And the next snowboard star, reigning halfpipe champion Iouri Podladtchikov is out after his fall in the X-Games. He says he's recovering alright, but starting now would bring the risk to never stand up anymore if he falls on his head again..

Sad, but sensible choice it seems.

Seems logic for him to miss Olympics, We are not lucky in two days we lost Meillard and Podladtchikov

Would have been very hard for him to win a medal anyway. Switzerland is the best european country in snowboarding halfpipe with an amazing depth (Burgener, Haller, Hablützel), but the fact that it will still be very hard to medal shows how competitive this sport is. Unlike Germany, Switzerland doesn't concentrate on sports where it is easy to win medals (luge, bob, nordic combined) and i clearly prefer that. I would say a medal in snowboarding halfpipe is at least as valuable as 3 or 4 medals in sports like luge or bob. A couple of years back i thought that Hablützel would become a serious gold medal contender, but sadly it didn't quite work out ...

Meillard will for sure be totally destroyed, but she will have at least 3 more olympics if she stays healthy, i think she would have been the 5th favorite for a medal behind Shiffrin, Holdener, Vlhova and Hansdotter. Let's hope that at least Holdener will win a medal (i predicted silver for her).

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.
