread. Another difference, a positive one I think because many of you complained about this, is that in the Discuz Threads we will not post "daily" results in the threads anymore, because there will be no discussion in the threads. So we will just have to update the post with results without posting "Day 1 Results", "Medal Count after Day 3" and so on anymore. We still have to decide together with admins some things, but this is the general idea. I think this is the best thing because people who wants to discuss can do it without comments being interrupted by very long results/medal count posts, people who want results will be able to use Totallympics as a source again as it happened before, and people who want to do both things will be able to do both things My main concern, right now, is who will take care of the Events of the Week Thread, because it is very time consuming and it requires a great general sports events knowledge and to be always aware of which sport events have started or will start soon. As you know, KSR was taking care of that since Totallympics launch, but I have not been able to contact him after February 2016. Hopefully he will come back one day, but I can't say when, so we need someone who will take care of that. I hope I will be able to contribute on this project as much as I can but I do not want to be in a position for which the whole Totallympics depends on me, therefore I prefer to help as much as I can, but not to let any thread or project depends exclusively on me. Another important thing is to easily and quickly link from one forum to the other one so that users can easily pass from reading results to comment and the opposite. For example, we could add a link in the first post of each thread to redirect users to the results/discussion thread in the other forum. As I said, this "split" will allow users to only use the results or the discussion part, but hopefully most of you will be interested and will take part in both of them. If you have any question or suggestion feel free to ask/propose because in the next days I don't think we will have many sport events to follow So we have time to think about the new quadriennium. In few hours Rio 2016 will be finished but Totallympics' strenght has always been to be alive for 365 days per year and our Olympic Games don't last 16 days but 4 years, so from tomorrow on our focus will be on Tokyo 2020, with of course Pyeongchang 2018 and all other daily sport events in between And I hope you will all be with us and more and more users from yours and from other nations will join us during the journey!

I agree that normal discussions should go ahead even if users disagree on certain themes, but there is always a border which if you go beyond it someone should take actions to avoid Totallympics to become a gladiator's arena instead of a forum As heywoodu has already explained. I agree and that is the reason why during Rio 2016 some other actions will be taken if necessary, like the 24 hours ban for users who will not be able to control their negative emotions. Anyway as I have always thought, I think there are many situations when deleting the post(s) is enough to avoid the discussion to degenerate and no further actions are needed.
  8. Hi everyone, just two weeks left before Rio 2016, the event we all were waiting for when working/surfing on Totallympics in the past years. I guess about 90% of today’s Totallympics community already knew Totallympics before February 2016, when as you know the “old” Totallympics (March 2011-February 2016) died and the “new” Totallympics has borne in March 2016. Some other users probably has discovered Totallympics after the February 2016 event and so they know Totallympics only as it is now. As many of you know, after many years of hard work I had totally lost my motivations some months ago and a forum’s database huge problem was the peak of it, and I have decided to start everything again from scratch, starting a new forum with a new software and a new webmaster, with 0 posts on the forum but a community already formed. I will have to decide what to do in my personal and professional life in the next months and I still have too many variables to guarantee you I will try to make out of Totallympics a results database as it was before (which I would like to do starting from September 2016, but I am not sure I will be able to realize it), but I am glad I have decided to start Totallympics again and did not let the community to die and spread Totallympics’ users around national forums/forums focused only on one sport/social networks. The next 4 weeks will be the most important for Totallympics, even if as you know the best thing of Totallympics has always been to live for 4 years and not only for the 16 Olympic days. I will not be able to focus 20 hours per day on Totallympics like I did for London 2012, therefore I am asking some little help to all Totallympics users who like the community and will follow the Olympic Games on the forum and would like Totallympics to keep growing day after day. You all have various ways to help the forum and I will list some of them here. Of course you will decide if and in which way to help, those are just some suggestions. 1) If you are a”silent reader”, register on Totallympics and take part in the disussion. There are a lot of visitors who reads Totallympics, maybe even everyday, but who are not registered on the forum. Don’t be shy! Register and join the discussion during the Olympic Games! 2) Respect Totallympics’ Rules. It is very important to keep the community a peaceful place even during the “hottest” Olympic days, when every user will have happy and sad moments according to his/her nation’s performance in Rio. If you feel you are too nervous please try to limit yourself and wait some minutes/hours to connect/post on the forum to avoid fights around the forum. 3) Use the Report button instead of replying to the provocations. If you read a post you think should be deleted or edited, please report it to the moderators instead of replying and make the fight bigger. Moderators will then decide whether to edit/delete the post or not and whether to give some “punishments” to the involved users. Admins have already been authorized to give 24 or more hours post-prevention punishment when they feel it is necessary to calm down someone, which means you will still be able to read the forum but not to post anything for 24 or more hours, so please behave! 4) Try to make your nation’s National Thread active. National Threads are important to attract more users from your Nation on the forum and discuss in the National Thread also in your own national language. It is not easy to make a National Thread active if you are the only user from your Nation on Totallympics but sometimes you just need a “flash” to start and more users will then join to discuss in the thread. Using your nation’s language is also important because it allows users who don’t speak English language at all to take part in Totallympics too. So even if you are alone or just 2 users from your Nation, try to write in the National Thread with the hope more users from your Nation will join the discussion. Take India and Serbia National Threads as examples to follow, those two are the most active National Threads since years and more users have joined Totallympics to be able to take part in the National Thread. 5) Try to spread Totallympics around your Nation’s sports communities. Of course you know better than anyone else the forums/social networks pages where your nation’s sport fans gather to discuss about Olympic Games. If you want to make your Nation’s community bigger on Totallympics, you can invite those interested to join and make the community bigger and more represented, both in the National Thread, in Prediction Contests and around the forum. 6) Take part in Rio 2016 Prediction Contests. More participants could attract more users to take part. And a link to Totallympics Prediction Contests in your national forums/social networks communities could also be a good way to find more interested users to join Totallympics and its Prediction Contests. 7) If you still don’t have one, set an avatar. It is pretty bad for the instant view of the home page and inside a thread to see many users with the same avatar (the default one, a no-face man :d). Setting an avatar is free and very quick, so please unless you like the no-face default avatar, choose a picture and set it as your avatar (your national flag will also work!). Please note that some months ago the maximum size of avatars has been increased, so if you set your avatar long time ago it could be in a very low quality, you can now upload it in a better quality.   9. I have disabled the negative rank to avoid users getting targeted by other users who don't stand them just to see them having a bad reputation. If a post is seen as aggressive users could report it, if they just don't agree with the content I don't think is a good solution to add the negative rank.
  10. OFF TOPIC: The medals are automatically given according to the reputation ranking, it is one of the feature of this forum's sofware, here you can see the default rankgs (I can change the number as I want, but as of today I have never changed them )
  11. I have not had any problem. Are you still facing the problem today ? EDIT: I just made a software update, hopefully it is fixed now and the problem was because of the missing update.
  12. Oh yes, I just checked Rio 2016 section and even there I found 3 threads with this mistake, but I can't believe I did the same mistake also in all Olympic threads. Anyway, I will start to fix them soon, thanks for reporting

