Shooting Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Recommended Posts

So Bhaker is a double starter in pistol allowing one quota to be transferred to the 50m rifle.

Just wondering why Moudgil is in the mixed rifle event, does Chandela not want to participate?

Chandela is the not even top 4 shooter in India in 10m air rifle. Elavenil and Anjum are 1 and 2 so it's ridiculous that Apurvi got the spot ahead of her based on 2019 performance.  They compensated by giving Anjum air rifle mixed.

Not happy with the selection of Indian team. Apurvi is not in form clearly and so is Deepak Kumar. At least Anjum is there in mixed rifle 10m along with 503p but she concentrated so much on 10m that I don't know what to expect in 503p.

Moreover Deepak underwent some surgery I don't know why the current form should not have been taken into account.

Maybe Chinki was better than Manu for 25m. And Arjun/Aishwarya IN 10 m air rifle men.

Definitely not happy with the squad.

Personally speaking, I am happy with the squad. This was my pick before Covid. Anjum in Mixed team while Apurvi in Individual is a bit of compromise that was done, due to the fact that we had so many good shooters. Plus to accommodate Anjum in 50x3, we needed Manu to start two events. And Manu is the only one who can be expected to shoot 590+ in 25m Pistol. So, it was basically between Rahi and Chinki. Rahi’s experience won. Regarding Men’s Air Rifle, Deepak has been consistent for quite some time. Even in Delhi WC, he was not bad.

Basically, if you want to dislodge the quota holder, you have to be consistently be better than quota winner. All tie-breaks go in favour of quota winner. Only Elavenil could achieve that domination.

Again current form isn't good but still she can recover I guess.

There is still time for Olympics. She had some equipment issues which will be sorted by the time of Olympics. If her form doesn’t improve closer yo Olympics, then she can be replaced by reserve shooter then. She has shown that she has the temperament to be among the top shooters.

Is the change possible like that? Like 1 month before the Olympics

Because it says reserve shooters only if shooter gets covid or shooter doesn't participate for any reason. They didn't say if the form dips they can be replaced. If that was the rule then all 15 are at risk to qualify right

Bhai not everything has to be written/said. Apurvi and her coaches are aware of the problem (loss of weight leading to ill-fitting gear) which has led to her dip in form. They are working on it. If she is not able to solve the problem and/or the solution doesn't lead to better scores, then federation has many levers to ensure that Apurvi herself withdraws in favour of reserve shooter.  But, as of now, federation is backing Apurvi to regain the form. All our past shooting legends have time and again reiterated that one can't equate the scores in trials with that in WC or Olympics. Abhinav wasn't even shooting regularly in run up to Rio but we all knew he was a medal hopeful because of his experience. Apurvi was at top in 2019. So, backing her is not a wrong decision.

Basically, we can make a case for Apurvi, Anjum and Elavenil all three. No matter which two were chosen, someone would have missed out. Same in 25m Pistol. In Air Rifle Men, Divyansh was sure selection but behind him Sandeep, Babuta, Aishwary were good in recent trials but were way behind Deepak in 2019.

    • now the shooting sport takes a little Christmas break and the new season resumes in January with the Asian Championships for the Shotgun specialists ( Doha, Jan. 11th through 22nd)   the World Cup will be back in late March, beginning in  Tangiers (March 25th through April 3rd, Shotgun specialists only)   the Rifle and Pistol specialists will start their new season with the European 10m Championships in  Yerevan (Feb. 27th through March 5th) and the 1st World Cup stage for them will be in  Granada in April (5th through 13th)   300m, 25m and 50m European Champs will be in  Osijek (May 30th through June 21st), meanwhile the Shotgun European Champs will be held in  Athens from Sept. 27th through Oct. 13th

    • so, the 2025 season is officially over, after the World Cup Finals have been completed with the Shotgun events, where (once again!!!) a new format for the final stage of each event has been experimented for the first time (before it becomes a regular feature in the next season)   the new format enlarge the starting field in each event's final stage to 8 shooters and dramatically shortens the number of target shots to decide the placings   the only characteristic remaining is the progressive eliminations principle   now, as written above, 8 shooters make the final, where after only 12 targets the eliminations start: by then, the last 2 shooters must leave the competition (7th and 8th ranked)   after 12 more targets (24 in total), 2 more shooters have to leave the final (5th and 6th ranked)   then, the crazy carousel starts: every 4 targets we have a new elimination  so, after 28 targets, the 4th ranked shooter is done; after 32 targets the bronze medallist is known and after only 36 targets (provided there's no need for a shoot-off), compared to the previous 60, the gold and silver medallists are crowned   I guess the tiktok people with the attention span of a chinchilla have won once again
