I cannot find any confirmation by this or countries eligible to fight in each zone.

Unless things have recently changed the groupings for each zone is as follows.

    East Asia

    :CHN:TPE:HKG:JPN:KOR:PRK:MGL

    Southeast Asia

    :BRU:CAM:INA:LAO:MAS:MYA:PHI:SGP:THA:VIE

    South Asia

    :BAN:BHU:IND:MDV:NEP:PAK:SRI

    West Asia

    :BRN:IRQ:JOR:KUW:LBN:OMA:PLE:QAT:KSA:SYR:YEM:UAE

    Middle Asia

    :AFG:IRI:KAZ:KGZ:TJK:TKM:UZB

Nations already qualified to the team event are not eligible for singles quotas. That means the women's East Asia quota is literally between North Korea and Mongolia while the men adds Hong Kong to the mix. Additionally, Thailand's women cannot compete nor can India in either gender.

Would be interesting to have a ranking of nations with the most athletes under the A standard. I was quite surprised to see that Japan has clearly more athletes under the A standard than GB.

Yeah, despite not completely translating into medals, Japan has quite a bit of depth in swimming. I wouldn't be surprised if they are a clear third behind the United States and Australia in such a list.

Not really as the group would've had more time to gel as a team compared to :GUI as they'd have played an entire 3 week tournament together. Also a week's rest is a long time in football.

It's a double edge sword. Sure they may get time together and a week rest, but that's after playing six games in 15-17 days with the top players being fully involved in at least the final three games, plus there's a risk of injuries during that time.

:CAN 2024 Canadian Swimming Open - Toronto (CAN) :CAN

    April 10th - April 13th 2024

    Meet Results

The following new OQTs were achieved

    Men's 50m Freestyle

    :CRO Jere Hribar

    Women's 100m Backstroke

    :CAN Maggie Mac Neil

    :CAN Summer McIntosh

    Women's 100m Butterfly

    :CAN Summer McIntosh

I believe that makes 9/14 individual events McIntosh has reached the OQT in.

She could easily make the 1500m freestyle if she ever decides to compete in it, but I doubt she will. She's more realistically to get the 100m freestyle or maybe 200m breaststroke if she decides she wants to practice those strokes again.

just asking myself why in this competition are there people that already achieved the qualification (and therefore can't get any other quota place) and/or why tare there those mixed team events that don't award any quota place?

nor those events award points for the OQR/WR, therefore are absolutely useless for those who are not in the hunt for a quota place and actually only make a lot of confusion

I was confused too. I swear I remember reading in the qualification document that the event was only open to non-qualified and eligible athletes, but reading it again it wasn't there.

    Maybe I misremembered

And this one is a gripe which can be applied to other sports as well. The Individual neutral Athletes are baisically a team, no matter how hard people try to spin it in neutrality. They even have their own flag, so surely these limits on athletes participation should apply to them, but they don’t.

I see them as two teams competing under the same name. It's no different than if multiple suspended nations competed under the Olympic flag.
