Men's Football CONMEBOL South American Copa América 2021

this will be the last attempt by conmebol to see Messi retire with a title for the national team :p

Just kidding but is ridiculous to have the fourth Copa America in six years

Agreed, but why is this though? Having it the year after the WC seemed perfectly fine for me. This years edition is pointless, not only, because of the COVID situation, but because the football seasons are so condensed now and we already had a Coppa in 2019. The players can't catch a break.

They wanted to synchronize with the euro so the next edition was going to be in 2024. But 5 years without the tournament is apparently too hard for the finances of the national federations so they decided to hold one in 2020.

They can't cancel because the tv contracts are signed and, again, the federations need the money.

Understandable about the financial part, but why do they want it to be with the Euro? You would think they'd like to be between the WC and Euro, so all the fan attention is on them. That was certainly the case here, with fans staying up during the nights to watch Coppa matches, when it was the only tournament in the summer. Now everyone is preparing and talking for the Euro.