Nations will be ranked only according to "Total" medals, men's, women's and mixed medals will not influence the rankng, it's just to have one more information and to check if the sum of the medals is correct.   18. You can predict just one team sport, all of them or as many as you wish, the choice is yours. You can post your predictions as a normal comment or using the template you can find in post #2. If you are using the template, copy and paste the table(s) for the sport(s) you want to add your predictions for. Now you have two ways to add a flag in the each cell: 1) you can add the three letter IOC country code (AUS for Australia, GER for Germany, USA for United States etc.) and when you will save the post the flags will appear; 2) you can select the flag you want from the emoticons list in each cell. These predictions are just for fun, no ranking will be kept.   19. Do someone know the "Torneo dell'Avvenire", an Under 16 important tournament played in Milan ? I am doing the assistant referee in this tournament and I am liking this experience a lot, if someone wants to ask a question or an information to some players let me know Here are the draws I have watched at least some minutes of every of these matches (including qualification rounds) and had to take some decisions when players did not agree to some calls (women's matches are much more controversial than men's matches ) and I have got to know many players and their parents/coaches. Also I bring the balls, I officially homologate results to the tournament's referee and I make the drawing lots before the matches. I have been impressed in particular by the Argentinian boy Tomas Descarrega, he seems a beast, let's write this name somewhere
  20. Every Olympic Thread has been now opened. Thanks to everyone who gave their contribution, I have opened all threads using my admin powers from your accounts so that a standard format was kept. Users who own a thread can now keep the schedule updated when a more detailed schedule will be released in the next weeks, or anyway few days before the Olympics start when the Rio 2016 website will have a detailed schedule for each sport. You can also start using the Olympic Threads for the discussion, predictions and news related to the Olympic Games about each sport, instead of the general discussion thread. You can continue using the Olympic Qualification Threads for the qualification related events.

  23. Sorry I see this only now. I have added some buttons from smart phone toolbar, including the buttons for tables. Of course working on tables from the smart phone will not be so easy, but now you can do it.
