Any other events this week??

seems to be a very slow week after the fairly hectic first week ...... I guess the next major event would be the women's world boxing championships in the 2-3 week of may ......

I will put that in Non Rio Events since our main recurve archers are not there

Meanwhile I will add Seoul Challenger too where Paes is playing to improve his rankings

Maybe they are trying to see if Rimil can be replaced by someone talented or at least have a 2nd choice.

More likely they may be in intensive training for Rio so as to peak there and do not want any break.......  there is not much chance after the reason level of form shown by the womens recurve team that they may change any member ( but yes if injury or any thing happens good to have a back up

Baku world cup update in Judo

Avtar Singh ( 90- category )  faced a really tough opponent Clerget axel of france in round 1  and lost but  a reasonably close fight 0 vs 1-0-1 so not too bad ...clerget was the bronze medalist .......highest ranked indians Kalpana -52 kg ( 95th ) and Avtar -90kg  ( 81st ) ...likely Indian to be sent to the olympics would still be Avtar

In Tennis, any chance of a singles player sneeking in too, or somehow can we have 2 men's doubles teams?

For singles, Yuki would need a large number of withdrawals and/or good performance at French Open to rise 50 odd places to qualify. Not sure about Wild cards.

To be honest, I think Paes/Bopanna are on the edge of qualification themselves. Hopefully, Bopanna would improve his ranking and enter top 10 to win the quota directly. No chance for second pair in MD

2 men's double team is almost impossible. However presently even our top ranked men double player Rohan is also out of direct entry criteria as his ATP ranking is 11. He have to do well in French Open. Paes ranking also is very down. To get two teams in rio, we need atleast either two players in top 10 of ATP ranking or their combine ATP ranking should be higher enough to get additional quota.

no wild cards this time around........................ unfortunately for India as we seem to have had a good relationship with ATP  and have got wild cards many times

Don't think Rimil is a lock for Rio by any means...unless the federation simply decides that whoever won the quota will be the ones going, like they did in 2012 (the quota was won last year by Deepika, Rimil and Laxmirani)

In the Colombia world cup, 4 archers competed for India - Deepika, Bombayala, Laxmirani Majhi and Rimil. Rimil had the lowest qualification score out of the 4 and thus the other 3 competed in the team event and won Silver. So Rimil was not part of that silver-winning team...I think eventually it will be 3 of these 4 going to Rio but either Rimil or Bombayala can miss out (Deepika is obviously a lock and Majhi has been doing very well in the past year).

    • Aaaand the aforementioned  Gaia Brunello has put down a 36th place in Arber today, 2:35 minutes behind the winner, resulting in 116 IBU points. For World Cup qualification one needs an average of under 150 at the end of a trimester...or one result of under 125 in the current or previous trimester, so if I'm not mistaken, she has immediately qualified for next week's World Cup!   Great start. We are definitely hoping she stays in biathlon only and this start helps
    • This is the most incompatible with my sleeping schedule tennis event ever but I will still watch it.  I've seen a few qualifying games but time to step up my tennis watching with the main draw.
    • Discovery plus is my favourite way to stream sports aside from official streams on YouTube so I'm more than happy with this.
    • Chanatip Sonkham, who won bronze in taekwondo at the 2012 Olympics, will be competing for Thailand in the mixed doubles curling event.
    • Lots of viewing options happily.   Easy option if you have it - everything is on Discovery Plus   Free To Air option - They have lots of their own free streaming on FISU.TV.   Go to FISU.TV on your browser Create a username/password Once that is done, you can stream from your PC Or you can download the app on all services - Ipad, Android, Amazon, Roku Enjoy!
    • Draws are now out: https://ausopen.com/draws   As usual, some intriguing first round matchups.   ‪Osaka/Garcia and Gauff/Kenin are the main ones that stand out on the women’s side, while for the men it’s Hurkacz/Griekspoor, Dimitrov/Fognini and Monfils/Mpetshi Perricard, but there’s so many quality matchups that it’s tough to only pick a couple. I’m interested to see who Fonseca draws as a Q, that’ll be a matchup players want to avoid.

    • Parallel Slalom WC Davos | Davos, Switzerland   Men Gold-  Arvid Auner  Silver-  Dario Caviezel Bronze-  Fabian Obmann   Women Gold-  Miki Tsubaki Silver-  Michelle Dekker Bronze-  Flurina Neva Baetschi   Tsubaki on a tear to start the season with 6, yes 6, podiums in her first 7 races (and she was 4th in the non-podium one)    Flurina Neva Baetschi also with her first career WC podium in front of her home crowd! What a time to do it!   Full Results
    • Big Air WC Klagenfurt | Klagenfurt, Austria   Women Gold-  Luca Harrington (182.60) Silver-  Timothe Sivignon (180.40) Bronze-  Matej Svancer (175.40)   Women Gold-  Liu Mengting (170.60) Gold-  Flora Tabanelli (170.20) Bronze-  Muriel Mohr (166.20)   Interesting to see how quickly Mohr and Tabanelli are progressing through to the senior ranks, they’ve now been on a couple of podiums so far this season.    Full Results   Side note: Sorry guys for the lack of updates, this has been a really busy time of my life and I didn’t have time to be updating stuff on Totallympics. Since there’s a lot for me to catch up on, I’ll probably do it all over the next couple of days.
