Did we ever figure out whether a DNS counts as participating? Mauritius made that issue moot in the African qualifier by getting a DNF.

If not then the women's K1 quota won't be awarded here.

Mauritius DNS'd in the heats, but DNF'd in the final, so it counted.

Therefore TPE has to start tomorrow.

First results are in... And this must be the easiest course in history!

70 seconds long (MK1), and not a single of these low-level athletes missed a gate. I am starting to wonder if there were any upstream gates. And whether this is a flat-water slalom.

Yes, there were upstream gates. Yes, there was whitewater. I think the course set was just pretty straightforward and not too difficult.

The event is being livestreamed to Facebook if you want to check it out. Just look up the Planet Canoe FB page and there’s a link to the livestream there.

The heats are qualifying races for the semifinals. so a DNS in the heats automatically disqualify you from starting in the SF

Well, tell that to the organizers in La Seu d'Urgell. Mauritius started in the semifinals after not starting in the heats.

Anyways, ICF seems to be pretty lenient with their own rules, so I'm pretty sure they will award the WK1 place tomorrow, since there were technically three nations on the entry list.

Remember, there was a case where New Zealand earned a quota for WC1 200 m, even though there were technically only two eligible nations entered for that race (Australia qualified in the WC2 500 m earlier on).

You meant in the W K1. This was just a mistake/typo, she DNS in the semifinal. They just for some reason copy/pasted her DNF result from heats.

Here is her eventual semifinal race screenshot, you can see that she did not compete in any gate

Well, she still appeared on the start list for semfinals after not starting in the heats. Initially she had DNS next to her name in the heats, they must have changed it later. Either way, she is not listed to have completed any gate during heats either.

More importantly, the ICF counted Mauritius as one of the min 3 nations, which allowed Morocco to qualify.

Yeah, if there not enough starters in the heats/qualifiers (in this case top30), everybody is assured to qualify for the semifinals, you just have to start in at least one of the heats, you even do not have to finish any of them, just start and pass at least 1 gate to be eligible to start in the semis in this case.

Maybe this was the fishy purpose here, to qualify an athlete with writing her a DNF instead of DNS :d

Nice live stream and all... But the results are nowhere to be found!

Anyways, :TPE did start today in the women's K1 final, so there you go...

Maybe it is the reason why the live score is not updating or working anymore today :d

    • North American rugby quotas ( and qualified automatically)    M: and W: and
    • I remember Caroline Golubitsky. She competed with Vezzali for a while but not for long. Rita Konig, whom Vezzali defeated in the final of the Olympic Games in 2000, was more famous, as well as Sabine Bau and Anja Mueller. From what I remember, the Germans competed fiercely with us at some point, but they almost always lost.
    • Shemyakina won a bronze medal in 2014 Worlds and was one of our leader but leave the squad due to pregnancy (she has 2 daughters if I'm not mistaking, so she chose family instead of sport). And speaking of foil we have back in the day Sergiy Golubitskyi, who was Olympic silver medalist and won some medals in other competitions and coached his wife Caroline Golubitskyi - one of the German foil specialists. Even in women's foil we had medal in Women's foil at the European championship - it was Olha Leleiko, our current national coach. So no, we are pretty good fencing country, and depending on generations of our athletes some events are more "profitable" for us and some don't.
    • Shemyakina that was a very strange story. She unexpectedly won the games but before and after she literally achieved nothing. After that success in 2012 she also completely disappeared. It's only in epee that such strange situations. That's why I've always preferred foil and sabre, because the top was more stable there, although that's changing now. The competition has grown a lot all over the world.
